Tonight's TV debate Sunak v Starmer - any predictions?

Anyone up for a watch thread? Maybe even debate bingo. I know I know, don't threaten me with a good time. (Bingo suggestions: natural party of business, Labour has no plan, end the chaos, Rayner will take over, assorted references to Starmer's time as DPP probably blaming for Jimmy Saville again, inflation is down etc etc.)

At this point I seriously doubt anything like this will remotely change the game Nick Clegg style. I read somewhere the only way Sunak could come out of this ahead in the polls is if Starmer pulled off a mask scooby-doo style to reveal he's Jeremy Corbyn, which admittedly would be great telly.

I'm so fed up with the endless rhetoric but will definitely watch later anyway.

What job did Starmer do before? I’ve forgotten.

He had a real job. What on earth did sunak do, before he was 2nd choice from a broken party.

MassDebate2024 · 04/06/2024 21:50

"Hard working parents should be able to give their kids a good education."

What???!!!!! I bet many more parents work harder than some who can afford private schools. Don't their kids deserve a great education, too?

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:49

Cheap shot about the CPS

Maybe because he keeps bloody banging on about it

Cornettoninja · 04/06/2024 21:50

Starmer wouldn’t have to bring up Truss et al if the Tories hadn’t chopped and changed their leader so many times. In most other general elections you’re dealing with a PM whose served at least four years and ready to take responsibility for their actions.

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:50

Oh Saphhie from Ab Fab is on!

Sunak is doing better than I expected.

Jeezo you are easily pleased

CaveMum · 04/06/2024 21:50

Why is Starmer citing prosecuting terrorist groups in his previous job rather than talking about what his plans for defence spending are?

I’m an undecided voter at the moment, a small-c conservative. Starmer is doing nothing to convince me why I should vote for Labour.

Just come and visit a school or local a and e. Simple

Springchickenonion · 04/06/2024 21:51

Who's asking these questions? What's Donald trump got to do with us. I want to know what support will be given to small businesses

MrsWhites · 04/06/2024 21:51

I mean I can’t see that either of them came off particularly well in this with all the shouting etc but can anyone actually say they are clearer on what Labour will do or how they will do it after this?

Pipsquiggle · 04/06/2024 21:51

Charlie2121 · 04/06/2024 21:43

Starmer simply has nothing to offer.

For someone as shadow leader at a time of Covid and the Ukraine war and all the associated cost of living issues which makes opposition easy he is quite frankly appalling.

I find him frighteningly incompetent. He’s now talking about tackling terrorism which after his track record as DPP is staggering.

I don’t believe a single word he says. Having him lead the country is an appalling prospect.

@Charlie2121

Have you lived in the UK for the last 14 years?

The Tories have systemically suffocated effective public services
NHS fucked
Libraries shut
Sports facilities shut or expensive
Education fucked
Universities too expensive particularly for WC
Transport fucked
Regions outside of London/SE fucked
Cost of living fucked
Defence fucked
Legal immigration fucked
Stop the boats fucked
Brexit fucked
...........

And the list goes on and on. Everything the Tories have touched has turned to shit.

Education, elder care and NHS way more important to the majority of normal working people. This country is in crisis with public services - children, health, education, mental health, the list goes on - in absolute crisis.

If your biggest worry is transgender then you're clearly insulated from the actual crisis.

Rude. You have no place to tell someone else what their priority should be.

The nature of politics is global and local they are connected?

They’re less likely to get it after a huge number of kids with parents with disposable income to afford a house in catchment join the ranks.

Yes visit them in Wales under labour…

🤣🤣🤣

ssd · 04/06/2024 21:52

Starmer is clearly having to hold back from flattening sunak. He comes across as having self restraint. Sunak wants to shout and be aggressive....short man syndrome...

Anxiousheartbeat · 04/06/2024 21:53

“Im
not going to get into the details of the 2k”

of course you’re not Keir, you don’t get into the details of anything

sandorschicken · 04/06/2024 21:53

"If your biggest worry is transgender then you're clearly insulated from the actual crisis."

No, we don't 'worry' about 'transgender', we worry about Women's Rights!

PickleJelly · 04/06/2024 21:53

Keir Starmer has deflected so many questions, I wish he would just say what he will do and how he will do it.

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2024 21:53

Wewereonnabreak · 04/06/2024 21:41

So far Sunak is winning

What debate are you watching? 😂

Dymaxion · 04/06/2024 21:53

I prefer Sunak Both men are very rich so having a pop at Rishi is a bit rich.

Only one is richer than the King !

SuePreemly · 04/06/2024 21:53

MidnightPatrol · 04/06/2024 21:52

He ran a hedge fund

Which made millions after the global financial crash of 2008.

It's not rude, it's reality.
