To not understand why people vote Conservative

Aquarius1234 · 01/07/2024 09:23

I'm in my late 30s and don't understand my relatives pretty much all voting Conservative.
Aren't they a bunch of upper class twits, plus most are racist, homophobic etc etc
And Conservative in nature.
The ones that obv hardly know anything other than for tax reasons, are tedious.
That's the only thing I knew when I was about 13...
Labour don't male average salary people pay loads of tax right?

I waste no love whatsoever on the Tories. I have no intention of casting a vote in their direction this Thursday.

However, this constant disingenuous Mumsnet parrot cry - 'but I don't understaaaaaand!' is beyond tedious.

You do understand, OP, only too well. If your relatives are not necessarily a racist, homophobic horror-show, then they are simply people with different political beliefs from your own.

It happens. Not everyone is the same.

@BIossomtoes

EasternStandard
"The IFS agrees with you

It doesn’t and repeating it ad infinitum doesn’t make it true"

Actually the IFS is very clear that it does:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckkkk90lw50o.amp

Denying it doesn't mean it's not true.

The IFS says it’s a “trilemma” - raise taxes, cut spending or borrow. It’s not, it’s a quadlemma - the IFS hasn’t taken growth into account, despite Reeves being explicit that it’s their strategy. So the IFS isn’t being honest here.

What men are watching little girls shower ? So all transgender people are paedos or perverts is the implication ?
Ah the vindictive post about trans gender people. I’m gender critical and don’t think anyone can change their biological sex or should gain entry to single sex spaces but that doesn’t mean it’s ok to mock people because they are different.

It’s not so much them .. the are likely wanting to just get on with their lives ..however it opens the situation up to predators who will use this stance proposed by Starmer to go into women’s toilets and a licence to do so. Changing rooms and everything… Starmer I’m sure would be the first one to reaction’s saw a bloke with a penis dressed up in a skirt etc walking b behind his wife or daughter !!!!! … end of
there is no room for negotiation on this situation …. He needs to make it absolutely clear that only biologically born women can use women’s safe spaces.
Any other view to me is being absolutely menacing

Franzkafkascat · 01/07/2024 18:04

@cavalier why do you believe the tories ? They’ve lied about most things, reneged on promises. You’re being played big time.

The poster didn’t even mention trans, just ‘men’. The only one to mention trans was you which just goes to show you don’t understand the issue at all, despite being ‘gender critical’ as you say.

Oh the prawns, Im a veggie and couldn't eat anything that could look me in the eye! I also can't understand how people can eat pizza, drink coke or pepsi, but I let them get on with it. To each his own!

LlynTegid · 01/07/2024 19:36

In 2019 it was as much because they did not want someone who had called Hamas 'friends' and appeased anti-semitic comments by some of his supporters, as the alternative.

Look at the leader of the Conservatives and look at the leader of labour. Rishi Sunak is Asian fgs, Keir ain't. Conservatives have had 3 female PMs. Labour have a woman problem and KS will only take biology lessons from another man (Tony Blair).

I used to feel the same as you OP. All Conservatives are horrible racist, anything -ist, isn't it dreadful my family vote for them, then I grew up and saw how nasty and intolerant people on the left can be - I used to be like that too.

Personally I think the conservatives are a pretty liberal bunch by values, they reflect the UK after all - the issues for me are more to do with competence. I wish they were more competent and I'd be happy to stick with them. Having said that, I don't think Labour will fare much better.

HowIrresponsible · 01/07/2024 20:19

Labour have never had a female leader let alone a person of colour and tories are racist and homophobic.

But people like the OP are allowed to vote and think they know it all

BIossomtoes · 01/07/2024 20:28

Labour did have the first black and Asian MPs.

HowIrresponsible · 01/07/2024 20:49

BIossomtoes · 01/07/2024 20:28

So why weren't they good enough to lead the party and how about a female leader?

Nope all white male middle class boys in charge

Bernie Grant and Diane Abbott were too controversial for consideration. Boateng’s timing was unfortunate as his term coincided with John Smith and Blair. A woman leader is long overdue, Harriet Harmon was a real missed opportunity.

Why on earth would a man be in a female changing room then. You’re sooo clever. And yes I bow to your superiority on trans issues.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 01/07/2024 22:11

I have a couple of wider family relatives who will vote conservative, and they are quite literally politically ignorant. It's all about tax and immigration for them, although they're quick to say that they may emigrate 🤣

MyCatHatesSandals · 01/07/2024 22:26

I am voting Conservative. Tactically: because Labour needs an opposition, and no other party is powerful enough to be that.

I believe vehemently that the Tories deserve everything that's coming to them. I also believe that Labour isn't going to be good enough. Generally, as a populace, we live in hope with each new election. There's a sense of a new beginning each time a govt is voted in ... and then reality hits.

Labour has been handed a poisoned chalice. And that chalice has been poisoned not only by the Tories, but by the Labour government that was last in power. It's difficult to see things in shades of grey; and right now, shades of grey seem downright impossible. But they are the only colours available. There's no black; there's no white. And anyone who disagrees will need to live out the next 4 - 8 years to see it. Then then it'll no doubt be Labour's turn to be on the majority's shit list.

So I'm staying in that grey zone. Tory it is.

If the current polls are accurate we will have a labour government and Lib Dem opposition. So Labour become the party on the right since Lib Dem’s have shifted so far to the left

Don’t need to look it up, I’m old enough to remember.
Crikey is CHQ working overtime and letting the tea boys have a go.

We’re going back nearly 50 years? Seriously? It seems the tea boys can’t spell either.

It will be tragic if Conservatives win again. I hate the word Tory.
Ps how much extra tax are we talking about?

You sound like the absolute opposite of liberal and open minded. Your views are small minded, narrow and offensive. You also sound uneducated by stereotyping people in the way you do.

One person made out the NHS was good under Conservative about always being able to get an appointment.
I wasn't sure if that was sarcasm..

This may come as a shock but I was diagnosed with cancer in 2021. The NHS has been faultless. I haven't had to wait, treatment under way in 20 days and has run to schedule. I can get a gp appt simply by emailing and asking, and I've had one minor op since (taking out a troublesome ovary), the wait for which was 4 weeks.

So not everyone's experiences are the same. If they live in an affluent area and have always been able to get a well paid job, their view of the world will be fairly positive.

It may be the worse they have to deal with is potholes.
