RWEU ?

Cakesandale · 19/07/2010 13:49

Yay, love agricultural shows. Hope it's great RWU.

And well done smee on the good blood results. Best to keep it going now the finish line is in sight.

sandripples · 19/07/2010 17:19

Smee - when are you due to finish chemo again?

I keep admiring my thin little centimetre of hair - because 'I'm worth it'

My DS doesn't mind be going hat-less for a walk with him now - thi is not due to any abundance of hair but simply he's got used to it - good sign I reckon.

Cakesandale · 19/07/2010 18:10

I am so glad you have some hair coming back SR - it'll come back in quite fast.

smee · 19/07/2010 19:46

SR that's fantastic about your hair. Am sure Cakes is right and it'll be back at pre-chemo length before you know it. Hope the next four days fly by, then you bounce back fast in time for your holiday.

I finish chemo 23rd September (assuming no more hold ups). Aren't you September too? I've got Rads ahead, but from what you've all said, at least that's a lesser degree of yuk. Strange way to look at it, but still.

rwu, being a city girl have never been to an agricultural show - what do they have at them then? Is it all cows and sheep? [ignorant emoticon!] Hope you have a fun day.

Cupcaked, I've been a bit tied up with work today, but will find out about Harrods woman tomorrow for you.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/07/2010 21:00

hooray for hair SR
We have agricultural; shows here -lots of cows and sheep and bits of farmyard machinery, sheep dogs, show jumping, heavy horses, birds of prey, alpacas, people weaving willows and usually lovely things like venison burgers and local cider - yum !

A good summary of agricultural shows there from MAS! Basically lots of pompous stuck up people in tweed deciding which gooseberry is the most perfect and which flower arrangement best reflects "an aspect of country living in the 20th century" and such like! But I'm interested in the new food hall, I may abandon the children outside and go and stuff my face with all the goodies on offer !

Nephew did really well in a few of his classes, a 5th in breed (limousin- so a popular class), also a 2nd in the cross breed beef class (I think??) he's got the young handlers class tomorrow which he is favorite for! He did have a bit of a disaster this morning though. Yesterday he bought a new leather halter at great expense (over £100) and it snapped and the cow escaped, thankfully it was his mist placid beast and she just ambles over to the crowd, had a look at them and decided that the grass looked tastier!

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2010 07:32

good luck to nephew and cow - how exciting !!

OP posts:
smee · 20/07/2010 09:42

Okay, so I like the sound of pretention plus goodies, but escaping cows.. see that would terrify me. I once got surrounded by a herd of bullocks, so climbed a tree. Farmer had to rescue me. Have a fantastic day though RWU. Hope the food hall lives up to expectations and Nephew wins his class.

Just found out that DS is not only getting a fantastic teacher next year but has been put with his two best friends. phew..

Cakesandale · 20/07/2010 09:44

Good luck indeed - am most envious.

Our best agricultural show around here (in Coventry? I hear you cry. No - but nearby) has brill things as well as all of the above. last year we had Jack Russell racing (the littler kids were allowed to join in) and a guy with a stuffed squirrel in a radio controlled car rounding up ducks. Not strictly traditional, but most entertaining. I am easily pleased

Cakesandale · 20/07/2010 09:45

Phew indeed smee - good for him.

I have a scary cow story for you - when I was 8 months pregnant with dd I got gored in the neck by a Highland Cow. God that hurt.

smee · 20/07/2010 10:21

Blimey cakes, how terrifying. What on earth did you do to upset it?!

Am liking the sounds of JR racing and stuffed squirrels herding ducks. Could definitely get into that.

Cakesandale · 20/07/2010 10:39

There is a flock of Highland cattle that roams loose through Plockton on the Kyle of Lochalsh. They were all milling about and a lot of people were wandering along a pathway, we were jsut amongst them really, but the cows had calves, and we had a dog. This one cow tried to charge our dog who was so old and doddery he didn't even notice. I decided to interpose my neck between dog and cow. I can't recommend it. I couldn't speak for about 2 days.

