Middle class biological women prepare to be relegated to being second class citizens by the end of the week

The Labour Party is expected to win a huge majority in the GE on Thursday. My fears are their stance on trans rights which are being prioritised over those of biological women and this will risk our safety, opportunities and dignity. I also work in the NHS and read what is happening to the nurses in Darlington with horror.

My other concern is they have not been transparent on their plans on how to raise money for their spending pledges other than say they will invest and reap the benefit of green technology. This is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. I can only conclude we will be taxed even more but stealthy.

Then I read this in their manifesto:
‘Expansion of the Equality Act 2010Labour will implement the socioeconomic protected characteristic of the Equality Act, also the socioeconomic duty under Section 1 of the Equality Act and ensure equality impact assessments of government policy are conducted.5 Jun 2024’
To me this means richer areas will get less money from government for public services than poorer areas. I live in an area which is very boringly middle class but our public services are already cut to the bone(bin collections fortnightly, potholes left for months, all adult evening classes gone) but we still pay a hefty amount of council tax.

So under a Labour government I as a biological woman, working in the NHS on the frontline and will be expected to share our women’s changing rooms with any man with a GRC. I will probably be taxed more as a higher rate taxpayer because the tax bands have stayed static for years and I will expect less public services because I live in the suburbs but my council taxes will most likely increase just to sustain what we already have

Wow loads of responses, thanks to all who’ve contributed to the discussion. Currently on my work break so shall answer some of the comments that have been made so far. Unfortunately the vast majority of Labour’s female MPs are fully signed up to TWAW and any detractors like Rosie Duffield is subjected to appalling abuse and treatment by the Labour Party. Just because a MP is a woman does not mean she will automatically support legal protection for biological women. We just want MPs of both sexes to recognise why it’s important to legally protect single sex spaces for biological women. As I was getting changed for work today in our women’s changing rooms a colleague was saying how she was wary about using them now especially during unsociable hours because men can now access them with a GRC and no one can tell which ones are there with an ulterior motive. Considering women make up the bulk of clinical staff in the NHS this is going to be a massive issue when Labour makes GRCs easier to obtain.

The middle class comments, yes I see myself as mc and probably so do probably the majority of UK society. I have a degree and a post graduate qualification. I work in a professional job, I own my own home, have some savings, contribute to a work pension, am a higher rate tax payer, live in the suburbs, have a dh and dcs, volunteer as a litter picker in my neighbourhood and have a few hobbies. However, I come from a working class background, parents both had manual unskilled jobs. Council estate house, first in the family to go to university and now I work in the inner cities. I am absolutely fed up of people like me who do the right things being told we have it too good and are squeezed for even more taxes usually by stealth: inheritance, council, fuel, pensions, savings. When I look around our neighbourhood I see the state of our roads, the amount of rubbish piling up as collections are now reduced to fortnightly and how we no longer have the affordable/ inclusive exercise classes run by the council. But our council taxes continue to increase see annually. But as a middle class biological woman I’ve been told in these threads by some posters that I should be kind and continue to put everyone else before myself

Who do you think people should vote for then?
Tories haven't done much to fix the issues you are talking about - is there another option?
I also don't agree that the majority of people in society see themselves as middle class.

Let’s this thread running after Friday so we can track in real time how the changes are affecting us.

It’ll be a dull thread with zero traffic. But i think I’d prefer dull to hysterical none sense.

FWR have one already https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3348290-It-will-never-happen-resource-thread

As you well know Starmer is saying you and I could have penises, in fact ANY women can apparently.

I am laughing because anyone that votes Labour is certainly not a GC feminist. Turkeys literally voting for Christmas is more like it.

You are saying enjoy the rest of your day, because YOU can not defend the indefensible. So just vote Labour and throw your daughters and all women under the bus, but at least own it fgs.

"I am laughing because anyone that votes Labour is certainly not a GC feminist. Turkeys literally voting for Christmas is more like it."

ok anyone who votes Tory is not a feminist then

LastTrainEast · 01/07/2024 15:24

Apparently lots of people hate Tories so much it's worth destroying the lives of all the women in the UK to teach them a lesson. Quite a few of those who think that are women.

It will not be much consolation when the posts start appearing saying "hold on. I didn't mean ME. I meant other women"

How is Labour going to destroy my life?

It’s not. I really resent this stuff about not being a feminist or the wrong kind of feminist. I espoused feminism before most MN posters were born. It’s so frustrating seeing it painted into a tiny corner while all the other issues that affect women get ignored.

midgetastic · 01/07/2024 15:32

So the tories haven't destroyed anyone's life but labour will destroy the lives of women

?

Look around at the child poverty , at the women being unpaid and unvalued nurses and care workers because there are no longer resources to pay for these roles , at the women's forced out of work due to childcare costs, at the women and children denied sure start support ,mand tell me with a straight face that the tories have been good for women

I completely agree, it's engaging.

How is Labour going to destroy my life?

By improving your employment rights and balancing tax more fairly. Your life will be rubbish.

I haven't said there is one, i merely stated calling yourself a feminist and then voting Tory doesn't make sense

Bastards. I'm voting Reform UK PLC, cause I want all my rights taken away. Although the Tories will do that too. Hmm. Who to choose?

Reform all the way. They do know what a women is. As long as you like baking, of course, whilst they know what a women is they think her place is in the kitchen.

Champagnesocialismo · 01/07/2024 15:39

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 01/07/2024 14:04

I think that if you are unhappy with Labour's stance on gender, or even don't care about it either way but really want people to vote Labour, it would be worth your while writing to your Labour MP saying that maybe they should rethink their stance on women's rights which is going down like a cup of cold sick with a lot of people who would otherwise vote for them.

But instead you're choosing to hector women who don't want to vote Labour into changing their minds for the greater good.

Nothing has ever made me more tempted to vote Tory.

I’m pointing out that the Conservatives have done nothing. That does go to credibility. If you want to vote Conservative that is up to you. Assuming Labour do get in, then I assume gender critical feminists skeptical of their position will carry on with their efforts. I also assume that there will be a lot of Conservatives who won’t bother and are using this issue as wedge issue. It is not credible to claim to care about this stuff after 14 years, having the power to change it, not supporting legislation to do so, and spending time whipping people up on the issue. That is an utter piss take.

You're spoilt for choice. Life might be slightly less pleasant under Reform; he likes Andrew Tate who is an alleged rapist and sex trafficker.

They want to get rid off the Equality Act and take us out of the ECHR, so erode our human rights. If you're an ethnic minority, they don't believe in discrimination laws. They want to cut funding to public services by about £90 billion. So that's women who work in the public sector and who rely on public services, screwed.

I don't want to vote Conservative. I will not be voting Conservative. In fact, my postal vote arrived today and I have just spoiled it. I wrote, "None of the above, I cannot vote for Tories, racists, or people who believe women have penises" on it. I am now on my way to post it.

The Tories are fucking terrible.

They are so fucking terrible that people are willing to elect the people who say women have penises to run the country.

That is truly a sign of how terrible they are.

Happy?

To be clear, he isn't saying any woman can have a penis. He is saying that some extra special women have penises, and that the special women with penises are more vulnerable and oppressed than the ordinary women without penises so we must all be kind to them and not object to their penises in women's spaces.

He is saying exactly the same as the Conservatives. Some males, with penises, are legally women.

Unless you want to vote for a fringe party or Reform Ltd, then you will be voting for a party that believes some men are women.

That's reality, which is why I don't understand why it only ever comes up in relation to Labour.

Well they seem to have shown nothing but contempt to women for 14 years and many women are considerably worse off.
