It's got fuckall to do with his ethnicity.

He snubbed the veterans and showed the military that he couldn't give a shiny shit about them.

He shamed the country by leaving.

He's a selfish arse who wants the young people to volunteer for a year, but can't give up 1 fucking day.

Hypocritical pathetic excuse for a man.

He's British. He was born here. Just because he's brown you think he's not British?

Also lots of older Indian people were entitled to British citizenship because of the little thing called colonisation.

My FIL was born in India but he was entitled to move here and build a life.

He was born and educated in England - whats it go to do with where his parents were born?? Many people, kids etc as well as adults know very little re WW1 and 2 - whats your point, Bud??

Sunak has contributed a lot more taxes than you ever could - would you have said the same if Gordon Brown did that or B Johnson??

You are only saying this as his skin is not white, IMO (I stand corrected if you say you would not have said this to Tony Blair)/Boris Jognson etc) as he was born in England, educated in England went to uni in England - holds aBrit passport - so why bring in the country of his parents were born in??? You would not have said this otherwise as he was born in England!!!

Edited

Where Sunak was born doesn't matter. The point that @bombastix was making is that our Prime Minister has shown a deep disrespect for his own country by initially refusing to attend this commemoration at all, and then dropping in before running off to do a campaigning interview. His tax contributions are irrelevant - if the Prime Minister of a country shows such clear disdain for the people who have given their lives for that country, he is unfit for the job.

Skin colour does not come into it - this is about someone's choices and someone's actions showing us who he really is.

Britishness is not defined by how much tax someone pays. I'm bewildered that you should think so, it's complete nonsense.

No. It’s sod all to do with tax. It’s do with our history, our people, our struggles and our sacrifices. This guy is PM of nowhere

@Noonecares245
If it's okay for him not to give a shit about D.Day because he's from Indian descent, then he doesn't give a shit about our country as a whole. Shouldn't be prime minister or even in government at all.

A very large number of Indians fought in both World Wars.
My grandfather fought in the Indian Army in WW2, preventing the Japanese from taking India.

Now it is true to say that few Indians fought on D-day, there were though a large number of them in the D-Day Dodgers of the 8th Army at the time fighting in Italy.

Are you saying that Sunak knows very little about history.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 10:07

PM of nowhere, in it for the badge, understands nothing of Britain except what it can give him. Disgusted.

frankentall · 07/06/2024 09:55

Michael Foot was accused of this once, 43 years ago.
At least he bothered to turn up, not fuck off to do a TV interview.

Same is for Sunak - "ONCE" bud!!

Emeraldsrock · 07/06/2024 10:07

He’s a prime minister. His focus should be on running the country. Not commemoration ceremonies . That’s what the royals are for.

Notonthestairs · 07/06/2024 10:07

Even the most basic Google reveals India sent two and a half million soldiers to fight under Allied command.

It was a world war. We commemorate all of them.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 10:08

Bollocks it is. D Day was planned in part by Churchill. Fucking contemptible Sunak is

He’s not from India. He was born in Southampton. That makes him English. Or you one of those people who think brown people can never really be British?

The School he attended has its own memorial, it is hard to believe he wasn't aware of the significance.

It's his job to care. Or at least to show up, which he originally wasn't planning on doing at all.

And also, it's just such bad politics. He looks like he doesn't give a shit, and Starmer gets to be the one appearing in Zelensky's video, and with other world leaders. The picture of Biden, Macron, Scholz, and Cameron is not a good look.
I genuinely don't know what his advisors were thinking, especially when they're trying not to lose votes to reform. Are they stupid, or doing it on purpose? Because I cannot think of another reason why they told him this would be fine.

He has also dodged more UK tax than most of us as well.

Notonthestairs · 07/06/2024 10:09

He was campaigning.
On a day where they'd agreed to put the election aside for commemoration services.

I strongly disagree with this. PMs have to because it’s their decisions that get young men killed in wars. Sunak is not an exception

Yes, I would slate any British Prime Minister of any ethnicity who refused to attend an event like this one - especially because at the 90st anniversary it's unlikely there will be any survivors present - and then decided to just pop in and run away for a campaigning interview. Any Prime Minister, of any political party. And I don't think anyone posting here who has any decency feels differently. Hope that clears it up.
