in case we forget and find ourselves at 1000 - here's a fresh new thread !

grrr about car KK (and how irritating about Cakes dh's car too)
Fruity walk sounds lovely SR - damson gin will be a lovely VChristmas treat
I love blue & white stripy tops - I have many -cannot resist them -dh points them out to me in shops!

Not sure about weekly; that summary might have to be more often..

Haggis, I love the sound of your party. I'm planning one for after chemo too, though mine's far less tastefully titled. Not sure if I've the energy, but seems important to mark somehow.

Cupcaked, am liking the running plans, though sounds like the wise women have spoken, so maybe you'll have to wait a while if you're to preserve your skin. I've determined to try and cycle a bit more - is that an option for you instead of running; far less bouncy!

Kurri, big grr for you re: car. Hope it's fixed soon. Cider sounds funny though, esp your DH squealing. Hope diet still holding, though isn't your thyroid still a factor??

MAS, you always intrigue me because you say you find things hard, but you face them in a way that I very much don't. Genuinely I find that so impressive. Your course sounds both sensible and good, and it must have been a relief to like the person you'll be working with. How's DS doing? Has he settled into term again yet.

SR, what is your DD's course then? I get the Sweden part, but what's she studying as a whole? I think I'm jealous, whatever it is. Great to hear your hotel was luxurious, though those steroids are annoying to interfere with sleep. Hope the last week of pills isn't too dire. Christmas sounds like a good time to aim for in terms of recovery. I'm thinking I might feel a bit more normal by then too. We'll have to virtually celebrate.

RWU, so v.sad about your friend. Not at all sure how you stay sane through it all, though good times with the children definitely sounds like the best route through. Must be hard some days to keep the energy going for them. You know if you did succumb to violence against neighbours, you could easily use the cancer card. I'm sure a Judge/ Jury would let you skip away.. [evil emoticon]

Cakes, hope the dusting worked. Sounds a bit hair shirtish for my liking. Surely a walk to a favourite cafe, with notebook and pen is a more tempting option?!

Here I'm still a bit chemo-fugged, but many thanks for all well wishes. DH back at work today, which means he's away for three day. I couldn't face my parents coming to 'help', so my and DS will stagger through. (They're lovely, but the inverted commas say it all, they really do.) Still, I gleefully strode to the school gates this morning wearing a new wooly hat. Am pretty sure I was the only one delighted Autumn's here. Have so had enough of the Lithuanian Peasant look though.. Grin

smee · 13/09/2010 13:09

Long, long post above, but meant to add to Purplefish, as it helped me to know that whatever chemo throws at you in terms of side effects, they do go. Most people have a bad first week/ 10 days, then until next one they're fine. Also, even within the bad times you can usually do most of what you normally do.

As the others have said, we're all so different. I haven't had the constipation, etc, but do get very sick. That's very unusual and unlucky, but even with that extreme and drugs not managing to stop it, it does pass every cycle. Am now just a week into a cycle and taking my son to school/ going to the park later, and posting all manner of nonsense on this thread, so life really is possible. Really hope she's okay with it all. It is scary though, bound to be.

If you let us know which drugs she's on, maybe we can help with more specific/ obvious effects. I'd bet between us we've been there.

Cakesandale · 13/09/2010 13:56

Hi smee - hat sounds fab.

I must say the hair does return pretty fast, and I am keeping mine super short - BC has at least taught me the freedom of a cut that is virtually hassle free. A quick shampoo and blast with the hair dryer whilst fluffing a bit, then a light dollop of wax, and it's really nice! If only I'd known before Grin

dusting made me feel a bit more virtuous, thanks. It had not been done for over a month, so it was really a case of that, or chronic asthma. Blush

Then dd and i went to the cinema to watch Marmaduke - great if you like dogs and fart gags, both of which get my vote.

sandripples · 13/09/2010 14:08

Hi Smee, glad your SEs are subsiding.

My DD is doing Medieval and Modern Languages. She's done 2 years of French and German, one year of Portuguese so far at uni and will do only German this coming year, including a lot of linguistics and history as she's got interested in that side rather than literature.

She had a year in Germany as part of this, and while there was allowed to studtever she wanted! Spo amongst other things she took up Swedish, Turkish and more Portuguese. This short Swedish course in Sweden is because the group of German students studying where she was, are all doing a short summer course to improve their Swedish in Sweden. It seemed a good opportunity but I am not a nit worried she#s trying to pack too much in and could get stressed as this happens occasionally for DD. She is so interested in all aspects of life that she v. rarely says no to anything! This can lead to her over-loading herself.

