Anyone fancy a discussion thread?

I like Penny but the Conservatives are fucked and she knows it. I bet she's fucking furious with Rishi and doesn't agree with the lines she's having to spout.

I'm a traditional Labour voter but don't llike Angela at all, never have (I'm active in Unison so have met her several times).

Loathe the SNP - suspect the clappers are either SNP voters or English people who are ignorant of the fact its not all sunshine and daisies up here.

Zebresia25 · 07/06/2024 20:28

@gingercat02 Why do you dislike her?

She's everything non Labour voters dislike about Labour, rude, aggressive, and plays the professional Northerner too hard (I'm not English but have lived in he NE for 33 years, and consider myself an honorary Geordie)
She really grinds my gears

Cornettoninja · 07/06/2024 20:34

We really need to have mute buttons in these debates as standard.

BastardisMendacem · 07/06/2024 20:34

I'll be surprised if Mordaunt still has hers on July 5th.

Looks unlikely according to...

She's literally Northern. Professional northerner is an insult of derision doled out by those who have problems with the very idea that there is a North.

Springwatch123 · 07/06/2024 20:36

Thought the host is doing a decent job during this debate.

anythinginapinch · 07/06/2024 20:36

@gingercat02 haddaway and shite, Bonny lass. Honorary Geordie haha.
She's a clever articulate and strong woman. That's why people don't like her.

LaPalmaLlama · 07/06/2024 20:37

The problem with GB energy is that it’s just an investment vehicle- it is not a publicly owned energy company as people understand it. I don’t really get why the public investment is even important- it may even end up being a hindrance.

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2024 20:37

The rudest and most aggressive person by a long stretch in this debate is wealthy, entitled Farage.

EasternStandard · 07/06/2024 20:37

A bit of a mess a lot of this is not feasible

RiderOfTheBlue · 07/06/2024 20:38

Agree. Flynn probably sounds impressive to many people in England who have no idea what a shitshow the SNP really are.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 07/06/2024 20:38

Other than having a northern accent which is consistent with where she comes from, I'm unclear how Rayner "plays the professional northerner"?

She's hardly going around with a whippet and flat cap saying "ee bah gum, ey up chuck..." etc.

blue345 · 07/06/2024 20:38

MN is a left wing echo chamber at times.* Rayner is staggeringly unimpressive.*

She is. I'm not a Labour voter by any means but I haven't minded Starmer, Miliband and Brown. Rayner comes across as gobby and unintelligent though Penny's demeanour is quite off putting (and I say that as a soon to be ex Conservative voter).

Honestly, love him or hate him, Farage is wiping the floor with all of them. Keeps to the question asked and lands his point clearly. You may not like his policies but he knows how to debate (as he did to engage on I'm a celeb).

You're showing your prejudice.

LaPalmaLlama · 07/06/2024 20:29

Yeah I mean arguably a hedgie earning 10m a year is a working person and Angela just said she won’t tax him more 🤣🤣🤣

No hedge fund manager is paying top rate tax on all their income over 100k so Labour will get them by taxing their other wheezes

100% agree

I'm not a fan of his but I don't agree. He has come across well, even though I personally don't agree with him. He is an excellent public speaker.

I think the Conservative, Labour and SNP representatives have come across as bookish, rude and to be honest half the time I've just zoned out when they start yelling at each other.

Pebbles16 · 07/06/2024 20:40

gingercat02 · 07/06/2024 20:24

That got me spot on. Liberal Lefty through and through

Me too. If I was in the US in the 50s, I would have McCarthy knocking at my door!

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2024 20:40

Jeez, who'd be a woman in politics ?

Gobby = forthright and strongly speaks up
demeanour = determined and straight backed?

Farage though = good debater.

I debated at very high levels. You quite simply were not allowed to shout, interrupt and heckle.

I don't mind the middle class white men. A working class woman from the North though <sucks teeth>

There are hedge fund managers in my firm and I can assure you they do. I'm sure they do tax planning but they're still being paid an hefty income that's subject to PAYE like everyone else.

So you were impressed when he deliberately spoke over the Green speaker?

Cheguevarahamster · 07/06/2024 20:42

Mordaunt is dreadful. Very shouty and spouting the £2000 (and other) lies

She is very patronising.

CassieMaddox · 07/06/2024 20:42

I loved Carla pointing out Nigels lies

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/06/2024 20:42

Mordaunt is deluded. Taking people with you.

She's a tory, she knows about crashing things like supply chains and economies.

And Mordaunt, shut the fuck up and let other people talk.
