I'm no fan of Penny Mordant

However, she destroyed Calre Rayner on the "defence of Britain.. and nuclear deterrent" question and how Rayner voted on the nuke issue recently along with "half of the labours front bench." (I'm not sure when this vote was that Mordant talked about)

Yes, I agree, penny was the winner there.

I’m trying to watch this neutrally, ie. With no bias.

Didn’t believe the pink lady about guaranteeing gp appointments within 7 days. It won’t happen. Theres not enough gos around. My local surgery struggle employing gps.

Seymour5 · 07/06/2024 20:57

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator it’s Angela Rayner.

It’s easy to make promises when you’re never going to be in power though…

NigelHarmansNewWife · 07/06/2024 21:00

I thought Penny came across appallingly - hectoring and rude. Farage is modelling himself on Trump and treats the whole thing like a joke.

ssd · 07/06/2024 21:28

Penny regularly talked over the programme host...disgraceful behaviour.

I'm no fan of Mordant but gosh, did she give a pasting to Rayner

IMO, (we live in the heart of the nations, ie London) the Scottish guy I think standing in for SNP spoke a lot of facts re Labour and Tories

The Liberals - who can forget their lies re "student fees."!!

Farage as expected made himself look like a tit on the whole other than "stop and search."

She had to address the total BS by the the Labour rep/Rayner and it was the only way to go about it. Rayner looked like a fox caught in the headlights of a HGV coming at her at 100mph.

Let's not forget, Rayner and half of the Labour's front bench voted against our nuclear deterrent. What do you think Putin will think the Tories don't return to number 10

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator do you honestly believe all the rubbish you spout? If not (and I don’t believe you do really) what’s your motivation?

It’s a wind up. They forget that we all watched the debate and saw Rayner acquit herself enviably well in the face of intense provocation. Michal Husain must be a saint too.

Justkeepswiimming · 07/06/2024 22:22

I am here just to say clearly the Tories are the party who's only tactic is to shout louder than the other person speaking. Absolutely disgusting performance from Penny Mordant, much the same as Sunak earlier in the week. All other participants gave other speakers the chance to have their say. Mordant persistently talked over the top of Rayner. Apparently that's to be respected as strong. No. Its utterly disrespectful and shows desperation. Poorly managed by the host, however Mordant just talked over the top of her as well.

CurlewKate · 07/06/2024 23:00

I was amazed by how bad Mordant was. I expected her to absolutely own the whole debate but she just came across as ill prepared, shouty and tetchy.I was most impressed by Carla Denyer and Stephen Flynn.

Violetparis · 07/06/2024 23:09

Mordaunt was the worst which is saying something when the panel includes Farage. She was way too shouty and aggresive and desperate to repeat the £2000 lie.

Who said it was a lie??

#where is the evidence??

I've heard some radio shows/experts saying it could even be as high as 3k

Sunak repeated the claim today as he was out electioneering - saw it live in a news broadcast I think it was Sky News

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator - give over: it's been widely debunked. And let's not forget how many tax rises the current government has brought in over the last 14 years.

The Tories are trying the old Brexit battle bus/Trump trick of simply repeating something untrue so many times it sticks in the mind. They are desperate and having nothing to lose. Morally bankrupt.

Zonder · 08/06/2024 08:54

I'm no fan of Mordant but gosh, did she give a pasting to Rayner

if by giving a pasting you mean shouted lies angrily over the top.

Cheers Joe Lycett. Keep entertaining us.

Nah you got the wrong end of the stick again what has been said is that if you put Tory policies into the same audit tool they would be looking at 3k extra tax, not the 2k they wrongfully spout for labour.

CurlewKate · 08/06/2024 08:58

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator "how Rayner voted on the nuke issue recently along with "half of the labours front bench." (I'm not sure when this vote was that Mordant talked about)"

  1. Geologically recently, I suppose.

FYI. This time around we are not voting Tories, not Labour

The SNP bloke got it right about Labour and the Tories, "they are both the same."

Farage got this bit right, "There is the real Labout leader, " referring to Angela Rayner. Farage gave her credit for not being as "dull" as starmet

The Liberals, who can forget the bS re promise to remove uni fees

Scotlan has a 24 months NHS for certain ops and if mem serves me well, Wales under Labour and their NHS is not too far behind Scotland

Truss F'd up almost everyone with her mother of all dangerous fools, mini budgets. Sadly, if labour does slip into number 10 via the back door with a coalition partner/s, they will leave England in the biggest mess ever and open to bullying, cyber-attacks or worse from Russia

Lets not forget how Rayner and half of their shadow, front bench voted on our nuclear deterrence. If there was nuclear deterrence in Ukraine, I'm sure Russia/Putin would never have gone in further than the Crimea

Rubbish!!

  • as recently as 2020 and I quote from link below, a paper that is a friend of the left

According to the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Rayner wrote to them in 2020 saying: “I want a world without nuclear weapons and that’s what I want a Labour government to work towards. When the last Tory government tabled their motion to renew Trident in the House of Commons, I voted against it.”

KnickerlessParsons · 08/06/2024 09:06

I thought Penny was great. She should be leader of the Conservative Party.
Labour is going to win this election purely on the basis that they aren't the Conservative Party. Not because they have any great ideas on how to find the money to fix things.
We're going to be in the same mess after the election as we are now.
