General election 2024

Middle class biological women prepare to be relegated to being second class citizens by the end of the week

The Labour Party is expected to win a huge majority in the GE on Thursday. My fears are their stance on trans rights which are being prioritised over those of biological women and this will risk our safety, opportunities and dignity. I also work in the NHS and read what is happening to the nurses in Darlington with horror.

My other concern is they have not been transparent on their plans on how to raise money for their spending pledges other than say they will invest and reap the benefit of green technology. This is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. I can only conclude we will be taxed even more but stealthy.

Then I read this in their manifesto:
‘Expansion of the Equality Act 2010Labour will implement the socioeconomic protected characteristic of the Equality Act, also the socioeconomic duty under Section 1 of the Equality Act and ensure equality impact assessments of government policy are conducted.5 Jun 2024’
To me this means richer areas will get less money from government for public services than poorer areas. I live in an area which is very boringly middle class but our public services are already cut to the bone(bin collections fortnightly, potholes left for months, all adult evening classes gone) but we still pay a hefty amount of council tax.

So under a Labour government I as a biological woman, working in the NHS on the frontline and will be expected to share our women’s changing rooms with any man with a GRC. I will probably be taxed more as a higher rate taxpayer because the tax bands have stayed static for years and I will expect less public services because I live in the suburbs but my council taxes will most likely increase just to sustain what we already have

So you're now comparing life under Labour to developing nations that have no toilets?

KateDelRick · 01/07/2024 13:43

Dear lord, that's desperate!

Is it wrong of me to pmsl at the hyperbolic bollix being trotted out by the tetchy Tories in this election?BlushGrin

Developing nations still allow for dignity and privacy, so yes Labour are dragging us back into pre historic times of no privacy or civility.

KateDelRick · 01/07/2024 13:46

Labour are dragging us back to prehistoric times
Read that back, seriously.

The Criminal Bar associate has been warning for years that the mass exodus of RASSO lawyers will create dire circumstances for victims of rape and sexual offences. Didn't stop Raab etc picking a fight with the profession by refusing to implement the recommended pay award.

Since 2010 43% of courts have closed. Sentences have got longer but not we havent built enough prisons. So now we release people early to free up space.
Court backlogs at record levels. Victims waiting years to have their case heard - which means that more victims and witnesses drop out as the stress in waiting is overwhelming and often court dates are cancelled because they are not enough RASSO barristers available.

But the Conservatives haven’t done this either? So we are already there according to you.

I already feel like a second-class citizen, thanks.
The Tories had a chance to clarify SSE and did not.

Labour will make some aspects of this issue worse - I am deeply concerned about their plans for school guidance in light of the Cass report and Bridget Phillipson's remarks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they will not put rapists back into female prisons and Wes Streeting will keep his word about single-sex spaces in the NHS.

This is bigger than one party and will take of pushback decades to unravel. In the meantime, we will keep campaigning and see which manifesto promises Labour will achieve.

Absolutely this!

Women's rights is bigger than one party. The Tories have "read the room" better recently but no party can be trusted to protect women as a sex class, apart from possibly Posie's party and the Social Democrats, neither of whom are running candidates in my constituency.

So, who do I vote for in my safe Labour seat to reduce the TWAW-chanting incumbent's majority? Sadly, I'm not in Rosie Duffield's constituency, if I was, I'd unhesitatingly vote for her.

Well no they don't. Those poor women and girls have nowhere safe to go to the toilet, sometimes there simply aren't any.

Some of these arguments are ridiculous.

Yes they have! They have legislated for single sex space and toilets or did you miss that?

Labour will win, but they will only last one term (IMO)

I agree and I don't think they will get the majority they are expecting either.

Well in all of the developing countries I have been to, they most definitely had functioning loos for goodness sake, and were segregated as you would expect to see. You are talking about third world countries - like where? Have you actually stepped foot in a country considered to be developing even?

They do have better options because women are recognised and respected there and the privacy guaranteed. We will no longer have that in Labour's Britain. Nothing even close.

Mycatsmudge · 01/07/2024 13:51

Wow loads of responses, thanks to all who’ve contributed to the discussion. Currently on my work break so shall answer some of the comments that have been made so far. Unfortunately the vast majority of Labour’s female MPs are fully signed up to TWAW and any detractors like Rosie Duffield is subjected to appalling abuse and treatment by the Labour Party. Just because a MP is a woman does not mean she will automatically support legal protection for biological women. We just want MPs of both sexes to recognise why it’s important to legally protect single sex spaces for biological women. As I was getting changed for work today in our women’s changing rooms a colleague was saying how she was wary about using them now especially during unsociable hours because men can now access them with a GRC and no one can tell which ones are there with an ulterior motive. Considering women make up the bulk of clinical staff in the NHS this is going to be a massive issue when Labour makes GRCs easier to obtain.

The middle class comments, yes I see myself as mc and probably so do probably the majority of UK society. I have a degree and a post graduate qualification. I work in a professional job, I own my own home, have some savings, contribute to a work pension, am a higher rate tax payer, live in the suburbs, have a dh and dcs, volunteer as a litter picker in my neighbourhood and have a few hobbies. However, I come from a working class background, parents both had manual unskilled jobs. Council estate house, first in the family to go to university and now I work in the inner cities. I am absolutely fed up of people like me who do the right things being told we have it too good and are squeezed for even more taxes usually by stealth: inheritance, council, fuel, pensions, savings. When I look around our neighbourhood I see the state of our roads, the amount of rubbish piling up as collections are now reduced to fortnightly and how we no longer have the affordable/ inclusive exercise classes run by the council. But our council taxes continue to increase see annually. But as a middle class biological woman I’ve been told in these threads by some posters that I should be kind and continue to put everyone else before myself

It's frightening how many of you don't seem to realise that it doesn't matter if it's wearing a red tie or a blue tie ... they all work for the same cabal.

I'm saying that mixed-sex loos are in contravention of internationally recognised development targets, so are the opposite of the "progress" that the poster I was replying to claimed them to be.

I have no idea how you reached your assertion from the context I was replying in.

Notonthestairs · 01/07/2024 13:54

The Conservatives have had a majority for a decade. an 80 seat majority since 2019. They were free to introduce any legislation they liked.

The Conservatives have had a majority for a decade. an 80 seat majority since 2019. They were free to introduce any legislation they liked.

They didn't know in the same way that none of us did that this was in fact activism. We all thought at the beginning that the trans movement was similar to that of the gay movement etc and most people supported it initially and saw it as 'progress' the conservatives did the same. As the demands for more and more of women's space began, sports, prison places etc then it became obvious to all BUT Labour that this is was very bad for women.

In the last few years the conservatives have pledged to at least realise we do not have penises (something Starmer has failed to do) and that we need additional safe guards to single spaces. Something Labour has failed to do.
