Are Labour just going to blame 14 years of Tory rule for next few years?

No I am not Tory HQ. Probably only voting due to women’s suffrage. Might spoil ballot - haven’t decided.

But aren’t Labour just going to spend the next 0-3 years blaming 14 years of the Tories? Literally what the Conservatives did when they got in?

Already sick of it

Maybe the Tories will be so kind to leave a note when they depart
Or a betting slip

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 21/06/2024 19:59

Who knows if they will? Tories have absolutely fucked up literally everything so Labour do have a helluva mess to deal with and it’s going to take a lot of work to even attempt to fix it.

It’s also worth pointing out the Tories still blame Labour for shit and they’ve not been in power for 14 years.

Bobbotgegrinch · 21/06/2024 20:28

Why wouldn't they blame the Tories for the next few years?

Things aren't magically going to get better as soon as a new government take over. It's going to take a lot of hard work and a fair bit of time before we start seeing improvements, even if we get the best government ever at this election.

The Tories absolutely fucked us. Hell Liz Truss alone managed in 42 days to screw things up so much that my brothers mortgage is £400 a month more expensive. The NHS is fucked, education is fucked, despite us paying the highest amount of Tax since the second world war.

Even with infinite money, it will take time to recruit new nurses, new teachers, build more hospitals, and there really isn't infinite money.

It's going to take a good two years before we start seeing real improvements, no matter who is in power. We probably won't know if things are really getting better until near the next election.

So yes, labour will likely blames the Tories sometimes. Because it will be true.

You're rejecting the chance to have a say in your own government. Look at places like Iran, Afghanistan and North Korea where no one gets a vote and people are frightened to speak out.
You are making a farce of a democratic system, which, while not perfect or entirely fair, is the basis of a civilised society.
I stand by my assertion that to spoil a vote is ignorant.

Spoiling a ballot is a legitimate democratic choice.

Barleysugar86 · 21/06/2024 20:32

Well yes, but I'm sure it will be true to a large extent because it is much easier to put cuts in place than repair something that has been hacked so much it's just limping along. I think we'll feel the pain of the Tory government for a long time.

That aside it seems to be politics 101 to do this. I live in a council area that flip flops between the two constantly. Everything is always the fault of the other party in their manifestos.

notprincehamlet · 21/06/2024 20:33

The Tories have been hollowing out the country for 14 years. Everything their greedy sausage fingers have touched is in crisis. That's going to take a fair bit of unpicking.

BIossomtoes · 21/06/2024 20:37

As for 'seeing the books' it's all out there - you know - not hidden - we KNOW the state of the country

I suspect it’s worse than we’ve been led to believe. I bet Sue Gray’s shit list doubles in size when all the horrors come to light.

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/06/2024 21:35

Well they are bound to implicate the recent conservative government in the crap situation the country finds itself in. It would be dishonest not to. I would love to see Labour spend money to get children and old people out of poverty, to improve public services and to start encouraging investment in clean energy streams but we all
know that there is no money and that the lack of investment in the last few years has left us in a very unstable situation. We need at least 2,terms of level headed management to start to turn things round.

pointythings · 21/06/2024 22:03

Considering the Tories were still whinging about 'the state Labour left the country in' just before they called the election, I think letting Labour have 3 or so years' grace would be the decent thing to do.

Korner · 21/06/2024 19:31

Spoiling a ballot helps no one. In fact, it's an ignorant thing to do.

Is your opinion.

I’m noting my dissatisfaction with the available candidates and the system in general.

I’ve attended counts in the past and no-one gives a shit. The spoiled ballots are counted as a matter of routine but no one cares, no one registers the protest. Politicians are far more interested in the people who don’t turn up at all.

MarlieJae · 21/06/2024 22:09

What choice have they got other than blame the Tories. This country is a complete mess. So run down.

Roads, pavements, schools, water, rivers, care, education, environment, legal/coroner services, police, prison, justice …etc etc etc.

TBF Labour are being realistic. KS saying it will take 10 years to put our country back on track.

Fluffyowl00 · 21/06/2024 22:16

I'm hoping they’ll compound Michelle Mone’s yacht, bring it to port in the UK and invite anyone who’s ever donate to a donkey sanctuary to ‘party like a Tory during Covid’. What a night!

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/06/2024 22:20

PandoraSox · 21/06/2024 18:10

I love the smell of Tory desperation on a Friday evening!

For the first year or two Labour will be quite right to point out the utter heap of shite it has inherited.

Quite! I'm finding it funny how desperate they're getting. Blaming Labour for something before they even get in! 😂

It's going to take many, many years to undo the mess created by the Tories so yes, they probably will blame a lot of problems in 14 years of Conservative rule - and rightly so!

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/06/2024 22:32

It's the Tories' fault. Any sane person knows that.
I think their supporters should just stop with this pointless complaining and sort out their party.

No one is interested in the people who don't turn up.

AnnieSnap · 21/06/2024 22:35

I hope so as it would be entirely right to do so. It will take a decade to sort out the broken society the Tories have created 🤬

Same. I've helped with spoilt ballot checking. Noone is really looking at them beyond determining if they count as a vote or not. It's a waste of energy

caringcarer · 21/06/2024 22:39

Probably because things will get worse before they get better.

Badbadbunny · 21/06/2024 22:40

Yes, labour will spend their term in office blaming the tories. Just as the tories spent the last 14 years blaming labour. Before that Blair and brown spent 13 years blaming the tories. And so it goes on. The two cheeks of the same arse comment is so true. The more things change, the more they stay the same!

PinkiOcelot · 21/06/2024 22:41

They’re not wrong.

Strin · 21/06/2024 22:42

Even if they do, surely people don’t want another 5 years of this.

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/06/2024 22:44

The Conservative supporters also push the.myth at this point that "all parties are the same".
It's total nonsense of course, but an encouragement of apathy may discourage Labour voters, they hope. "Don't vote Labour! They're the same as Tories!" Just ridiculous.

Triestre · 21/06/2024 22:53

They better get on with it because the floating voters will not back them in 4 years. However, rumours are that they want to make 16 years old and prisoners to vote. So can keep winning elections.
