General election 2024

So much talk about Reform, are people panicking?

equisetum · 02/07/2024 15:43

All across the boards people appear to be scared of just how popular they are.
If it's not panic, then why the desperation to tell anyone voting for them, that they are all racists?
Reform voters BTW, just very interested that no other parry is having such animated discussions. If they weren't becoming so popular, nobody would be talking about it.

@Araminta1003

"However, what worries me is that it appears to be a similar thinking that voted for Brexit, not because they really understood what it meant, but again as another protest vote."

I completely agree that a vote for Reform is a protest vote in the same way Brexit was a protest vote.

I don't even see Reform as a political party and more like a pressure group with some under funded un detailed general concepts rather than thought through policies.

But this didn't stop large numbers voting for both Brexit and Reform, which goes to show that there are large numbers of voters who feel politically homeless with the main parties and to whom these messages are appealing.

Brexit wasn’t a protest vote.

that’s your problem, thinking you’re better than others that don’t share your opinion prevents you from seeing things clearly.

i know what I voted for and I know it wasn’t delivered.

most Brexiteers know what they voted for and know it hasn’t been delivered.

Reform is not a protest vote, I know what I’m voting for and I want it delivered. As a twofer I also expect Brexit delivered by reform.

shaming and accusations of waycism aren’t going to cut it anymore.

you can all feel it out there which is why you are all panicking.

LarkspurLane · 03/07/2024 10:39

I don't think Reform will give you any of those.

Have they even a policy on point 3?

I do.

EasternStandard · 03/07/2024 10:40

Farting · 03/07/2024 10:32

who says they’re gonna die?

I said tow them back to France.

They should claim asylum in the first safe country which is a long way from here. if they don’t and they choose to get on an unsafe boat for an unnecessary journey then it’s their risk.

Aus do turn backs. They are also still part of the UNHCR

Araminta1003 · 03/07/2024 10:42

“most Brexiteers know what they voted for and know it hasn’t been delivered.“

OK go on then @Farting. How exactly was it not delivered? Be precise. Explain.

i don’t care

i have 3 concerns

  1. I don’t want my young children coming back from school questioning their gender

  2. I want a stop to small boats

  3. I want an end to male perverts in female spaces

its past worrying about money or whether anything has been “properly costed”

fuck that shit.

vote reform,

we’ll deal with the detail when the priorities have been sorted out.

Your young children come home questioning their Gender?? I have teenagers that have not once questioned their gender and they go to a school where the boys can wear skirts if they want! Guess what, my youngest doesn’t know any boy that wears a skirt and my eldest was the same not that they’d care if someone did one to do this! I’m just impressed that young children are vocal about gender politics!

Are you relying on Farage to fight for women’s rights 😂

the boats will be coming and going all day long if the French are entering into their extreme right governance but who cares about the above it is just fucking details isn’t it, soundbites are all you need, plans and policies are for the Woke Establishment (excluding Farage of course who is the Establishment not the Establishment, not the real Establishment, not the Establishment, Establishment)

Champagnesocialismo · 03/07/2024 10:44

Goldenbear · 03/07/2024 09:57

Yes, how exactly, with his Fascist friend across the channel, is Farage going to stop the boats? That’s the trouble with hateful politics is that nobody wants to cooperate, too busy stoking unrest and division!

Current suggestions appear to be build a wall (Mogg), Royal Navy to push back boats (Farage): interestingly no one mentions Rwanda…

Are you talking about the undercover actor?
Seems to be so much anger, and name calling. Racists, misogynists, repulsive. Wow!
It seems you believe everything you read!

Go on ANY article about immigration, and you will see hundreds of comments like this.

I thought their gender ideology ban was just in schools?

Aus does out sourcing for processing which is similar

If people want to know what works look at Aus

Champagnesocialismo · 03/07/2024 10:48

These aren’t serious suggestions and it reflects on the parties that make them. Silly arse policies for silly arse people

The policies that mirror Aus ones would do

Araminta1003 · 03/07/2024 10:50

I am Centre Left but I also want female spaces protected. That doesn’t mean that I don’t want to be kind to those who are trans or have gender dysphoria. I would like protection for all minorities, but not at the expends of women. There has to be a third way.
Gender neutral toilets are disgusting for women because many men piss all over the seats. And I am fed up with that. It isn’t even about the genuine people who are transgender. It’s the men taking the piss who are the problem.

Not sure you can legislate people out of being inconsiderate men. Otherwise our world would look different…

@Goldenbear Just because you went to Dulwich college, doesn't mean you are part of the establishment. Farrago offers completely different narrative from the mainstream.. and this is what 1 in 5 in the UK supports..

Who is ‘Farrago’ sounds like a horrible coffee flavoured chocolate bar!

I mean if you have grown up in London, if you went to school in west London that was pretty much inhabited by kids like those on ‘People Just Do Nothing’, believe me, Dulwich College IS the Establishment but even if you didn’t, it is the sum of parts as someone previously posted it runs through his veins so stop the pretence- he’s not a man of the people!

Hoolahoophop · 03/07/2024 10:54

Farting · 02/07/2024 17:38

I hope that happens and if it does then Nigel will be in No. 10 on Friday.

Brexit was never delivered and despite the lefty leaning propaganda those of us that voted for it are furious. You’ll never understand if you’re a remoaner.

What did you want to happen?

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/07/2024 10:56

Reform is a curiosity. It will fizzle out after a term of its MPs showing what it’s really all about.

No! It’s a really serious party with careful policies and serious people vote for them. There are no racist or BNP sympathizers in it, and Farage is a man of the PEEPUL!

Believe. I don’t think we should be afraid to mock Reform voters. And they should be challenged. If they are as decent as they claim, they will survive and win. If they are actually a bunch of thin skinned, poorly thought out politicians, with a number of racists trailing after them then it will be clear and they will just be the Greek Chorus of the UK, never happy, always carping, and forever disenchanted.

I'm also on the left and I can confidently say there is not a third way. A few Labour politicians have said this recently and it is a mixture of wishful thinking and arrogance. Do these people think they are the first to come up with the idea of some compromise that pleases everyone? Either women need to be told they can't have single sex spaces, or trans males need to be told they can't use opposite sex spaces. Anything else is a fudge that lets the issue fester for longer than it needs to.

Araminta1003 · 03/07/2024 11:12

I actually want Farage to win his Clacton seat now and have to turn up to Parliament and I hope someone somewhere keeps a very clear tab of how many days he actually shows up for. From what I can tell he is very good at criticising the system but has no answers on how to actually make things better. He might as well just spew bile on social media. We can all do that. The difficulty lies in implementation and managing things on the ground. Something which Farage would never in a million years be able to handle.

nomoretoriesforme · 03/07/2024 11:13

@Goldenbear Are you nitpicking on my typos? Also, Farago sounds not bad at all.. I'm familiar with Dulwich college, thanks. If Farage was a part of the establishment, he would be sprouting the same patronising agenda and wouldn't be undermined by BBC, Channel 4, etc

I’d say that depends on what’s behind their rise and the media headlines - which is trafficking mostly

I doubt Labour will see anything bar increase

You know if it but you must not have grown up in London in the 80s and 90s as it was definitely posh kids that went there! To be a day pupil now it is nearly £27000 a year! He was a City Trader and his Dad was a Stockbroker and his brother a Commodities Trader - if that isn’t the Establishment what is?!!

I've seen a lot of comments on local FB etc from people saying they are voting Reform. I can see the need and wish for a party which stands for something different, and is not Labour or Tory, but sadly Reform are not ready for this. Perhaps next time, if their candidates are properly vetted.
