Not a good look, was it?

Just a thought. Could Cameron become party leader ?

Just a thought. Could Cameron become party leader ?

He'd need to get rid of his Lord title and become an MP.

Not inconsiderable hurdles.

Before or after the election? Before would only make them look more foolish. After I think the first thing will be a drawn out awful fight between the rightwingers in the party, each of them trying to out-right the others.

I cannot get my head around how this happened?😵‍💫

What made Sunak think his presence at the International D-day commemoration was optional? Who told him it would be OK to do a half day or not go at all? Did no one around him see it was an awful idea? No one?

WTAF?🤯🤯🤯

Its what i have been saying - where were the so-called, advisors??

What about Mr Cameron - he is a longstanding politician and one who was PM - why did he not say anything as of all people he would have been aware re potential implications

The bottom line, I blam Sunak

bombastix · 07/06/2024 15:08

Cameron has really stuck Sunak with that statement. Mind you, Sunak confirmed that he intended to leave early weeks ago, and then compounded his error by saying this departure should not be politicised even though it had been planned for a political purpose.

Then Cameron rephrases all of that using Sunak’s own justification and makes him look even worse, with him standing in patriotically for the PM brought to you by international finance.

LlynTegid · 07/06/2024 15:11

If Mr Sunak cared about the military and respected them, he would not have appointed Grant Shapps as defence secretary.

bombastix · 07/06/2024 15:12

Also, has no one noticed just how lonely the current PM is? No colleagues in support when he campaigns, and it would seem not even when he is not.

Startingagainandagain · 07/06/2024 15:13

Another day and another error of judgement and PR disaster for the PM.

This man was never fit to be PM and is just a petulant, entitled, out of touch, useless individual.

Same as Johnson was.

Citrusandginger · 07/06/2024 15:26

What made Sunak think his presence at the International D-day commemoration was optional?

Exactly. Most politicos might also have the thought that if you want to win the election, looking statesman like on the 10 o clock news wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Sunak. No political nous and not a decent human.

Having the election in July so that your children can start their new school come September says it all.

It might well be the defining moment of this election and one that will secure the Tories defeat.

When it comes to WW2, the public are not forgiving.

Yep. It's his 'bacon sandwich/ bigoted woman' moment.
Not only WWII but the 80th anniversary of DDay. Not even then the 79th!

I do wonder at what British means if you don’t face time for this. Ignorant, arrogant man

Like most of them.

If Mr Sunak cared about the military and respected them, he would not have appointed Grant Shapps as defence secretary.

If the Tory Party cared about the military they wouldn't have appointed Gavin Williamson as defence secretary. Grin

Unbelievable when you think about it!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 07/06/2024 17:07

Ouch! YOu dont want that headline in the Torygraph! I wonder if they are now just resigned to losing?

Yep. Labour have had everyone out. Conservatives have sent out junior ministers who are not across their brief and sent Sunak out on his own a lot.

Who thought they cared about the military ? I certainly didn't.

Can anyone supply any proof ? No, thought not.

quantmum · 07/06/2024 17:25

Terrible decision. He's the one who called the election, the date for the commemoration was already set. Funny that MN is so full of people championing private school education when these Tories are clearly so thick and out of touch!

I think this is what will happen. When they lost to Labour last time, they did the same thing, and cycled through leaders. This time it'll be worse because the Brexiteers/hard Right have had a taste of power.

Not just the Tories

Starmer - yes??

Sir Keir admits he owes success to free education at private school

The Labour leader, 61, attended Reigate Grammar School, a league table-topping £22,995-a-year private school in the Surrey commuter belt from 1974 to 1981.

Gtfto2024 · 07/06/2024 17:40

Fuck me, how many more times. It was a state school that went private. Hardly in the same league.

You have to have been under a bridge or on another planet, or in a country like Russia to realise that there is a huge difference between the two. Why do posters keep repeating this utter bilge?

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2024 17:43

blimey, that headline! In the Torygraph. Ouch indeed.

Shortfatsuit · 07/06/2024 18:09

Yep, that must hurt.

SerendipityJane · 07/06/2024 18:12

The Tories gave the Telegraph the Brexit the Telegraph so desperately wanted and this is how they get repaid.

Ungrateful tycoons. Really ! Have they no honour ?

DramaLlamaBangBang · 07/06/2024 18:12

As predicted, every single other leader ( even the SNP) had made hay out of this. Who would not have seen this happening? When you have Keir Starmer saying ' there's nowhere else I'd rather be' it's looking like someone knows he's not only checked out and booked his ticket to California but that he would not have had the nous to turn round and say ' no this looks bad'.
