General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

It looks like I actually won't vote for the first time in my life. I want the Tories out and that seems like a foregone conclusion, my Labour MP's seat is safe.

I think the country will be in safer hands with Labour but I want them to know they can't take my vote for granted and that I dont trust them on a number of important issues.

LauderSyme · 10/06/2024 21:56

Somebody upthread asked whether Reform actually have any policies?

Richard Tice (Reform's leader until Nigel barged in) says they want net zero immigration. I don't understand who they think will do all the work in future to earn the wealth to support Britain's aging population. There are simply not enough unemployed people here to put to work to maintain our current GDP, never mind increase it.

He also says they want to reform the NHS. He means they want to abolish it and introduce US style healthcare insurance.

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 10/06/2024 21:57

Urgh. Where to start.

I don't like Kier. I watch his speeches and he says the right things and I'm almost won over but then he says very much the wrong thing at other times. Voting for him doesn't sit right with me. If Angela Raynor or Jess Phillips were in charge I think they'd have my vote.

I normally vote Lib Dem's but where the fuck have they been?

Green Party have really impressed me but I think it's a wasted vote.

I'm in Northampton south who are/were strongly conservative but hopefully that will change. I can't believe this lying bunch of toe rags are still in power and stand a chance.

Justnevergetsthere · 10/06/2024 21:57

Labour

Seaitoverthere · 10/06/2024 21:58

I want current Conservative MP with the best part of 20k majority out so will be voting Labour. We do have a Reform candidate who I hope may split the Tory vote. We’ve also had a boundary change that I think might go in Labour’s favour plus a lot of people moving in which could have changed the demographic a bit.

My Stepmum usually votes Conservative but voting Labour this time . She used to like Farage but said today she thinks he has lost the plot.

GoogleWhacking · 10/06/2024 22:02

@G123456789 procurement initially brought in by Tories as a drive to improve efficiency. www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-analysis/long-reads/what-commissioning-and-how-it-changing Procurement means you have to have managers running contracts. It also means that you have lots of private companies running NHS services and charging a minimum 10% "profit margin". You are very much mistaken if you think privatisation will solve the issue of managers.

Bringing health back into the public domain with NHS trusts responsible for health services is what is needed

I'll be voting Labour.

Justkeepswiimming · 10/06/2024 22:02

To all those who don't want immigration. Currently for every 3 working adults, there is one pensioner. Soon this will be for every 2 working adults there will be 1 pensioner. We have an aging population that has to be supported by someone. And we don't have enough working adults in this country alone..... so either we start taxing pensions, allow people to come into the country to work. Or preferably both.

I think it's depressing that someone can be so uninformed and disinterested.

I'd go so far as to say that working in the civil service, not knowing who is in charge is a dereliction of duty

whatnnoww · 10/06/2024 22:03

Starmer seems scared to tell us what his policies are in case it costs him votes .

I was extremely unimpressed with his debate performance.

NealBrose · 10/06/2024 22:05

Labour. I'm desperate to have a competent party in that wants to give us a more equal society. Kier is dull but intelligent and principled. When Rachel Reeves and Wes Streeting speak, they sound convincing. It won't be an overnight change because everything is such a mess and the economy is buggered but I trust them to work in our interests, not their own.

I can understand people wanting to vote for Reform like they voted for Brexit. Things suck and people are desperate for change. But like Brexit, Reform will promise much, but have no clear plan and so will make a giant mess that will deliver fuck all for anyone but the rich whilst sewing division.

Edited

Some pensions are taxed already

@NCNC10000009 You could do no worse than to try this and see which party aligns closest with your personal views and feelings. Bear in mind that this is awaiting an update for 2024!!

Very helpful, thank you @Rainbow1901

Those voting Labour, can I ask if that’s because you genuinely believe in Keir Starmer and his policies or because you just want conservatives out?

I genuinely believe in Labour.
I'm voting for the party, not the person.
I'm red through and through - always have been!

JustBec · 10/06/2024 22:09

Plaid. I’m in a Labour safe seat though, so can vote with my heart and conscience. Never, ever Conservative and Reform is a company, not a party, and I’d rather be hung by my hair over a vat of boiling oil than vote for them.

MovingMad87 · 10/06/2024 22:09

Labour

ATribeCalledQuestion · 10/06/2024 22:10

I shall be voting tactically Not Tory. In my constituency that means Labour.

kikisparks · 10/06/2024 22:11

SNP

Starlightstarbright3 · 10/06/2024 22:15

I heard Lib Dem which sounded great till it said we would rejoin the Eu . I voted to stay but that ship has sailed

Nanny0gg · 10/06/2024 22:16

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 20:55

I've never voted in my life. I don't even know who is currently in power- labour or conservative. Ive no idea. It means nothing to me. I'm a civil servant. No I'm not a troll. Just being honest.
I would like to understand more but I Just don't have the headspace

HOW can you be a Civil servant and not know who is in government?

And do you NEVER watch or read news? Does no-one you know ever discuss current affairs?

How old are you out of interest?

And it does mean something to you. Government touches everything
Food prices
Healthcare
Education
Water
Utilities
Transport
Police

Your actual job!!!

Starlightstarbright3 · 10/06/2024 22:16

I am in a very conservative area though so probably labour as it’s probably got higher sucess posibility

PennyPugwash · 10/06/2024 22:18

Labour

But hate them all.
Just the lesser of the evils (and I'm not even fully convinced of that!)

Videopainic · 10/06/2024 22:19

I heard a lady on sky news saying she's not surprised by macrons move :prices are high, living standards down and so on.

We are tall facing the same issues.

I dont want a pm who disrespects our war dead

Keir Starmer and Anas Sawar removed their poppies to record videos on Islamophobia - seemingly on the same day:

@Clavinova please don't be an apolgist for Sunak using the Daily Express. A tabloid in the back pocket of the Tories. I'd believe the word of a serial liar over anything they wrote.
