Tonight's TV debate Sunak v Starmer - any predictions?

Anyone up for a watch thread? Maybe even debate bingo. I know I know, don't threaten me with a good time. (Bingo suggestions: natural party of business, Labour has no plan, end the chaos, Rayner will take over, assorted references to Starmer's time as DPP probably blaming for Jimmy Saville again, inflation is down etc etc.)

At this point I seriously doubt anything like this will remotely change the game Nick Clegg style. I read somewhere the only way Sunak could come out of this ahead in the polls is if Starmer pulled off a mask scooby-doo style to reveal he's Jeremy Corbyn, which admittedly would be great telly.

I'm so fed up with the endless rhetoric but will definitely watch later anyway.

Keir “I offer a practical, sensible plan that I’ve avoided explaining anything about. Don’t vote for these arseholes though. Flowery words flowery words.”

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 22:06

RS jusy shoring up some safe votes now

Pipsquiggle · 04/06/2024 22:06

We all need to remember that most elections are lost by the incompetence of the incumbent Government NOT by a dazzling opposition.

The Tories are bastards and should be ashamed how they have fucked up this country. I hope they get eviscerated.

Cornettoninja · 04/06/2024 22:06

Rishi keeps dismissing the past. I decided four years ago I’d had a gut full, it’s not mine or starmers issue that his party couldn’t keep a leader in the role in that time.

This is the very recent past he’s sidestepping any responsibility of.

Springchickenonion · 04/06/2024 22:06

Rishi is really proud of furlough! I had forgotten about it until he mentioned it. 136429298 times in 60 minutes

MidnightPatrol · 04/06/2024 22:07

’Choose five more years of shit, at least you’re used to it’ - Sunak

Anxiousheartbeat · 04/06/2024 22:07

Rs closing statement is reasonable though because Keir has not explained one thing or answered one question even about the bloody football it’s mortifying

A method to make the rich richer.

RiderOfTheBlue · 04/06/2024 22:07

That's two debates I've watched now. 6 participants and not a single woman amongst them. How depressing.

Yeah unlike the Tories who come up with promises and then back track!

Everyone was clamouring for furlough at the time! KS wanted MORE furlough’

Doesn’t he understand that most can’t vote for him or Starmer?

Rishi would shit himself if anyone brought up reform right now.

CaveMum · 04/06/2024 22:08

Over to YouTube for the TRIP analysis I go, it should be starting any minute.

Some of you are seriously hard of listening and, frankly, beyond help. If you put your cross in a blue box in July then there’s no hope for you.

What on earth is the appeal of more of this utter shit.

Not sure everyone on this thread will actually have a vote...

Education, elder care and NHS way more important to the majority of normal working people. This country is in crisis with public services - children, health, education, mental health, the list goes on - in absolute crisis.

If your biggest worry is transgender then you're clearly insulated from the actual crisis.

Whether someone is insulated from the crisis of not we all have a vote and a right to an opinion.

I'd like KS to discuss womens rights and if he will support single sex provision.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/06/2024 22:08

DH just said to me it's a choice between no plan or shit plan.

StripedPiggy · 04/06/2024 22:08

That was awful, & neither man comes out of it well, but Sunak definitely won. I very much doubt it will change anything, though, so Starmer will just be relieved it’s over.

Anxiousheartbeat · 04/06/2024 22:08

I wish at debates the host would just stand and repeat “answer the question answer the question answer the question” until, you know, they answer the question.

Therichgetricher · 04/06/2024 22:08

CaveMum · 04/06/2024 22:05

Sadly that’s just a headline grabber. By the time they’ve taken into account the children moving back to State school from private and the schools reclaiming back VAT that they could not previously it will not generate as much as they claim.

It will raise fuck all and create a chaos that has been very clearly predicted for some time. A vote for this policy alone is like a turkey voting for xmas. Let people with money do what they want. This is not the answer to fixing the issues in schools.

Springchickenonion · 04/06/2024 22:08

@Anxiousheartbeat true. But it's irrelevant to the future election. It was what was needed at the time.

Circleinthesand81 · 04/06/2024 22:09

BIossomtoes · 04/06/2024 22:05

Look how well that turned out.

Well the bit before he got into bed with the devil.

Cornettoninja · 04/06/2024 22:08

Rishi would shit himself if anyone brought up reform right now.

He tried to indirectly but directly bring that up in the closing statement though

Takoneko · 04/06/2024 22:09

Choose the certainty of more shit, chaos and broken public services rather than the uncertainty of Labour. 😂😂

“You know what you’re getting with the conservatives”. Really?!! 😂😂

He should though, it was a lifeline for so many people who would of been out of jobs, losing homes etc. The stress that would have caused, if that was tour business you had built up and to lose it all due to an unprecented event across the world. He did the right thing, it might have cost us but I am damn well okay about that.
