Rubbish!!

  • as recently as 2020 and I quote from link below, a paper that is a friend of the left

According to the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Rayner wrote to them in 2020 saying: “I want a world without nuclear weapons and that’s what I want a Labour government to work towards. When the last Tory government tabled their motion to renew Trident in the House of Commons, I voted against it.”
In a separate inte......

You've linked to a Guardian article which makes it quite clear what her views are. You're able to link to this, but did you read and understand it?

CurlewKate · 08/06/2024 09:09

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator You said a recent vote. Not a recent letter expressing her wish for a nuclear free future. Very different things.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/06/2024 09:12

Penny was awful, from the Thatcheresque hair to the lying and the shouting. She also scored on own goal attempting to link knife crime to constituencies with Labour MPs, ignoring far more important social factors at play. Angela Rayner showed herself as far more in touch with public concern on that topic.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 08/06/2024 09:14

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/06/2024 09:04

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator what do you mean by this: FYI. This time around we are not voting Tories, not Labour?

Edited

In recent couple of weeks since Sunak came out and declared a GE - we, I had been a Tory voter since I started work - my family are all, Tories but now undecided. My parents were Labour up until Thacher came along

We wont be voting Tories as we don't trust them. Sadly, we are shooting ourselves in the foot as our 2 of our 3 kids earning are easily in the top 5% - well in excess of 150k for a few years now - our thrid kid, is above average earnings

We left work, both of us in our very early 50's and now early 60 and have an average income to speak of via private pensions/BTL. Labour will hit hard, very hard those on average and above average wages, that millions of people and they will F up england
I am looking to vote independent but cant really see a decent person where we live ie Tory MP and thankfully a Tory council

I may just not vote or more likely spoil my paper

HTH

Go ahead and spoil your paper. That will change the world.

Btw - apols, I forgot - what do you have to say re your "2016" claim???

See the link I posted from 2020. Her stance has been and is just like that unless she comes out and promises for what that is worth that she and those that voted against Trident are now in favour of our nuclear deterent

I thought Penny was great. She should be leader of the Conservative Party.
Labour is going to win this election purely on the basis that they aren't the Conservative Party. Not because they have any great ideas on how to find the money to fix things.
We're going to be in the same mess after the election as we are now.

You have a point but this bit I disagree with
"We're going to be in the same mess after the election as we are now."

Trust me, if you are my age, just over 60, you cant forget what Labour did to England when they had a little stint at number 10. Should Labour slip into number 10 via the back door with a coalition partner, trust me, if you work, have asperations, you are stuffed.

Poltics can change overnight - Labours massive left wing stance lot are not fans of our nuclear deterrent, nor are they being on about the where the money is coming from but most of those working hard will know the answer

I wish someone had tallied up all the times you've spouted that bs line on the bs threads you've started.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/06/2024 09:23

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator do what you like from your family's position of considerable privilege. FYI the Tory government has already fucked the UK up in multiple different ways.

You say you and your partner(?) left work: do you mean you retired early?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 07/06/2024 19:40

I'm no fan of Penny Mordant

However, she destroyed Calre Rayner on the "defence of Britain.. and nuclear deterrent" question and how Rayner voted on the nuke issue recently along with "half of the labours front bench." (I'm not sure when this vote was that Mordant talked about)

Edited

Rayner was ok on this but did make the mistake of not being brave enough to explain what deterrent means and how it works. Mordant said that other nations have to believe we would be prepared to use nuclear weapons. That is an awful misunderstanding. The reason we all have nuclear weapons is not to use them, the power play is having them. It’s Yr9 History, a really basic misconception 😞

Yes ritred at just over 50

"privileage," we've worked hard for it and as importantly, been prudent with our money and not tried to run before we can walk

My dad was financially well off but none of us wanted his money/etc and told him as he remained when we lost mum when mum was in her late 40 and he remairrred and we have 3, half siblings

Re Toris, yes they have but in fairness to them - COVID and spending billions paying workers laid off was the right thing

Labour, if you think the Tories have done that, if we are unluck as see labour coalaitons, then we are looking at more than a F up if you are a taxpayer earing more than the min wage and own your own place

No worries - you stated Rayner & Co ie half the front bench voted in 2016 - but she was clearly still banging on about it much later ie 2020 and I'm sure she and her left wing mates are still of the same stance

I agree with everything DistinguishedSocialCommentator says. She speaks great truths. I am not biased.
We all know that Kier 'I eat kittens' Stammer will put up our taxes by at least 5k per annum and I don't believe any of the lies in the papers that suggest otherwise.
As for that awful Calre Raynor woman...

Yes, but Angerla Rayner & Co are all aware why we have nukes these days, well in England anways. Rayner and Co cant be trusted with our unke deterrence look at the Ukraine

The SNP friend up north don't want nukes either

The we have Labour coucils that are "nuclear free zones." but I've not looked recently if they still are and if Putin and China are aware of these "nuclear free zones."😂

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator Well you can always go back to work and sell some of your BTLs if your average income isn't enough to live on. What jobs did you have before you retired?

Taxpayers earning more than the average wage should be able to contribute more - that's how it works. The CoL crisis is down to Brexit, the war in Ukraine and the Tories trashing the economy. Labour will inherit a mess which is not of their making.

I'll post later as we are now looking for EA's to put up for sale our BTL's and hoping to go to work this afternoon. Many thanks for your financial advice

Not financial advice @DistinguishedSocialCommentator - just pointing out that in your privileged position you have options. Options many on average wages don't have.

I've got a job staring tonight are 23-245 hoursas has my OH and we have buyers for our BTL' - to our pleasant surrprise we are getting about 30% more than we anticipated, thanks for your advice again - prudent advice from you should labour slip in via the back door with a coalition partner as they will really hit hard those with BTL's, etc IMO
Thank you again, appreciated!!!

Aye - crack on @DistinguishedSocialCommentator. The Labour government is going to need your CGT and any NI and income tax to fix the mess they're inheriting.

The party policy is to maintain the deterrent. Local councils policy statement is just stating anti nuclear position. Just a view point. Probably the one we all have in essence

Aye, cheers for the finacial advice, we exchange contracts on all of the BTL's on Monday and complete the same day if feasible if not, then certainly Truesday
