So what is your sentence for Sunak in that case

Do Michale Foot change his ways, did he apologise???

I didn't know there was a dress code for remembrance day attendance? but let me cast my memory back and see if i can recall Michael Foot being our PM..... nope.

Lets stick to the current Tory mess and Sunaks part in it.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 07/06/2024 13:36

I am amazed Sunak thought it was acceptable to leave early and I'm even more surprised one of his advisors didn't stop him from such a huge faux pas.

It wasn't a donkey jacket and he had nothing to apologise for. He was a very principled man.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, Foot volunteered for military service, but was rejected because of his chronic asthma. It was suggested in 2009 that he was a member of the secret Auxiliary Units.

It does make a refreshing change from But Jeremy Corbyn.

Never told them? ignored their advice? or as one pp has suggested on another thread that they just Sunak screw up..... as they want him gone asap.

The outrage at Michael Foot was totally manufactured by the tabloids. Who never knowingly let the truth get in the way of a good headline.

Michael Foot and the donkey jacket that wasn't (telegraph.co.uk)

Michael Foot and the donkey jacket that wasn't

Michael Foot is often caricatured wearing a donkey jacket, a somewhat inaccurate reference to what was to become an infamous appearance at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday in 1981.

Cock up or conspiracy - I'm almost minded to go for the latter. Rightist global forces want the last remants of a centrist Tory party destroyed and a populist Faragist/Braverman/ Johnson type party to rise from the ashes.

"dress code." Come on, friend, try harder!!!

I'll help you - no "dress code" is required, its common sense to dress smartly (common sense approach)just like those one is honouring as the Memorial day services, right!!!

Notonthestairs · 07/06/2024 13:44

Sunak chose electioneering on a day when world leaders were honouring the armed forces.

It should have been considered an honour to attend.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 13:44

You know this is going to follow Sunak around for the rest of the election. Reform must be delighted

Alexandra2001 · 07/06/2024 13:24

What? who has said about his race etc? disgraceful & rightly deleted but this isn't the mainstream view.

Try again? what do you mean? i ve defended the contribution of the commonwealth to both WW's.

There was actually nothing wrong with the deleted post. Is this going to be the new tactic? Report anything you don’t like?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 07/06/2024 13:47

I don't think it's necessarily racist to question the impact of someone's heritage on their perception of the importance of cultural events. I'm a child of immigrants and feel 100% British but still have things I just don't connect with because of my parents' culture. (Not this as my dad and grandparents came over pre war and all served in the armed forces)

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2024 13:48

@Iwasafool quite rightly too. I’m proud of all of my heritage as should sunak and Johnson be. I merely pointed out to the poster saying sunak is Indian that quintessentially English Johnson was born abroad and sunak wasn’t.

During the Remembrance ceremony, the Queen Mother, is said to have complimented Mr Foot on the garment, telling him that it was “a smart, sensible coat for a day like this”

Sunak on the other hand, has had no such support for his deliberate snub of our history and our veterans.

I forgot about his antics - lol, so there was Micahel Foot of Labour disreepcting the even and now we also have J Corbyn - these politicians, eh!!

Shocking that But Jeremy Corbyn took time to support veterans.

I am outraged.

Michale[sic] Foot didn't have anything to apologise for.

Wearing a jacket the Tory press doesn't approve of (43 years ago) wasn't a reason to apologise; so he didn't.

Obviously a diplomatic error, but I do think there are a lot of hypocrits in the UK pretending to care about D Day.

MN does atm have a habit of deleting posts that might have offended someone, not that they broke MN rules.

It might well be the defining moment of this election and one that will secure the Tories defeat.

When it comes to WW2, the public are not forgiving.

I'm not sure that actually staying away from a posh and tasty lunch in order to spend extra time with real veterans can be described as 'antics'. I would describe that as 'decent, human, prioritising what really matters'.

But you do you.

Nothing wrong with the deleted post, except that it was factually incorrect.
