Are Labour just going to blame 14 years of Tory rule for next few years?

No I am not Tory HQ. Probably only voting due to women’s suffrage. Might spoil ballot - haven’t decided.

But aren’t Labour just going to spend the next 0-3 years blaming 14 years of the Tories? Literally what the Conservatives did when they got in?

Already sick of it

Yes, probably. And mostly it will be justified. How can the current state of things not be down to the Tories after 14 years?

Exactly. Already sick of people whining about the fact that undoing the damage is going to take years.

Well who would you blame for the current mess? Which is worse than in equivalent countries before you try Covid / war/ climate change or anything else which affects everyone

The people who have had control for the last 14 years or ???

And do you think the current government is open and honest , books on the table for all to study ?

I thought we were meant to blame But Jeremy Corbyn.

Although there was a while when Michael Foot got some exercise.

Not saying this is a reason to vote Tory just I’m already pissed off at the fact we as country never get ANY accountability.

Edited

But the current government should be held to account for a reasonable period. Weird to think Labour are to be blamed for the state of things on day 1.

Korner · 21/06/2024 18:12

I’ve literally never voted before!

Because you are young or because you couldn't be arsed to engage in politics?

StrawberryFlowers · 21/06/2024 18:38

Hatty65 · 21/06/2024 18:02

Do you expect them to fix everything instantly?

That seems pretty unreasonable. 14 years of huge Tory cuts in public services will certainly take some time to resolve. NHS and Education will hardly be sorted overnight, will they?

I agree. In addition to the tories trashing public services they also accidentally bumbled out of the single market and damaged the economy. Labour will have to pick up the pieces of their destruction.
Of course some people with short memories will blame Labour for not being able to instantly solve the mess they've left.

LakeTiticaca · 21/06/2024 18:38

Tbf in 2010 the tories inherited 13 years of Labour mismanagement to deal with. Its a vicious circle, just goes around and around

countrygirl99 · 21/06/2024 18:40

Given that yhe Tories still blame Labour after 14 years would you blame them?

cointos · 21/06/2024 18:41

My guess is yes. Keir Starmer spent lockdown criticising every single decision Boris made without saying what he would have done differently. I haven't been able to stomach him since then. I'm feeling very stuck on how to vote. Our local labour MP has only just got her feet under the table since a recent by-election and I feel like she's very capable.

Dontcallmescarface · 21/06/2024 18:44

Well TBF the Tories are still blaming labour for things that happened the last time Labour were in Government so they've been doing the same thing for 14 years.

The difference is what has happened for the last 14 years is But Jeremy Corbyn's fault, whereas what happened before then was the Labour Party's fault.

If Keir Starmer had been Prime Minister in 2020, or indeed if Michael Gove, Theresa May or almost anyone other than Boris Johnson, the actions would have been taken sooner. The periods of restrictions a lot shorter, no Downing Street parties, and at least 20,000 fewer deaths.

Schools could have resumed in person at least part time in the summer term, the main difference. I doubt that anyone else would have denied people the opportunity for a funeral or at least being able to file past the coffin in church and pray privately.

Never forget how bad Boris Johnson was,

Londonrach1 · 21/06/2024 18:47

Yes. Just like Tory was for everything labour did and labour did for everything Tory did.... people forget.... Both as bad as each other

CaptainOliviaBenson · 21/06/2024 18:47

Do you really think anything Labour do in the next few years can even come close to the fucking damage the Tories have done to this country? They've had 14 years to sort their shit out and instead, they've just made me tax cuts for their billionaire pals and fucked the rest of us over!

As far as I'm concerned Labour can do what they like just as long as we don't get another 5 years of the fucking criminals that have been running the country for the last 14 years!

Tristar15 · 21/06/2024 18:47

The Tories blamed Labour for a decade!

And sorting out 14 years of their crap is going to take a long time. They should be blamed, they’ve inflicted generational damage on this country which will take decades to overcome.

Chickenuggetsticks · 21/06/2024 18:47

Yeah I mean the tories flogged that horse for a good while, fully expect Labour to do the same. There is often some truth in it, anytime a sitting government is kicked out it’s because they’ve fucked up somewhere .

ghostyslovesheets · 21/06/2024 18:49

This is such an odd thread - Labour have repeatedly stated that their first priority is to address the damage the tories have cause the economy and AS SUCH - they can't promise many of the things supporters would like to see - they can only deliver on their costed plans for the first 2-3 years - so they aren't hiding anything.

As for 'seeing the books' it's all out there - you know - not hidden - we KNOW the state of the country

LakeTiticaca · 21/06/2024 18:50

They all have their snouts in the same trough, and anyone who doesn't believe this is living in cloud cuckoo land

Fargo79 · 21/06/2024 18:52

You want accountability but you don't want to hear that the Tories are responsible for decimating the country? Or you think that Labour should falsely claim responsibility for damage that was done in the last 14 years?

Saying "the Tories have spent 14 years systematically destroying our economy and public services so it's going to take us a significant amount of time to put things right" is being realistic and truthful, it's not making excuses or deflecting.

Nat6999 · 21/06/2024 18:52

The Tories have been blaming Labour for 14 years. Labour have every right to blame them for the state the country is in, the state of the NHS is entirely their fault, add in Brexit, Boris & his fiddles & lies, Liz Truss, the PPE scandal, that's only a few reasons to blame them. Labour are going to have to start by clearing up all the crap that the Conservatives have left before they can move the country to a better place.

CheshireCat1 · 21/06/2024 18:53

I don’t think they should blame the Tory government, just blame those that voted for them.

Hayliebells · 21/06/2024 18:55

Shouldn't the people who caused a shit show, be blamed for the shit show? Who would you prefer they blame? Fairies? Aliens? Foreigners?

Onelovelyone · 21/06/2024 18:56

Who else should they blame after 14 years of a Conservative government? It is their choices that have led to the situation we are in.

nocoolnamesleft · 21/06/2024 18:57

Labour are eminently reasonably going to be able to blame the Tories for some years for comprehensively fucking everything up. Because they have, and it will take time to turn it around.

user1471556818 · 21/06/2024 18:58

TwattyMcFuckFace · 21/06/2024 18:03

Every government blames the previous one 🤷‍♂️

Absolutely

LittlePudding1 · 21/06/2024 18:59

Of course they are and they would be correct.
The tories have massively fucked things up for this country, fact!!
