General election 2024

Are Labour just going to blame 14 years of Tory rule for next few years?

Korner · 21/06/2024 18:00

No I am not Tory HQ. Probably only voting due to women’s suffrage. Might spoil ballot - haven’t decided.

But aren’t Labour just going to spend the next 0-3 years blaming 14 years of the Tories? Literally what the Conservatives did when they got in?

Already sick of it

Probably.

But the Tories still blame labour for a global financial crash in 2008 so 🤷🏻‍♀️

ExtraOnions · 21/06/2024 19:03

It will take Decades to recover from the Economic Impact of Brexit, and Liz Truss. Labour will, quite rightly, be ensuring that the Tories continue to ge held to account. They can’t all be like Cameron, Johnson & Truss.. make a mess of everting then skip into the sunset

greencartbluecart · 21/06/2024 18:06

Well who would you blame for the current mess? Which is worse than in equivalent countries before you try Covid / war/ climate change or anything else which affects everyone

The people who have had control for the last 14 years or ???

And do you think the current government is open and honest , books on the table for all to study ?

The 14 or however many million turkeys who don't do their political homework and keep voting along class lines for the same old false promises. That's who I blame.

The two-party system will keep delivering repeated cycles of the same old football-team politics as per the last 50 years.

Starmer is not the answer.

The Tories still do it

genesis92 · 21/06/2024 19:06

Yes this is what they are going to do. Yawn

I'm sorry the political and economic situation of the country bores you.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/06/2024 19:08

I dare say they will. ‘Tis the nature of the beast.

Actually, I largely blame Labour (part of it) for the fact that we had 14 Tory years and Brexit in the first place.
If they hadn’t been daft enough to let the more lefty Labour faction pick Ed Miliband, instead of David - I doubt we’d ever have had Cameron.

It was pretty obvious to most that unlike his brother, Ed was never going to be PM material, and that’s apart from the fact that while the U.K. electorate in general can go for slightly left of centre Labour, it doesn’t like anything further to the left. As Corbyn soon found out - and so we were landed with Boris. 😩

ghostyslovesheets · 21/06/2024 19:09

Starmer is not the answer this is another thing I find odd - you aren't voting for him (unless he's your MP) you are voting for a political party, a whole (massive!!) bunch of MP's who form a government, with a cabinet who make decision backed by advisers. He's not a dictator!

Gakpo · 21/06/2024 19:09

Well, I mean, yes, because it’s their fault. Unless you think Labour can solve it all overnight - they’ve already made it clear it’ll take a decade.

Nothing - and I mean nothing - works properly.

What is your answer then?
PR? Dictatorship?
Or Sunak, Davey, Farage, Denyer?

Politics is about reality. We have a democracy, you choose between the available options.

bridgetreilly · 21/06/2024 19:13

Yes. And they will have a point, in that lots of things are inevitably slow to change and slower to have an impact.

Anonymouseposter · 21/06/2024 19:14

To be fair things are going to take a lot of sorting out and I wouldn't expect to see rapid improvement.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/06/2024 19:15

They will yes, and they’ll be right. But let’s hope they don’t leave the country in the same mess (when they’re ousted in about 15 years) that they did at the end of their last go at it.

Korner · 21/06/2024 19:17

bergamotorange · 21/06/2024 18:34

Because you are young or because you couldn't be arsed to engage in politics?

Age and living abroad.

Actually no one hope that they don't just blame the tories

I hope and expect they will make some useful changes

Acceptance that the system needs to be reformed drastically and revolution needs to happen.

Cue 27 smart comments about pitchforks and guillotines, but the system is outdated, irredeemably broken and needs upgrading.

BonifaceBonanza · 21/06/2024 19:19

Surely it would be pretty valid for them to say that in the first few years?

SlothOnARope · 21/06/2024 19:20

And no we don't have a democracy. We have a partial democracy, see the 20+ million votes wasted at every GE under fptp.

Needafriend14 · 21/06/2024 19:21

It will take at least a decade to sort out this shit show !! Watch the interview with Gary Neville and Kier Starmer

TinySmol · 21/06/2024 19:21

Spoiling a ballot helps no one. In fact, it's an ignorant thing to do. Look at the countries where people are clamouring for democracy.

Also, the Tories are still blaming Labour after 14 years in power. Gaslighting fascists. Can't wait to see the back of them.

EasternStandard · 21/06/2024 19:26

Probably whether Labour can deliver I guess we’ll see

Is your opinion.

I’m noting my dissatisfaction with the available candidates and the system in general.

You're rejecting the chance to have a say in your own government. Look at places like Iran, Afghanistan and North Korea where no one gets a vote and people are frightened to speak out.
You are making a farce of a democratic system, which, while not perfect or entirely fair, is the basis of a civilised society.
I stand by my assertion that to spoil a vote is ignorant.

Oh but Korner, you're young - you are the future of the country.

Freshly back from living overseas surely there is someone you can engage with? None of us really agree totally with everything about the party we will vote for but there is always one party who match our leanings closest. Surely in a manifesto there is something you can get behind? Or a local candidate who looks like they will serve your community?

If you've not been here then how can you be so dissatisfied with all the available candidates? You've no first hand experience of them or the country.

Look around your area. Look at the country in general. What do you want to see happen? Who do you think will do that?

A spoilt ballot changes nothing. A spoilt ballot means 'I don't want to vote for any one of them but I am handing power to other people to choose any of them.'

Have your say for the love of God or you will spend the next 5 years ruled by A N Other and will have done nothing to stop it.

Care enough to investigate it and stop worrying about whether Labour will or will not do something that isn't really a problem.

CasperGutman · 21/06/2024 19:48

If by some miracle the Tories got in again they'd be really screwed. Who would they blame? Half their strategy in the last year or more has been to dig out traps for their successors!