I too had had enough of the peasant look and just enjoy my fluffy head now. I'm so pleased that I've had no funny stares or comments from children innocently asking why I look funny! UK is pretty good I think about all sorts of looks now.

KK - sorry think we x-posted before. Sorry about your car - pesky things.

Waiting for man to come and review the shed situation and quote for levelling an area and putting new base now as old one seems to have crumbled away. Mayne he'd put the new shed up too......

Met someone I don't see often today while in village. She had BC 15 years ago and is doing fine. She came back for a sandwich - was nice.

smee · 13/09/2010 14:31

SR, see, I knew I'd be jealous. Grin Always good to hear about people like that woman you met.

Good to hear too (from both you and Cakes) that the fluffy, spiky look awaits me. Sounds like a liberation.

Cakes am partial to a bit of daft farting hound myself, so will make a note for me and DS.

Cakesandale · 13/09/2010 14:57

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2010 15:23

I think ds would like Marmaduke (we saw a giant one in the shopping centre at Basingstoke the other week)
He has just rung to say his singing lesson isn't until 3.30 today and I was going to go to the shops-will wait for him to get back then dash out..have been in all day-drew dogs until the Southern Electric man came to sign forms -he came into the house-was very nice but his aftershave has really lingered and makes me feel a bit sick ! Have made proper coffee but can still detect it !
Am sure those of you with spiky hair all look very chic but hooray for warmer headgear season.
I remember when we met up with lalaa for ds's birthday and her hair was just growing again - it was a bakingly hot day and I worried about her head getting burned but I think she was celebrating feeling able to just go out without covering.
SR - your dd's course sounds really interesting - and the chance to travel sounds so exciting..ds is desperate to go abroad.
Smee - thank you -I think I lost a lot of my mid twenties suffocated by ocd and I do regret it very much so I think it makes me try really hard to face up to things and try to sort them out- plus I also think it's an ocd symptom, the desire to put things in order.
Am hoping this course will just equip me to deal with life !
Ds seems fine at school so far- he got over his wobbly start back and sounded quite ok on the phone just now !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2010 18:34

btw -today is the date exactly of lalaa getting to the 5 year mark - hooray !!!!! no more injections or tablets...yay !

reallywoundup · 13/09/2010 18:54

this thread is moving very quickly these days , i must pop in on an am & pm basis i think.

Neighbours are of the truely awful scum of the earth type, she tried to 'report' me a month or so ago to the department for work and pensions because (and i quote from her drunken rant....) "you aint fucking disabled" she was refering i think to my blue badge Hmm, but infact i got a visit from someone who worked at the jobcentre 'to check out some details', the details they checked were Him: "do you claim any income support?" Me: "no,only child benefit and DLA under special rules.... Why?" Him: "ahh, that coresponds to our records, someone is claiming that you are not entitled to your income support" Me: "but i don't get any!" Him: "well WE know that don't we!" Me:" right, what happens now?" Him: "Do you want to claim any other benefits?" Me: "ummm...... No." Him: "great, i'll chalk this up to troublemakers then"

She is a fine example of the human race lol! Then again these were the neighbours that had the knife fight in the back garden one night Grin

She and her 'mate' attacked (in a quite amusingly pathetic way!) me via fb the other day- i just subtly pointed out that i didn't have a 'problem' with them as claimed...... i just had no wish to get to know them Grin then pointed out to nightmare neighbour that i was suprised to see her so friendly with the person who slashed all 4 of her tyres a few months back- all's gone a bit quiet and they haven't been seen together since Wink (btw there was a fight between the two of them around the time of the world cup and 'mate' announced to entire street that it had been her that did the tyres- so plenty of people who could confirm the confession Grin)

mwahahahahaha!

Still no house, builder now getting twitchy, he's fitting the kitchen and bathrooms before we move in, but with the delays he's accepting other jobs so may not be avaliable at short notice when we need him!

right i'm off to re-read and make notes because i'm totally lost as to where everyone is in their treatment!

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2010 19:24

dear God -they sound totally horrendous Shock - really, really hope you can move asap

OP posts:
smee · 13/09/2010 19:50

They sound scary to me rwu, though I like your attitude and evil cackle. Soon you'll never have to see them ever again and a big hip hip for that.

