Tonight's TV debate Sunak v Starmer - any predictions?

Anyone up for a watch thread? Maybe even debate bingo. I know I know, don't threaten me with a good time. (Bingo suggestions: natural party of business, Labour has no plan, end the chaos, Rayner will take over, assorted references to Starmer's time as DPP probably blaming for Jimmy Saville again, inflation is down etc etc.)

At this point I seriously doubt anything like this will remotely change the game Nick Clegg style. I read somewhere the only way Sunak could come out of this ahead in the polls is if Starmer pulled off a mask scooby-doo style to reveal he's Jeremy Corbyn, which admittedly would be great telly.

I'm so fed up with the endless rhetoric but will definitely watch later anyway.

I'm thinking Starmer is coming across stronger then ive seen him before.

Sunak is making my blood boil with his petulance. The 45-second answer format is ridiculous though – they can't answer anything properly.

Just come and visit a school or local a and e. Simple

I’m fully aware that education, the NHS, etc are in a mess, but Starmer has yet to explain in any detail what he plans to do about it.

I prefer Sunak Both men are very rich so having a pop at Rishi is a bit rich.

Only one is richer than the King !

Someone being rich doesn’t make them

"If your biggest worry is transgender then you're clearly insulated from the actual crisis."

No, we don't 'worry' about 'transgender', we worry about Women's Rights!

Quite. And when will they discuss it.

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:54

It does make them isolated from reality, however

His wife is the source of the funds. He’s done well, but as the saying used to go ‘he married well’. It isn’t all his earned income.

He has on education - immediate recruitment of 6,500 teachers paid for by the VAT on private schools.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 04/06/2024 21:55

Sunak is like Blackadder except he's not funny: I've got a (cunning) plan. Repeat ad nauseam. We need shots or a bingo card.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 04/06/2024 21:55

Therichgetricher · 04/06/2024 21:49

Their plan is to make everyone is the NHS work more hours! There are no new people.

Where are the teachers coming from? There is an exodus now…. And it isn’t just a Tory govt issue. It’s the level of shite teachers have to put up with from parents. And god help us when a great deal of the 7% privately-educated join the state system because a significant number of those places are for SEN kids and only the very poorest kids will be pushed out further. Absolute madness.

There is an exodus because the tories have made the education system so miserable. Testing testing testing. Scrapping the nice subjects. Saddling kids with homework and stress. Schools are so grim now no wonder teachers are leaving.

same with doctors and nurses. We’re training people to leave and work in Australia.

Sunak is doing better than I expected.

What are you watching? He’s sounding desperate and petulant.

BIossomtoes · 04/06/2024 21:54

🤣 😂 🤣

L1ttledrummergirl · 04/06/2024 21:55

Sunak is a fuckwit. Our legal system works because even the very worst offenders are entitled to a defence, and throwing that out as a bad thing shows Sunak has no understanding of how British law works.

He is an ass who should be nowhere near a leadership roll in any way shape or form.

Disrespect piece of shit.

It's not rude, it's reality.

It is rude. You have your vote, use it. And leave other women to decide on their own priorities.

Absolutely scaremongering

sandorschicken · 04/06/2024 21:55

@Wewereonnabreak

Well, hopefully someone will ask, Sunak will give us an answer and Starmer will talk about Liz Truss.

Growlybear83 · 04/06/2024 21:55

I've been a Labour Party member for many years and there aren't many things I want to see more than an end to the current government, but from what I've seen tonight, I think keir starmer has made a complete prat of himself. I've always said that you should vote for your local candidates and the policies of their parties, but I think I am having second thoughts having watched this and I'm sorely tempted to vote for the Workers' Party instead. 😳
