General election 2024

If you're an undecided voter, what are the issues that are stopping you from deciding?

As an 'undecided voter', I was watching the Sky News interviews last night and felt myself warming more toward KS. When he started talking honestly about the possible impact on his kids...he suddenly seemed really human, a dad who wanted to pursue this opportunity but wanted to protect his children from the worst of it. However, I'm still undecided.

My politics are usually centre/middle and over the years I've voted Tory and Labour...basically whichever party I felt most aligned with my values.

All I know for sure is that I don't want more of the same and while I am definitely warming to Labour (as well as my local candidate who seems nice) I'm not keen on some others within the party.

I worry that by voting in the seemingly nice people, that it's a door opened to something I can't get on board with. You could equally say the same of the Tories though!!

So I'm wondering if there's any other 'undecided voters' out there (from any side of politics) and what are the issues/policies that are preventing you from being able to make a decision?

If you’re in a swing seat your vote will make a difference. Use it to put pressure on Labour to legally protect biological women’s rights.

Why swing voters could deny Labour an election landslide

Because letting the lying Tories back in is t(e best thing for women’s rights? Ffs.
If Labour don’t win those seats, the Tories get back in. If they were going to change legislation in the way you would like, they’d have already done it. They are lying to you, and behind that lie they are damaging the life prospects (and actually endangering the lives) of lots of vulnerable women and girls.
How can you be so blind?

YeahWhateverGoAway · 24/06/2024 18:38

This is why these posts end up being a nightmare. Anyone who dares say they are voting for Tories are called blind. Anyone who mentions reform are called racists.

Labour should be walking this election and instead they're likely to get in because Tories are worse. It's utterly shite with the crop of politicians at the moment.

And I still may vote Tories, because to me, the gender issue is a massive one for me. That doesn't make me blind, it makes me have different priorities to others. But what doesn't make me switch to Labour is being told I'm blind/an idiot blah blah blah.

Scruffily · 24/06/2024 18:54

I just don't understand how anyone who claims to be a feminist can possibly contemplate voting Conservative, given their record, Even the failures that aren't overtly anti-feminist end up impinging disproportionately on women, for example the dreadful child poverty figures, the massive failures in SEND provision, and the utter disaster that is social care.

I equally don't understand how they get any credit on the gender issue, given that they relaxed the law on getting GRCs and have done nothing to improve the situation despite having had 14 years to achieve that. Starmer has made it perfectly clear that Labour would protect women's spaces and women's safety, and indeed he has a good personal track record in the latter connection.

motheronthedancefloor · 24/06/2024 19:03

My constituency is in Scotland. It will be either SNP or Labour who win here. Anything else is a wasted vote.
I don't support independence nor the SNPs stance on gender ideology. I don't like how they have f*cked up everything whilst in government at Holyrood. Our current SNP MP is never to be seen.
I would normally vote Labour but I find Keir so wooden. I don't like Angela Raynor at all. (nothing to do with class as I'm a similar background). The manifesto is very 'meh' and I don't agree with their stance on Gender Ideology.
Our Labour candidate is a local guy, quite active in the council, MIL knows him through her work and says he's quite decent.
I might hold my nose and vote Labour just to get the SNP out.

If Labour stopped choosing to be complete fucking twats over women's rights this wouldn't be an issue, would it?

Stop berating women for not wanting to vote for a party which has complete contempt for us and our rights, and start bothering Labour about their misogyny.

Saying you'll protect women's rights is quite different to explaining how you'll actually do it, especially when you still can't explain what you think a woman is. Words are cheap but their manifesto makes it clear that they will prioritise women with penises over women without penises. Woke misogyny is really not all that different to traditional misogyny, when all's said and done.

Another thing that struck me over the last few days is Labour's manifesto promise to "halve VAWG". That's right Kier, reach for the stars. Lots of VAWG is unacceptable but half that amount is just fine and dandy.

What do you want him to say? That they’ll eliminate it? Because we all know that’s impossible, don’t we? The Tories haven’t even mentioned it.

We know what the Labour Party and Keir Starmer thinks of biological women by the appalling way they have treated their MP Rosie Duffield for just standing up for women’s rights and declaring biological facts. This shows us biological women (51% of the population) what will happen to us when Labour is in power and in thrall of the TRAs. What’s the point of an economy, education, healthcare etc if biological women become second class citizens with diminished rights under a Labour government. IMO and for many other women this is the most important issue of the whole election and we will use our votes to let Labour know this.

Go ahead. Labour’s not going to miss your vote. Please tell me why, if women will become second class citizens with diminished rights under a Labour government, it has many female MPs, including half its cabinet. And if that’s the case why is Rosie Duffield still a Labour MP when there are several other parties that would welcome her?

I'd rather they said they'll aim for a consistent reduction or something along those lines, rather than imply that half the current amount will be job done, nothing more to see here. And we all know they won't halve it anyway. They'll just make sure the number of recorded/reported incidents is half what it is now. Call me a cynic but I don't trust a word they say.

Zyq · 24/06/2024 22:54

Starmer has a track record when he was DPP of increasing successful rape prosecutions. I'd be prepared to give him credit for fully intending to do his level best to reduce VAWG. The manifesto sets out the steps they would take to achieve this.

Scruffily · 24/06/2024 22:58

Which part of the manifesto says this?

They need to know what a woman is before they can hope to achieve anything. KS apparentIy didn't until Tony Blair explained it to him recently.

I have not. They've stated their aim several times in the last few days. Bridget said it on the LK show yesterday. Their aim is to halve VAWG.

That doesn’t mean “job done, nothing to see here” if they achieve it. It’s the minimum they’re aiming for. 🙄

The Tories have trashed the country.

Labour, LibDems and Greens are willing to give away women's rights to males. The man canvassing for Labour was unable to give a sensible definition of a woman when I asked for one. He blustered and spluttered for a bit until I shut the door in his face

Not at all sure what I will do on 4 July. I don't believe a word of any of their manifestos.

This.

Yes words matter. And you’re reading far more into those words than they mean. Like I said, it’s your inference. Most people know exactly what’s meant.

"And what the point in any of it if there’s no health service or education service or housing or anything else?"

And if you think that the health service, education or housing is going to be really any different under Labour then you are going to be disappointed because there just isn't the money available as Liz Truss found out the hard way.

Liz Truss didn’t find it out, she made it worse.
There’s been a lot of waste and money being funnelled in the wrong direction. That at least will change. The Tories are lying, law breaking, selfish gits who need to be gone now.