MAS if your course equips you for life, well I think we should all follow suit. Me especially. Very honest to even start such a process, let alone engage with it

And how brilliant to hear about lalaa. Two good stories in same day. Like that. Smile

reallywoundup · 13/09/2010 20:27

Scary!! Lol, they wished Grin they are all weeble-like and clad in football shirts! It brightens up my day to point and laugh from behind the net curtains!
We are snobs apparently..... Our children eat fruit and veg..... Oh and we don't try to kill each other!!! They are harmless, just a bit of an annoyance- bit like when you step in dog poo Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2010 21:11

am imagining weebles in football shirts Grin !

OP posts:
sandripples · 14/09/2010 10:23

No wonder you're moving RWU - neighbours sound a nightmare. What a cheek that comment about disability. Just shows their true nature. Hope the move will be very soon.

Just off for bone scan and interview at DWP who seem convinced I need a job. Have told them I've got one and will go back in November but they insist on giving me money. O well. I'm feeling a bit yukky today so I hope no-one comments about my level of ability or I might get ratty Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2010 11:36

good luck SR Smile Am struggling with a shar pei...

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2010 11:38

I've just noticed that this thread appears in the 'most active' discussion thing !

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 14/09/2010 12:39

Bloody hell RWU they don't sound harmless to me!

Thank God you are going.

Shar pei wrinkles must be hard to get right - and the funny ears. There's a gorgeous shar pei pup that goes to our school.....(well, I imagine it is collecting someone, rahter than attending Grin )

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2010 12:54

shar pei done -gah ! must eat something to restore me...

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 14/09/2010 13:04

The neighbours sound horrible RWU, fingers crossed for your move getting sorted as quickly as possible, and Angry for you about the blue badge troublemaking. You will be well shot of them.

Hope you are feeling a bit stronger today Smee, hooray for woolly hat weather Smile Don't overdo things with DH away.

Good luck with everything today SR, sorry you are feeling a bit yukky though. Did the man come about the shed in the end?

How's the report coming along Cakes? - Give your self a large reward when its doneGrin

Shar Peis must be difficult MAS, all those wrinkles, but they are very sweet(I wonder if they get all sorts of gubbins caught between their folds of skin though?)
Pleased to hear we made it to 'most active' - fame at lastGrin.

Poor DH had to cycle to work today (car not ready yet) and it was pouring down.

I'm vaguely trying to tidy the house, as DS and his flatmate are staying over on Thursday night (we're all going up to Sheffield on Friday to see Hamlet at the Crucible, staying the night at DD's house.) I've got loads of stuff to organise, DH and DD driving up tomorrow to take her belongings back - assuming car is fixed. Yet here I am nattering on the laptop Blush

Cakesandale · 14/09/2010 14:46

Report going v badly, I am way out of my depth it is properly grown up, all about health economies and stuff. Gulp - but thanks for asking Grin

On the plus side a case of wine arrived today. I am not drinking owing to the flipping diet but it is still a cheerful sight.

I think shar pei's do get all sorts of skin problems - yuk, yuk, yuk.

Glad you have some family fun stuff to look forward to `kk - breaks up the tedium of autumn wonderfully. I know it is meant to be a nice mellow time but I hate the sight of everything rotting and also all the bloody spiders!!!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2010 14:54

am feeling v sleepy- haven't been out or anything today, just drawing and frequent trips to the computer of course...had a v strong cup of coffee and carried on with various dogs.
Sorry to hear that the report isn't going so well Cakes Sad - am sure you'll manage it though...I love it when our wine rack is filled up - makes me feel less impoverished.
KK - hope dh not too soaked and that you get house sorted Grin

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 14/09/2010 15:49

Grr - car is not going to be ready because they ordered the wrong part ShockBiscuit

So not sure what we are going to do tomorrow, to get DD back.

Don't panic about the report Cakes, I'm sure you will be fine once you get into it.

Don't think DH got too soaked (he had a spare shirt with him anyway) but he is going to be spitting feathers when he finds out the garage has cocked up.

Cakesandale · 14/09/2010 15:59

ooh dear, another car cock up Sad (especially for poor cycling dh)

Can they be leant on to provide a courtesy car, as it is their fault and all?

I thnk the tiredness is autumn doing its dreaded work, MAS, I expect to go into hibernation fairly shortly

reallywoundup · 14/09/2010 17:23

Kk- ooops! Agree with the courtesy car suggestion. My mechanic lent me his wifes car once when he stuffed up (same model as mine, he didn't ask her first mind- maybe he thought he get less grief of her than he would off me Grin)

Cakes- I've already started hibernation!

No chemo today, had a half dose yesterday as my bloods were iffy, but worse today...... We think petunia may be poorly, the biopatch was a bit icky!
