For the first time in my life I actually want to stop. Ive always enjoyed smoking, infact ive loved it. I stopped for dd when preggers but I didnt actually want to and spent the whole pregnancy thinking about cigarettes. I feel that ive always been defined as being a smoker. Im good I dont smoke infront of dd or in the house but im squeezing more and more cigs into the opportunities ive got and am now on over a packet a day. They are so cheap here that I havent even got financial pressure to stop. I am starting to feel unhelathy. Ok, Ive done the Hello, i'm lucy and I am a smoker bit. Now what I need is some good advice, tips for what you did. Thanks!

fionagib · 16/09/2005 11:18

Hi lucy, brilliant decision - are you planning to go cold turkey or use a subsitute? Like you I used to puff away secretly, was always looking for an opportunity to sneak off for a fag away from the kids, and smoked a pack a day.

have been using nicotine lozenges, started on 2mg ones, am now on 1mg (and am hooked, unfortunately, tho I still think that's better than smoking...) Charliecat used lozzies too, in the early days of quitting, isn't that right cc?

btw cc my ds has v swollen lip & needed 3 stitches (he was at A&E for 3 hours last night) but is okay today, v pleased with ps2 game that arrived this morning (ebay purchase) and glad to be missing school!

Hi lucy5 of Bradford who has visited Harden and Plumstead!
I gave up with lozzenges too-have been over 6 months now-still have my bad days when I really want to smoke,(today!),but have only had about three fags in 6 months down from 7-10 a day.
Give it a go eh?

dropinthe · 16/09/2005 12:27

Hope I got the right Lucy there!

How are you both CC and MLL?

Have once again today come within a whisker of smoking-found some in the car and serously contemplated it but haven't and won't!

lucy5 · 16/09/2005 12:43

Drop im thinking of changing my name there are quite a few lucys on here now. Serves me right for being unoriginal. Spains great, starting to cool down, im pleased life can go back to normal.

I think giving up smoking here is going to be difficult. Everyone smokes everywhere, banktellers etc. Cigs are cheap and dh works in Gibraltar where 20 malboro lights are 75p. im going to look into patches etc.

dropinthe · 16/09/2005 13:34

I can imagine it would be hard when so cheap but effects are the same wherever you smoke,eh?

lucy5 · 16/09/2005 13:36

yes thats true but i need lots of incentive, as i say i love smoking but i know im smoking to much and am starting to worry about my health.

charliecat · 16/09/2005 13:37

go over to whyquit.com do some reading. It really isnt about the cost.

OP posts:
lucy5 · 16/09/2005 13:42

No its not about the cost. What i was trying to say was when I was in uk, if when I smoked in uk, i noticed it financially, here its nothing, also thefact that you can smoke absolutely anywhere puts me in a lot of vunerable posistions. I really need to find the most will power I have ever had. Its a big step for me to even contemplate giving up I have been smoking for 22 years and im only 34

lou33 · 16/09/2005 13:46

Nope i don't but thanks for the offer. Cat me if you have fags to get rid of though. Cheers, and good luck with quitting.

charliecat · 16/09/2005 13:47

Yep, get what you mean, but If your gonna stop its got to be everywhere and everyday. No point lying to you!
Welcome BTW...Hope you stick around
whyquit.com is the place to be reading so you get it in your head what your up against. Have you stopped before at all?
