Mouse, when ds first started going out he was late back the third time. I explained that I rely on him being here when we have agreed and that because he abused the privilege he would not be allowed out again for a week. He was hellish that week, but it's now two years down the line and he has never come back late since that first time.

I think it's worth warning dd that she is not to think of the time as an 'ish' but as a deadline, and if she abuses that then she will lose her new founded freedom. And then follow through - horrible but worthwhile.

Of course I'm dealing with a ds, so dds are quite alien

Morning ID, I must do some sorting through of old toys and clothes. I'm such a horder.

It is never ending. I swear it was only a couple of weeks ago I got rid of four enormous boxes of toys that the dcs never play with. And now there's no space again.

Do toys and clothes breed sneakily at the backs of cupboards? Or are they more like a loyal pet who gets lost, somehow finding their way home from the charity shop?

ID you could be describing my own relationship to the accumulated crap. I keep the pencils that are long enough, but throw the pens.

Oddly enough when I come across pen lids I worry that they have a match somewhere, and so keep them Meaning I then end up with assorted pen lids whose pens are long gone.

Occasionally I look at the lids and think "This is a waste of time" and chuck them all. Only to find a working pen without a lid the very next day.

I think there's a conspiracy going on.

And I have never bought the DCs any felt tips or colouring pencils

Crunchy - thanks. We had words last night. The whole, 'I need you to come back when we agree so I know you're safe. It's day one of the holidays, let's not fall out and you get grounded. Also, it gets darker at 9 and I think that's late enough given you are only 11' etc, etc, .......... watch this space.
