General election 2024

Are Labour just going to blame 14 years of Tory rule for next few years?

No I am not Tory HQ. Probably only voting due to women’s suffrage. Might spoil ballot - haven’t decided.

But aren’t Labour just going to spend the next 0-3 years blaming 14 years of the Tories? Literally what the Conservatives did when they got in?

Already sick of it

Not saying this is a reason to vote Tory just I’m already pissed off at the fact we as country never get ANY accountability.

It seems a bit weird to start slating Labour for something they haven’t actually done yet, tbf.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/06/2024 18:02

Of course they are. And as soon as they’re in and have “seen the books” the promises they’ve made can be torn up.

Hatty65 · 21/06/2024 18:02

Do you expect them to fix everything instantly?

That seems pretty unreasonable. 14 years of huge Tory cuts in public services will certainly take some time to resolve. NHS and Education will hardly be sorted overnight, will they?

TwattyMcFuckFace · 21/06/2024 18:03

Every government blames the previous one 🤷‍♂️

It’s just knowing that it is inevitable. They all just blame each other and it makes my piss boil.

Of course they are. Every increase , every rise …. EVERYTHING will be the fault of the Tories.

And no … this is not Rishi.

I am a floating voter .

Taffeta · 21/06/2024 18:04

lol at expecting any government to fix this utter shitshow in anything less than 5 years

Hedgeoffressian · 21/06/2024 18:04

They will suddenly reveal the tax rises they have been denying and will blame it on the Tories.

Kinshipug · 21/06/2024 18:05

Yes, probably. And mostly it will be justified. How can the current state of things not be down to the Tories after 14 years?

CurlewKate · 21/06/2024 18:05

Well, the Tories are responsible for the economic situation we find ourselves in. So obviously, their record is relevant.

greencartbluecart · 21/06/2024 18:06

Well who would you blame for the current mess? Which is worse than in equivalent countries before you try Covid / war/ climate change or anything else which affects everyone

The people who have had control for the last 14 years or ???

And do you think the current government is open and honest , books on the table for all to study ?

Korner · 21/06/2024 18:08

It’s just all the British people ever get are excuses. It hacked me off when the Tories did it and it will hack me off when Labour inevitably do it.

Blackcats7 · 21/06/2024 18:08

It is not a case of using the damage done as any sort of excuse but reality is that the country is in a terrible state and absolutely everything is broken. I would fully expect it to take one or even two full government terms to rebuild us.
KS knows this full well and so is careful not to over promise. Yes there may be things labour want to do that won’t happen for a while but at least there is effort and hope there. After 14 years who can really believe the tories can fix anything? They don’t even acknowledge their mistakes, it’s the usual lie, deny and divert blame. Not a shred of integrity between them.

PandoraSox · 21/06/2024 18:10

I love the smell of Tory desperation on a Friday evening!

For the first year or two Labour will be quite right to point out the utter heap of shite it has inherited.

EarthlyNightshade · 21/06/2024 18:10

My Tory voting MIL said the other day that the Tories did not have long enough to fix all the damage that Labour had done last time they were in, so she's hoping they'll get another term.

I’ve literally never voted before!

What is the difference between an excuse and an explanation?

CassandraWebb · 21/06/2024 18:17

Well why the hell shouldnt they. Liz ripped a huge hole in the economy overnight for starters.

This.
I'd rather a note saying 'there's no money' than one saying 'there's no money, infrastructure OR public services'.

AmelieTaylor · 21/06/2024 18:19

0-3 years??

you're very optimistic!!

DuncinToffee · 21/06/2024 18:26

I am sure they will also blame some of it on Covid and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Maybe the Tories will be so kind to leave a note when they depart.

ICantThinkofAnythingClever · 21/06/2024 18:27

I mean... they haven't said that yet, but if they did... they'd be right, no? It is the actual factual truth that the 14 years of Tory rule have been shit, especially more recently.

What would you want them to say? "Thanks, friends, for handing over the ruins of public services"?

LyndaLaHughes · 21/06/2024 18:27

EarthlyNightshade · 21/06/2024 18:10

I'd love to know what they "fixed" given they have been the ones breaking everything for the last 14 years. I cannot believe people actually think like this is the face of such obvious evidence to the contrary.

The damage that has been done will take years to fix - the Tories will no doubt blame Labour for the mess for the next few years. People will be stupid enough to believe it. But anyone who cannot see the damage the Tories have done during their tenure must be blind. Just look at our public services and check your own bank balance for a start. I can't wait to see them annihilated. Nothing but a self-serving, incompetent, corrupt bunch of contemptuous liars who have laughed all the way to the bank lining their own pockets and that of their mates whilst blaming immigrants and the poor for their mess. I despise them.
