Anyone fancy a discussion thread?

Immaturity and pettiness.

Probably also jealousy because he was clearly the better speaker (and I imagine would have had a much different reception had the audience been even remotely representative of the UK).

Edited

Ah yes - this was a BBC selected audience, right?

It was.

On the lighter side - quite a fashion and style mish mash. Mordant’s funny hair, Rayner in red and Green Party in green of course, Scottish looked like a security guard, Daisy had a smart and bright suit with a top that looked like it was some old formerly white top from the back of the cupboard 🤣

Don’t pile on this is just whimsy

Lonelycrab · 07/06/2024 21:09

Mordaunt is shouty and petulant.

Good that no one wants to shake hands with Farage. Who’d want to shake hands with that.

blue345 · 07/06/2024 21:09

Overall, I thought Rishi did better in his head to head the other night than Penny tonight. A bit robotic and unlikeable.

Angela doesn't come across as intelligent in the way she speaks (maybe she is and it's her speaking style but she looks a bit of a political lightweight beyond the insults).

1-0 to Nigel I suspect when the polls on tonight's debate come in.

I think they said representatively selected or something like at the beginning. It wasn’t the usual largely right wing crowd they get for Question Time

CassieMaddox · 07/06/2024 21:12

I enjoyed it. Was nice to hear from the other parties.
Rhun ap Iowerth was my favourite, unfortunately I don't live in Wales so I can't vote for them. But I loved what he said about honesty and holding the party to account.

I am now torn as to whether to stick with Labour or return to my Lib Dem natural home because I liked Daisy Cooper a lot.

Angela Rayner wasn't given a fair crack due to interrupting.

I was a bit meh about Carla Denyer but she totally owned Farage on the energy point. My 19 YO DS is thinking green is his vote and after listening to her I can see why.

Mordaunt shafted by the Conservative line, came across defensive and overly aggressive.

Farage is a frog faced fucker and lied as usual. I did enjoy Flynn owning him on Brexit.

Flynn a bit of an also ran for me as I'm English but if I were Scottish I'd definitely consider him. He's passionate and made good points.

I think the opposite about Angela. She easily made Penny look even worse than Penny made herself look🤣

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2024 21:13

I do think the dynamic would have been very different if Mordaunt had been next to Farage. She barely tackled him and he made swipes at Tories but pretty much left her alone.

Tracker1234 · 07/06/2024 21:14

Loved his statement saying he doesn’t need an autocue. Might use that phase myself in the future.

Whatever you think of Farage he is a very interesting politican who no one will admit on MN to voting for. One recent thread asked about whether they should date someone who voted Reform. Didnt like that audience either.

Another BBC bias.

It probably depends on who’s asked, ie which paper

I thought it messier than leader one in that the smaller parties are too removed from what’s feasible

SNP isn’t a party I’d go for but at least he said something about being realistic on what can be afforded

He's a liar who destroyed the UK for Russian money.

LaPalmaLlama · 07/06/2024 21:17

The thing is he’s not really lying. It’s a perspective I don’t agree with but some of what he says is true- one of the biggest challenges to climate mitigation is these fact that short term, the switchover to renewables will be more expensive for consumers and he’s also right that it’s highly unlikely the grid will be ready for 100% renewables by 2035. He’s also correct that we’ve largely exported our emissions.

Do I still think we should drive towards decarbonisation? Absolutely, so I disagree with his policies on that. Do I think he’s lying about the challenges? No.

Yellowtrouser · 07/06/2024 21:06

I love the end. They shake hands but no-one goes near Nigel!

But all that does is further encourage his “I’m not like the others” schtick, which helps him!

blue345 · 07/06/2024 21:19

The autocue comment was amusing, I bet the others hated it (none of them delivered their closing statements in a natural way).

Interesting that Farage's pitch was limited to being in opposition, thought he'd be pitching that no one has won until the votes are cast.

HelenHen · 07/06/2024 21:20

At what point do we stop pretending that farage is a politician. He's a saboteur, one we have allowed to disrupt the democratic process for long enough. He doesn't want to be an mp. He just wants the opportunity to spread his vicious shite to further divide society, because that's what he is being paid to do.

Well, he's never won a seat despite standing for Parliament 7 times so it's not just MN types who don't want to vote for him.

LaPalmaLlama · 07/06/2024 21:23

I feel like they should wait for the manifestos to have these debates. It’s kind of ridiculous that they don’t all have them ready to go. It’s not like they didn’t know an election was coming.

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/06/2024 21:26

Remember, liar Sunak said the election wasn't until November when he could fail to attend the remembrance service first.

I would have liked to hear about their manifestos but as the question said they promise everything and deliver nothing so maybe you just have to go with who you buy into .

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 07/06/2024 21:27

I thought Stephen Flynn was by far the best and clearest performer.
Carla Denyer seems genuinely lovely. Sincere, and decent. She seemed nervous (totally understandably) but held her nerve, and did pretty well overall.
I'm afraid I thought both Penny Mordant and Angela Raynor (who has sadly sold out) were pretty woeful.

Swingingvvoter · 07/06/2024 21:29

Phew, green cross over, good from labour.
Snp!.

MagnetCarHair · 07/06/2024 21:32

I can't imagine that one undecided voter has been won over by the Conservatives or Labour in these debates.

Umm - I think you mean left wing.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 21:38

It was better than the one on one debate.

Rayner did well, clear and communicated effectively.

Mordaunt did well with an absolutely stinker of a job which frankly no one sane would have taken on. She is very ambitious
