The racists on this thread can fuck right off. I can't stand the Tories and hell would have to freeze over before I would even consider voting for them, but Sunak is as British as any of us, and his ethnicity had fuck all to do with his poor judgement yesterday.

Well said.

Notonthestairs · 07/06/2024 13:10

National service requires our PM - whoever they are - to stand with international leaders to commemorate D-Day.

It is a privilege and honour to have the chance to be involved in those commemorations.

I expected the Prime Minister to attend.

Not to prioritise an interview with ITV - scheduled for next week.

It's tawdry however much you dress it up.

Don't forget that the reason he needed to do the TV interview was to deflect from his lying the previous day on national TV.

I think it is important to remember that he was quite happy to support his former boss whilst said boss lied about their joint law breaking.

Quite a pattern is forming.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 13:13

Well it seems the timescales were fixed early and so he always intended to return early. That would have been his wish or instruction. His judgment is appalling. A man without hinterland. Cameron replaced him, awful. What a shabby, superficial leader we have. I hope his constituents judge him appropriately

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 07/06/2024 13:14

Alexandra2001 · 07/06/2024 13:03

Yep 100%

France is full of cemeteries, full of Indian - Hindu Muslim Sikh young men who gave their lives to fight our freedom.

Now Sunak is saying he doesn't want the D-Day ceremonies to become "politicised"

What an utter hypocrite, someone else who has very few positive qualities.

To be clear, Sunak is no better no worse than the socialist Starmer or any other politician for that matter

Look what some of them did during Covid

Look at what some of them did in the 'Expenses scandals.'

Those are just a few of the reasons I don't trust politicians

Importantly, some of the comments even on this thread - those comments would have never materialized if Sunal was a 'white/English' person and that is a fact

This gross incompetence event, I blame those that handle Sunaks as well as well as Sunak.

The Rawadan fisaco has given the right-with a chance to air their ugly thoughts. Sadly, this fiasco has just given the right wing more ammunition

Sunak was wrong on all counts and has been caught with his pants down.

The Labout leader, Michael foot was told by the media that he was disrespecting the war dead because of his unquie clothing style.

Sunak has apologized immediately, there is nothing more to add

I'm certain if Sunak was a 'white, English bloke' like Boris Johnson/Starmmer etc, the posts would have never referred to their origins.

There was one very upsetting post on this thread and for the first time ever, I had to report it.

Sunak like most politicians is a good politician as they often chat total BS

This incident by Sunak, he must have had guidance from his right-hand people - just shows priorities of politicians

Sadly, this incident has given another chance for the ugly head of the right-wing to raise its head and at times will bring out the true colours of many in real life and forums.

Why is an apology enough? meaningless, he behaved appallingly, as veterans have said "let our nation down"

Is that how you would discipline a child? bad behaviour excused with an apology....

Only issued one when he saw the backlash.

He is supposed to be our leader, our PM, representing the nation.... other political figures were there.

There is plenty to add.

btw had Starmer returned early, he would have got exactly the same criticism from me.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 13:16

He’s in charge. He can manage his own pants. Just not Britain

I'm absolutely gobsmacked to be honest! So disrespectful, completely out of touch with the mood of the Country on such an important day. I can't believe his advisors would have told him to do that, is he so arrogant that he's chosen to override their advice? Totally indefensible.

Agreed and as I have stated several times

Sunak and his advisors have given the racists another chance to raise their very ugly heads above the parfaits

Rawanda was bad enough but this will really get the right wing out in force

I'd sack his advisors at the very least

DorothyArnold · 07/06/2024 13:18

The Douglas Adam's quote comes to mind 'It is a well known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it'

Alexandra2001 · 07/06/2024 13:18

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator mmmm the race angle? so far i have seen little of that directed at him by mainstream politicians, Farage has come closest by questioning his patriotism.

I think any PM who did this, would face equal scorn, well, i hope so.

Really!!

All the comments on various forms that he is "not British.. born in India, knows noting re Britians etc."

For the first time ever, I had to report a post here and trust me, it was not pleasant

OH PLEASE TRY AGAIN

CheshireCat1 · 07/06/2024 13:21

I’m totally shocked by what he did, those veterans went through hell to fight for our freedom and have carried those painful memories with them all their lives. He also showed disrespect to our allies, those that died and those that are still with us. He should resign, he isn’t fit to stand as our PM.

What does it say about the judgement of the person who appointed those advisors?

Nope and i never said that he should, God that would leave us Oliver Dowden lol!

He'll be gone in 4 weeks, in time, back to his Californian home.

But i don't need to accept his apology.

Shortfatsuit · 07/06/2024 13:24

Farage is absolutely trying to milk it from a race angle, but I would expect nothing else from him.

Sunak is guilty of terribly poor judgement and a lack of the kind of political awareness that most people would expect in a leader. But it's utterly depressing that some people are trying to make this about race.

What? who has said about his race etc? disgraceful & rightly deleted but this isn't the mainstream view.

Try again? what do you mean? i ve defended the contribution of the commonwealth to both WW's.

Right.... Michael Foot wore a jacket that the Tory press disapproved of 43 years ago (albeit he actually attended) and you keep mentioning it for some reason, but our PM jetted home early yesterday and then said sorry so we have to shut up about it? Not likely, "Bud".

Bud, both events happened and that is a fact and both were seen as "direspectful" - right!!

Not to attending a D-Day event is WORSE than wearing an expensive but non traditional style coat.

So what is your sentence for Sunak in that case

Do Michale Foot change his ways, did he apologise???