A woman there took me into her house and asked me to make a formal complaint because she thought the cows would kill someone one day. I didn't do it - the next summer a 75 year old man was indeed killed by a cow there.

sandripples · 20/07/2010 11:59

Crikey Cakes, terrible story! I am amazed you haven't mentioned this exciting though terrifying bit of history before!! I can't imagine much worse than that really. Did you go on a support thread for bullfighters and do you in fact speak Spanish?!

RWU - hope your nephew does well today and that you find lots of delicious stuff to stuff yourself with taste and savour.

Smee - yes I also finish chemo in September. Its strange how the rads continue to have an effect - I'm in 3rd week since I finished but I can see skin on nipple is still on the verge of breaking up (sorry if TMI)- really have to be careful for a long time afterwards. Energy better today despite not sleeping for about 3 hours (even my 'Xen approach' was wearing thin)

Cakesandale · 20/07/2010 12:14

I have tried to draw a veil over it SR, dh is convinced I am a loon. He still does impressions of me leaping in front of cow and getting hurled backwards. (Bastard) But that dog was pretty special to me [ grin] Nobody messed with Barney while I was around, he'd had enough of that before he came to us, poor thing.

SR - side effects of rads go on for ages, so stay vigilant. Mine is still red and a bit hot - radiologist at 12 month mammogram said that can go on for three years - obviously the skin doesn't stay in danger of breaking up, though.

The thought of RWU sampling foodie delights is sending me in the direction of our fridge....

smee · 20/07/2010 12:51

Cakes that's terrible; more so as you were pregnant. Though at your DH's impression! Glad you saved Barney, I hope he was grateful. But now I too have a vision of v.pregnant woman swirling a cape. True heroism! I saved our daft cat from a v.large angry bumblebee last night; not sure that compares!

I haven't read much on Rads yet, as am taking this all one step at a time. Hope the nipple holds together though SR, as that must be so sore. Am shocked to hear the effects can last that long Cakes. How are you MAS? Do you still suffer after effects?

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2010 12:55

that is a very scary story cakes - you were very brave though!!

Report back on deliciousness RWU !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2010 12:57

must've posted at same time smee
The irradiated breast is much more 'solid' than the other, with hard bits in it and vaguely redder - skin is fine, but yes,it feels different sometimes,in that there are twinges, either from surgery or rads.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 20/07/2010 13:08

Sounds like mine, MAS.

My lump was underneath my boob, so it is also very flat on the underside, like it has been left on a shelf for too long

sandripples · 20/07/2010 13:15

at boob on shelf! Three years! Crumbs. Another friend told me her's was harder and eventually smaller so its as well to know in advance so I can start cutting up different size bras and reassembling...not that I am wearing a bra yet.

Smee - don't worry its not sore actually - just looks a bit flaky and in one little area slightly um, crusty....OMG any more comparisons we can come up with? Perhaps time to draw Cakes's veil over this as well.
O but I think the govt doesn't want us to use veils any more....

smee · 20/07/2010 13:18

Sounds far from pleasant MAS. Though Cakes, am liking the idea of a breast that can sit on a shelf.

My breasts are already very different, as I had a mastectomy. The surgeon put an implant in at the same time (the upside down one if you remember ), and it's already harder than the other one. Not sure I like it at all tbh. The implant will apparently harden more after Rads. I have to go see the Surgeon again in December to decide what to do about it all. From the sounds of it my skin will still be very stressed then after Rads, so nothing will happen fast.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2010 13:52

my op was just to the side of the nipple so there's a dent there,so things a bit skewed, but never mind- the surgeon said you can have some reconstruction but really I woul;dn't want that/be bothered.

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 20/07/2010 18:17

Don't blame you MAS, really not worth it.

smee - you really should leave yours for a good bit as well. Your poor skin, otherwise - i am sure the result will be much better if you let it heal.

smee · 20/07/2010 20:15

Sounds wise to me. Am certainly not going to rush into anything. Am sure I'll have had enough of hospitals by then.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2010 21:04

am sure you will have smee...am sure that results of recon. would be much better after everything has settled, physically and psychologically.
