If you're an undecided voter, what are the issues that are stopping you from deciding?

As an 'undecided voter', I was watching the Sky News interviews last night and felt myself warming more toward KS. When he started talking honestly about the possible impact on his kids...he suddenly seemed really human, a dad who wanted to pursue this opportunity but wanted to protect his children from the worst of it. However, I'm still undecided.

My politics are usually centre/middle and over the years I've voted Tory and Labour...basically whichever party I felt most aligned with my values.

All I know for sure is that I don't want more of the same and while I am definitely warming to Labour (as well as my local candidate who seems nice) I'm not keen on some others within the party.

I worry that by voting in the seemingly nice people, that it's a door opened to something I can't get on board with. You could equally say the same of the Tories though!!

So I'm wondering if there's any other 'undecided voters' out there (from any side of politics) and what are the issues/policies that are preventing you from being able to make a decision?

I will be voting for "not the tories". So fully decided on voting for whoever is likely to come in at number 2 in my area to get the slightest chance of ousting them. We are generally considered to be a safe tory seat though, so it probably won't work

As a teacher I vote Labour.

As the owner of daughter I do not vote Labour.

Owner of a daughter? I have two daughters and I certainly don't own them!

paasll · 15/06/2024 18:41

I can't vote. There is nobody I can vote for and keep my conscience clean. I didn't vote last time and I am planning not to vote this time. My dh and ds are both currently planning to vote lib dem.

Regarding labour, I am concerned about their money raising plans.

It's something like 5bn from non doms. It just seems so implausible and vague. It's the single largest source of money that they plan to tap.

It does seem "nice" to have plans to spend money on health, education, whatever. But that money must be found. And I don't think their plans to find it hold up.

ElephantsDontReadFantasy · 15/06/2024 18:45

There’s no politician who gives me confidence that I can vote for.

The conservatives need to go, despite their local candidate being the only one to reply to correspondence.

Labour do nothing to inspire trust and I don’t believe they align with me in terms of protecting women’s rights or closing the wealth gap.

Greens and Lib Dems both seem to have lost the plot.

I don’t align with reform.

I honestly do not believe any of them have it in them to focus on doing the hard stuff that needs tackling.

I really have no idea who to vote for. The boundaries have changed here, and tbh our last MP was Conservative and very good. They have now put two small towns together, which are extremely different and have very different industries - going to be interesting to see who wins here.

It appears that Labour policies are not well thought out or costed properly, and a bit 'fuck the rich' - when it will only really affect the middle class. I was still tempted to vote for them just to get the current government out. However, the Labour candidate hasn't bothered to visit my local town or any of the villages. Then I saw a post on their social media, all the 'rural policies' (the town near me is very rural) were terrible - infact over half of them are already law (I know this for a fact), so I came to the conclusion they had 0 policies to support rural.communities and the candidate was relying on the ignorance of the general public to very niche things. The other half were not policies that would support rural communities.

So, currently trying to find out about the 2 independent candidates. One appears to be a conspiracy theorist, and I am struggling to find out about the other.

I may end up spoiling my ballot, and frankly, I imagine quite a few people will, and this will show. Low turnout can be attributed to many reasons, large amounts of spoiled ballots show that people are not happy overall with any politicians.

For reference, I traditionally have voted Lib Dem, but will not vote for them this time around.

YellowMeeple · 15/06/2024 18:56

I am really struggling with this. I live in a Lib Dem /Conservative constituency and have always voted Lib Dem, but I really don’t think I can due to their views on women’s rights. Up until a few weeks ago I had resigned myself to voting Tory and I do like our current local MP, but I am
also furious about their ridiculous national service proposal, so now I just feel completely stuck.

I've just posted on another thread about who someone like me is supposed to vote for. I was thinking of voting labour but the lack of response to the violence against one of his female colleagues has solidified that women's rights won't be protected by KS.

But I just don't see which party shares my values at all.

To everyone saying they won't vote this just incenses me. It wasn't that long ago women were throwing themselves under horses for a woman's right to vote. Anyone who doesn't do so, due to apathy, or not being able to make their minds up, do the research and make a decision.

To all women who don't vote on 04/07 hang your heads in shame.

