If she took British citizenship she'd have to pay a lot more tax, so financially it makes sense.

It will be good to see the back of them both though.

Grifters the lot of them - money before country. Like Starmer said in the debate Sunak was busy gaming the financial crisis to make mega bucks whilst he was bringing down terrorists gangs that threatened our state. He knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Shows their selfishness. God forbid you pay proper tax towards the country you are running.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/06/2024 11:10

@frankentall a terrible look, not just disrespectful but even from a political angle- his core voters are the 70 plus who take these things very seriously (quite right) - I can't imagine Starmer doing anything of the sort as he has class and manners- Sunak simply doesn't- he's a jumped up over eager Apprentice candidate grifter - and even though I'm not a Tory I couldn't imagine Cameron or penny Mordant doing this either.

TheFairyCaravan · 07/06/2024 11:10

He’s a disrespectful, horrible man.

Men and women, who helped free this country and Europe, some aged over 100 managed to make that trip and stay for a few days yet he couldn’t even give them the respect of staying there for more than a couple of hours. I didn’t think I could hate him any more than I already did, but it turns out I can.

OverNexus · 07/06/2024 11:10

Let's not forget this as well. His wife is nothing to do with him apparently and he missed Zelenskiy yesterday. Look how he lies and Starmer's wife works for the NHS. He is imploding before our very eyes along with the Tory party that bastard spawned him after the fall of Liz Truss.

Er, because he's the Prime Minister?!

Agree with @Labtastic. It is literally his job to care, or give the appearance of caring, about soldiers who fought on behalf of the country he is now governing.

Absolutely no reason for that post to have been deleted.

I was gobstruck when I saw it had gone.

"Britishness is not defined by how much tax someone pays. I'm bewildered that you should think so, it's complete nonsense."

Quite.

Did Rishi and his family not get involved in tax avoidance on a massive level?

Byronada · 07/06/2024 11:17

Regardless of how I vote I always thought Sunak was fundamentally decent regardless of competence. This was disgraceful behaviour. Disrespectful and unacceptable and he should resign.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2024 11:18

To the poster saying he is Indian, well quite apart from the fact he’s not, I wonder where you think the darling of the Tories Johnson was born 😆

I agree. It’s not a good look. I mean did nobody on his team think that this was a bad idea?

BIossomtoes · 07/06/2024 11:19

couldn't imagine Cameron or penny Mordant doing this either.

Cameron stood in for him and Mordaunt would have been all over it. I genuinely can’t envisage any previous PM from either party who would even have contemplated this behaviour.

His behaviour was disgraceful but he's not Indian. And perhaps you should educate yourself on Indian contribution to the war.

The rampant greed that is destroying our world, she would be a bit less super rich - one's thing for sure all that money doesn't buy class. They must have had that conversation about the optics - "I don't think so , darling - why should we ?".

To be fair (and I don't want to derail) a lot of Indians aren't fans of the British Empire with good reasons.

I hate Indians. They are a beastly people with a beastly religion. The famine was their own fault for breeding like rabbits.

Colonial Biopolitics and the Great Bengal Famine of 1943

An estimated 3 million people died due to the Bengal famine of 1943. The purpose of this article is to theorize the Bengal famine through the lens of colonial biopolitics. The colonial strategies and utilitarian principles by the British authorities ex...

This isn't even about patriotism, or jingoism or Britishness or any of those subjective, nebulous, contested terms.

It's about being PM and having obligations and duties to perform. Some are sombre, some are lengthy, some are probably really boring, some may not be in line with one's own personal ideologies (I'm sure thta happens loads) but as PM you bloody well go to them , stay as long as it takes, shake the hands, do the chit chat and nodding.

It's not only Royals that are supposed to have this sense of duty and service.

Hs comment on young people and national service are lost on no one today.

Noonecares245 · 07/06/2024 11:34

Posters quoting my comment and reminding me about Indians contributions to the WAR. I'm well aware of thay - but remember back then India was under British colonial occupation and I doubt their citizens had any choice. Ask them today to contribute to any of your wars, and they'll tell you where to stick it.

Bululu · 07/06/2024 11:34

Oh now this lot is concerned about being British. 🇬🇧

Bobbybobbins · 07/06/2024 11:35

This is such an own goal by Sunak. I agree that he has mentally checked out at this point. Awful.

beguilingeyes · 07/06/2024 11:36

Boris Johnson was born in New York...is he not British either?

The stupidity of this is staggering. Surely someone on his team, if not him, would have realised how appalling this would look...less than a month before the election.

You really need to stop digging. Are you now implying that there was conscription in India?

OverNexus · 07/06/2024 12:00

You would have thought Cameron would have had a quiet word or maybe he was happy to bask in his own reflected glory.

Rishi's claim to have "nothing to do with that company" (Infosys) is a bit much.

One thing I like about America is they seem to be quite relaxed about people having ties to America and another country e.g. Irish Americans, Italian Americans, African Americans etc. Sunak in American terminology would be Indian British acknowledging his links to both countries which I can't see as a bad thing. I don't know if he has dual nationality but I don't think it is to do with the legals. He is probably proud of his ancestry and why shouldn't he be and is also proud of his British birth and upbringing.

OverNexus · 07/06/2024 12:17

So in summary, the Tory idea of patriotism - run down our armed forces (Cameron), party on the eve of Prince Phillips lockdown funeral (Johnson), leave D-Day commemorations early (Sunak). But other people's children should do National Service. This is not the party of Churchill.

He is more "British" than most of the nation IMO as he has paid more in taxes -

why is he not "British" he was born and educated here he has paid more thxes than many of us

I would be interested to see exactly how much tax he has paid proportionate to his billions.
