Unless absolutely SHEDLOADS of people who voted Conservative in 2019 vote Labour this time.

That's right, isn't it?

Well obviously they won’t be otherwise they wouldn’t be backing them so openly.

More likely they accept they are in a position of privilege and are happy to pay the cost that comes with that knowing it’s nothing to them.

We will see ..
They are the biggest hypocrites

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2024 09:22

Vorderman and Lineker both strike me as the kind of people who wouldn’t turn a hair at paying more tax. They probably wouldn’t even notice.

I don’t think so
Michelle Mone really got vordermans goat when she was jealous of her rich status
virtual signalling champagne socialists
read them up

There was a great interview with Thanggam Debonnaire in the ST today which made me feel very optimistic for the future of culture and the Arts. Hopefully, she'll keep her seat.

I’m very afraid Thangam Debbonare is going to lose her seat. Carla Denyer is very impressive. It’s a huge shame they’re up against one another.

What??

Carol Vorderman is jealous of the corrupt, probably criminal, Michelle Mone?

That's the funniest thing I have read in a long time.

Clavinova · 30/06/2024 09:47

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2024 09:20

But I don't see the younger generation being as pessimistic as we are.

The young people I know are far more pessimistic than me. It’s ridiculous to say they’re not aware of what’s been taken away from them. One I know wanted to do an MA in Amsterdam - EU fees €3k, rest of the world €16k. So that’s off the table. That’s just one example.

Your ds must be at least 40 if not older!! Grin

Vorderman was angry about Mone ripping off the taxpayer, not jealous of her stolen wealth. I follow Vorderman on X so I know exactly what motivates the warrior queen.

Does a Tory majority of 12,000 count as small, in the Shire town in which I reside the incumbent Tory MP isn'y bothering to campaign they are so certain they have lost. #dklemon

My understanding is they’re treating anything with less than 15,000 majority as under threat. My constituency had a Tory majority of about 13,000 at the last election and the polls are showing a coin toss between Tory and Lib Dem.

Well, you've used this anecdote about your ds a number of times.

And your point is? It still costs more than five times more for a UK citizen to do a Masters in EU countries now than it did before Brexit, regardless of the age of the student.

They had anything under 20,000 as a concern a few weeks back. That threshold has if anything probably increased further since. Which is a fairly staggering admission of failure on their part.

Remember though the polls predicted a run away Corbyn win back in 2020

Eh? There was no election in 2020 and Jeremy Corbyn was no longer the leader of the Labour Party.

If you mean the 2019 election then every opinion poll two weeks before the vote predicted a Tory majority.

In 2017 most polls predicted a Tory majority and only YouGov predicted the Hung Parliament that we actually got.

There was never an election where the polls predicted a Corbyn win. I think you may have imagined this.

Itsmyopinion · 30/06/2024 09:57

If Labour win it will be bye bye Britian!

I am not a fan of Conservatives either but if labour get in (which they will - then god help us). More tax hikes to middle class working families, flood gates will open even more to immigration to which we will be housing them in the new pledge to build more new houses in green belt areas!
They cannot be trusted and I think things will get worse without a doubt under Labour.

Gosh, I am pleased we don't have the same friends

Lots of my friends are voting lib dem and green

you’d be a very lucky person if you had friends like mine

We’re doomed! Stop with the histrionics, Sunak’s doing quite enough of them this morning.

Have a look at some actual representative surveys some time, instead of saying what you personally see. Presumably from a reasonably- very privileged bubble? The young people you know certainly aren't like my 23 year old DS or any of his friends.

These young people... do they own property out of interest? Don't know about you but I was on the property ladder at 25. In my second home at 32.

Edited

I've never owned property, have always been a renter. I'm 52. So you are way more privileged than me.

I have no issue with home ownership except my generation chose to not make them homes but investments. So we stuffed up for the youth not the government.

I'm interested why your 23 year old or any of his friends can't find work.

I found it amusing that you described your 40/50 year old son as a 'young person' that's all. The cynic in me thinks you changed your usual anecdote to fit your argument.

I didn’t. You really are struggling, aren’t you? Cheer yourself up, go and watch Sunak attempting to keep his petulance under control on Laura K.

Your final sentence shows that you know very few 23 year olds.

I didn't say he didn't work by the way.

VJBR · 30/06/2024 10:03

I am also undecided and this is a genuine question. Why do people think the country will be better under Labour? KS doesn’t seem to have a clear view of the future and his policies are wishy washy. I am concerned about immigration and the toll it takes on our resources and there is talk of increasing university fees which means lower income families have less chance of their children going on to further education.

Are you denying that it’s true @Clavinova? Maybe play the ball not the player?

GrantShappsOtherUserName · 30/06/2024 10:08

Clav you really do need to stop thread trawling. Stick to what is said on this thread.

It's very clear to me that blossomwas referring to a different YP.

It is also not a disputable fact that study abroad has been rendered almost impossible for all but the most wealthy and that we are back to the times when the most privileged can build up the most experience to work their way into the elite jobs.

Don't believe everything you read. Do you live in Wales where main roads are 20mph? It's not just side streets or where there are schools. I've seen a 30mph sign at traffic lights and a 20mph sign across the road after the traffic lights. There is a 20mph sign outside a school, fine but a 30mph sign around the corner from the school going past a hospital. It's constantly changing and I very rarely use 3rd gear and definitely not 4th these days. Reducing pollution is just as important.

I live on the Welsh borders, and am impressed by how much more sensible the speed limits now are in England than in Wales. Whether or not a road is a main road, if it is residential there should be a 20mph, which contrasts with the residential street I live on that is derestricted.

All preferable to the a road to Gilead being paved by the Starmers apparently good intentions

Preferable to be robbed, shafted and lied to? They were laughing behind our backs whilst lining their pockets and those of their mates. Johnson didn’t give a shit about the covid situation. He just saw it as a chance for him and his cronies to get richer. His obscene wife treating herself to an owl lantern that cost £11,000 whilst people were forced to use food banks and kids weren’t allowed free school meals. All smacks of Marie Antoinette to me and look how that ended up
