General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

Labour to get the Tories out. Otherwise would have voted Green.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 12/06/2024 13:19

And that's why I agree with proportional representation rather than FPP. When you vote, you know it counts.

It doesn't.

We have PR in Scotland and have been stuck with an SNP government since 2007.

The votes of Labour, Tory, Libdem (and sometimes Green) voters count for no more under PR than they would under first past the post.

Petesbowtie9 · 12/06/2024 13:47

Conservative - had their shot
Labour - not until Hell freezes over
Greens and Libs - not with their current policies on trans ideology
Reform - might have to

Northernnature · 12/06/2024 13:52

@HappiestSleeping some good points. I think Brexit was about having decisions made closer to the people rather than economics and we have actually got terrible politicians partly because they are not used to making decisions. All costly projects like Brexit and lockdowns should have to be costed by independent experts at the start (together with any benefits) although forecasts shouldn't be relied on too much as they are usually massively wrong. Either way the EU has moved on since 2016 and I think Starmer and Lammy are going to have a shock dealing with the more right wing/conservative ones now in place.

Unphased · 12/06/2024 13:58

Lets be honest, Labour are going to form the next government, so please people vote for who you actually want in your area, you never know it might make a difference, rather than this two party situation we have now, just remember Tories won seats in the north that they have never won before, so let’s vote for the party and polices you want, and not vote for a party you don’t want to get them out, you never know you might have a surprise, in our area there is some very strong independent candidates

CrushingOnRubies · 12/06/2024 14:05

Tempted with Lib Dem

Time for change so not Tory and won't vote Labour

CrushingOnRubies · 12/06/2024 14:24

How about Mebyon Kernow - Dick Cole has worked tirelessly for over 25 years for Cornwall.

Don't think MK are contesting any seats this time round .

They aren't in Falmouth & Truro, St ives or Camborne & Redruth. North Cornwall. And according to the bbc website Dick Cole isn’t running for St Austell and Newquay either. No one is

Otherwise I'd be tempted to vote for them

Labtastic · 12/06/2024 14:36

Lib Dem here - they're the only ones capable of kicking our local Tory out.

How does that work then? I thought PR meant each vote was counted like in a referendum.

Unphased · 12/06/2024 14:38

Labtastic But who do you actually want to vote for?

DeadButDelicious · 12/06/2024 14:46

I want to vote Lib Dem, ideally Green but realistically, in my constituency, the only chance to oust the tories is to vote Labour, so I will be lending them my vote as I want rid of this terrible government.

I am hopeful that at some point in the future we will finally have PR and my vote will actually mean something rather than merely choosing the least worst option.

I've just looked it up. You appear to have a hybrid FPP and PR system in Scotland. What I'm referring to in proper PR where each vote counts - eg if a party gets 20% of the vote they get 20% of the seats etc.

WestEndWindy · 10/06/2024 20:48

I don't think any one party has to meet all your points of view. Eliminate the ones that absolutely turn your stomach (looking at you Reform) then work out priorities versus tactics?

Try this and see how you compare uk.isidewith.com

I tried that and came out 82% Anarcho-Communist, which is pleasingly Pythonesque.

Standingchair1 · 12/06/2024 16:08

If Rishi Sunak was the leader of the Labour Party that’s where my vote would go.

"Are you the Mumsnet Women's Front?"

"Fuck off, we're the Women's Front of Mumsnet" 😜

Heavens above. Why? He's hardly done much for the Conservative party or for the country. He was even the Conservatives own second choice behind Liz Truss. I concede he did last longer as PM than she did.

emmetgirl · 12/06/2024 17:15

Labour.

This is one of the strangest opinions about the GE that I’ve seen… so far.

SquirrelHash · 12/06/2024 20:59

Fair enough - not my view but you like Rishi but want him to be more left or not Tory. Valid.

CassieMaddox · 12/06/2024 23:27

Labour. I think Starmer is very competent and will take dull but competent over exciting but incompetent/a liar/insane (or whatever the Tories pick next).

I feel like we could all do with a few years of boring, competent government. Who knows, it might even encourage some businesses to invest in the UK.

Gladanotthwrteamonesomething · 13/06/2024 05:53

@Wheresyourvote

You don't say who you are voting for?

Hello Mrs Sunak.

Or is it Sunak's mum?

There may be a surprise yet. The last time labour were predicted to win they didn't. Your son/husband may win.

Katypp · 13/06/2024 08:24

EffortlesslyInelegant · 10/06/2024 20:43

Perfectly possible to understand that but I will remain perplexed until the day I die why anyone of presumably sound mind would vote for racism and hatred. There's quite enough of that already.
Good old Brexit Nigel with his German passport and European kids does not give a shit about you. Not that any of them give a shit about you but he especially doesn't.

So you don't understand that people may vote differently to you?
Or you want to virtue signal about how righteous and caring you are?
Which is it?
*This post is to every pp who seemingly can't just answer the question without doing the wide-eyed 'I can't understand' schtick.

SDP

I really wish the SDP had a candidate here. I'd love the opportunity to vote for them.

flyingvisit · 13/06/2024 15:44

Conservative. I'd like to keep our business.
