Anyone fancy a discussion thread?

When Penny isn't speaking and the camera cuts to her face she has the most awful grimacing/bad tempered face, it's not helping how she comes across.

I'm thinking the Lib Dems have come out of this better than I expected.

She's been called all sorts by people that don't appear to like strong, independent, vocal, determined women which is definitely something Rayner is.

The rudest people are Mordaunt and Farage. Those two are rude, aggressive and lying.

People often say this but they clearly have not thought it through as many of the Tory female MPs are fierce, intelligent, strong, vocal etc.

BIossomtoes · 07/06/2024 20:56

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2024 20:47

I think Rayner is being quite restrained, actually. She is waiting her turn and not shouting. It's unconscious bias that people think she is loud and brash.

She was a hell of a lot more restrained than I’d have been. The provocation level was so high.

BastardisMendacem · 07/06/2024 20:58

For me:

Farage was about what I expected.
The Wales guy didn't make an impact
Daisy Cooper was good and I hadn't heard her before so had no expectations
SNP guy was OK occasionally too (though, I am no SNP fan)
The Greens were OK
Angela did well, better than I expected.
Penny was a lot worse than I expected

It's not unconscious bias. It's that she's just dreadful. An 'abstract failure' - to quote her directly.

Did she actually say that?! 😂

winewolfhowls · 07/06/2024 20:58

Also impressed with Denyer for the Greens but I can't seem to think of them as a 'serious' party.

Jellykat · 07/06/2024 20:58

DC is good, pity Ed Davey is a wet flannel

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/06/2024 20:59

Angela raynor- brilliant, in touch, intelligent and articulate.

Mordaunt- dire, aggressive, irritating, lying, out of touch, rude, desperate shouty. Liar, liar, liar.

Farage- pathetic, desperate, disgrace

BastardisMendacem · 07/06/2024 20:59

Also, thought Mishal did a far better job than the ITV chair the other night

Daisy sounds like she just passed Lamda level 1. It just sounds very rehearsed and stiff. Lots of emphasis and hands. Possibly just lack of experience though. .

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/06/2024 20:54

Mordaunt was dire.

She wasn't dire she was eloquent..
Angela Rayner on the world stage , I don't think so , fishwife .

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2024 21:00

I don't need an autocue - oh, fuck off, Farage.

Misogynistic and classist insults now?

Seriously?

BastardisMendacem · 07/06/2024 21:01

Thanks everyone for the (mostly) good humoured and respectful debate!

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/06/2024 21:01

Mordaunt eloquent? Are you taking the piss on purpose?

Tracker1234 · 07/06/2024 21:02

Why didn’t anyone shake Farage’s hand. Angela and Penny seemed rather pally!

ThePerfectDog · 07/06/2024 21:02

What makes you say fishwife?

blue345 · 07/06/2024 21:02

Yep, her and the green lady aren't natural public speakers. Daisy looks like a school prefect reading off their notes at speech day.

Lovely bit of misogyny there. Well done.

I agree with you, although I think Penny squashed Angela on the energy question. After that, wasn’t so good.

Angela - didn’t feel strong to be. Did okay, but didn’t quite convince me.

SDP bloke - impressed me (although also not SNP fan)

Think our Penny has had a bad night, Ange has been good, and Nige I hate to admit has been 'good', in that the git is a good communicator and knows how to perform.

Its easy to come across as a good communicator if you can lie with a straight face.
See also Johnson.

Westfacing · 07/06/2024 21:04

Not bad overall, won't watch any more of them I don't think! But the 90 minutes sped by.

BluntFatball · 07/06/2024 21:05

Tracker1234 · 07/06/2024 21:02

Why didn’t anyone shake Farage’s hand. Angela and Penny seemed rather pally!

Immaturity and pettiness.

Probably also jealousy because he was clearly the better speaker (and I imagine would have had a much different reception had the audience been even remotely representative of the UK).

Yellowtrouser · 07/06/2024 21:06

I love the end. They shake hands but no-one goes near Nigel!

Westfacing · 07/06/2024 21:07

I think Penn's heart wasn't in it!
