I don't think the Tories will do nearly as badly as predicted?

What do you think?

There was no way he could answer the question other than to say 'of course I will stay if I win' because if he hinted he was leaving it would have been another negative story.

People are foolish to give any credance to these types of answers, journalists are annoying for asking that question in the first place.

If it was someone who had given a lifetime to public service then I am not sure journalists would even think to ask the question.

As it is Rish! has only the aim of enriching himself and his father in law.

AInightingale · 04/07/2024 17:22

What would be the biggest shocks if there is a Tory wipeout? Which seats are considered the safest? Obviously the PM, is there any real possibility of that though?

I am voting tory, not because I want them but because one party having a supermajority would be even worse

You fell for it then. I thought it would work on some when they started shouting about danger of super majority. It makes people change their mind.

Takoneko · 03/07/2024 21:46

“Supermajority” seems to be a way of saying “clear mandate” when you don’t like the side that might end up with that clear mandate.

Yes it is but it really scares some voters because its said in an ominous way. It works so the Tories use it.

ActivePeony · 04/07/2024 17:55

Well...I couldn't vote for any of them in the end. Spoiled my ballot.

That will show them 🤣 did you draw a penis, leave it blank or write an essay. A vote for the incumbent then.

Exactly. What a waste of time and paper. 🙄

I don't think you really need to worry what I did. It sat the best with my conscience at this point in time.

In your opinion.

I'm not worried. I'm laughing 🙄your conscience, (the awareness of your actions) that you achieved precisely nothing. 👏 brilliant glad you realise you achieved nothing, many don't.

All those posts, all that time you spent on here going round the houses with a load of anonymous random people and when it came to it - the one thing that might actually make a difference to your life and the life of everyone you care about - you didn't use your voice.

Interested to find out what 'point' you feel you made? Will that show 'them' anything? If so what will it show 'them'?

I know, 😂 what was all the fuss about, might as well as stayed home. All that time and energy for precisely nothing.

ActivePeony · 04/07/2024 18:36

Luckily I couldn't give a hoot what internet randoms think. I had to vote with my conscience and I did not think that any of the candidates were worth my vote.

And a once in five years chance to have some agency just thrown away.

Just thinking more on the 'at this point in time' thing.
It'll be 5 years before you get another chance to be heard.
In a normal lifespan these points in time, these chances to change the direction of the country, come up about 12 times. 12 times if we're lucky.
12 times when all you've got to do is do some research, pick what you think is the best available option, go for short walk and draw a cross, then pootle home knowing you did your bit.
When the time comes you've got to be ready to be heard.
Every time you don't vote or spoil your vote 5 years of your life slips by and you just let it happen. You didn't voice an opinion, didn't take part in the democratic process.

Not speaking specifically to you @ActivePeony , but to anyone who didn't bother or wasted their vote.

There were old people creeping to our polling station on those stroller things today perhaps taking their last chance to make an impact after a lifetime of doing what they thought was best for them and country. I found that really moving.

I have posted about 5 times on this thread about the size of the Tory majority so am not sure what you are talking about.

And I assume from the patronising tone of your post that you mean I should have voted for Starmer? That was NEVER going to happen even if I had cast a vote.

BIossomtoes · 04/07/2024 18:40

It is moving. I find it becomes more important the older I get. My great fear is spending my last days under a right wing group.

Hardly agency when the incumbent has a massive majority and is likely to be re-elected on a reduced but still substantial majority.

And THAT is your real issue - not that I spoiled my ballot but that I did not vote Left. Even if I liked the current incarnation of the Labour Party it would be pointless in my constituency.
For many voters in the country, their vote means nothing.

I meant generally on MN on political matters, not this thread specifically.

Your assumption that I meant you should have voted for any particular party is an incorrect assumption and purely your imagination.

I know, it's like a comedy sketch. The 'conscience' said "do nothing but tell lots of random people you did nothing". Dynamite.