This completely misses the point. I genuinely believe the women's suffrage movement would be struggling with the exact same issues many of us on this thread have referred to - no party is standing up for women AND offering a credible future of restoration of public services.

Meadowfinch · 15/06/2024 19:24

Policies on planning,
sustainability/environment,
women's rights & protections, and
secondary/tertiary education.

Still undecided. 🙁

Pourmeanotherwine · 16/06/2024 09:11

I've never not voted. If you dont vote for the "least worst" option, you cant complain if the "worst" option get in.
You'll never find a party where every single policy fits your hopes and values, so you just vote for the best fit.

Peeppuandpopo · 16/06/2024 09:40

@antshouse why not vote Tory then. If you’re happy with the country as it is why be ashamed to admit that ?

antshouse · 16/06/2024 11:36

I have never voted Tory and not about to start after the recent fiascos.
But I cannot vote for any party that won't support women and girls single sex access to prisons or refuges either.
Green party seem to have lost their way too so still undecided.

GameOfJones · 16/06/2024 11:50

The issues that are making me undecided are that I cannot vote for Labour, Lib Dems or Greens because of the gender ID bollocks and the fact I think women's rights will be eroded underneath them. As the mother of daughters I cannot in good conscience vote for any party that supports self ID.

But we need change. I have been considering voting Conservative but am very unhappy with the in fighting and can't forgive the partying during lockdown.

My local Social Democratic Party candidate knocked on the door yesterday. I have to say I knew almost nothing about the SDP but he seemed a sensible man and was able to tell me what a woman is. We discussed their pledge to protect women's single sex spaces in prisons, hospitals, sports etc and he explained they want to improve public services, renationalise utility companies etc. I don't know, but he seemed a nice man and spoke some sense so I will be researching his party a bit more.

I totally agree that I don't feel enthusiastic about voting for any party. But I will definitely vote, I would rather spoil my ballot than abstain.

You probably don't need to worry about their national service proposal as you'd be voting for them to be the opposition, not the actual government, in reality.

The right to vote. Not the obligation.

I didn't vote in 2019.
Seriously - Bojo or Corbyn. NO.
They didn't throw themselves under horse so I could vote for that shite.

I will not hang my head in shame for not voting.

I think the system needs a major overhaul and my lack of vote reflects that.

I don't care if you don't like that, and I certainly won't hang my head in shame.

I bet, whoever you vote for, there will be many reasons for you to hang your head in shame - contained in the manifestos. Why don't you research that.

Validus · 16/06/2024 13:41

@Pritas i can go with that.

i appreciate all the endorsements, but I’m afraid I will never stand. Too many family skeletons (not mine, but I love my family members too much to endanger them) that would no doubt be aired and picked over like carrion by the media! That’s the other problem with modern politics of course.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 16/06/2024 14:08

I can't vote for a party that will hand womens rights to single sex spaces to any man who wants them so can't vote Labour, lib dem or green. Don't want the tories though our current mp despite being a completely self serving bastard has managed to get funding into the constituency. So that leaves workers party or reform. Can I run away screaming now please.

@BaronessEllarawrosaurus Do you have a SDP candidate in your constituency? They're GC.

No, my options are only tory, Labour, lib dem, green, reform or workers. I don't even have an independent i can vote for.

Cornishclio · 16/06/2024 16:46

I like the Lib Dem manifesto but realistically they won't get in. I like some of both Labour and Conservatives manifesto but hate my current Tory MP and she is unfortunately standing again. So who knows 🤷‍♀️

I find it amazing the reasons people find to vote or not vote for a certain party. I always have and always will vote on a belief system.
If you believe in a hierarchical society where the better off flourish and keep their wealth then vote Tory.
If you believe in a more socialist system whereby the poor and more vulnerable in society are looked after by those that can afford it contributing more then you vote Labour.
It really is that simple.

This.

Dancingontheedge · 16/06/2024 19:33

For those that want a protest vote, the Official Monster Raving Loony Party appear to be gender critical.

Not standing in my constituency. If they were, they would have my vote. As it is, I’m not voting.

Curlewwoohoo · 16/06/2024 20:50

My issue is local vs national. Nationally I would be happy enough for labour to get in. Locally it's either Lib dem who are most likely to unseat the tory fella, or do I vote green who I know personally and I know works very hard. Labour have put up a paper candidate here so that's no good.
