Tonight's TV debate Sunak v Starmer - any predictions?

Anyone up for a watch thread? Maybe even debate bingo. I know I know, don't threaten me with a good time. (Bingo suggestions: natural party of business, Labour has no plan, end the chaos, Rayner will take over, assorted references to Starmer's time as DPP probably blaming for Jimmy Saville again, inflation is down etc etc.)

At this point I seriously doubt anything like this will remotely change the game Nick Clegg style. I read somewhere the only way Sunak could come out of this ahead in the polls is if Starmer pulled off a mask scooby-doo style to reveal he's Jeremy Corbyn, which admittedly would be great telly.

I'm so fed up with the endless rhetoric but will definitely watch later anyway.

thebillcollector · 04/06/2024 21:44

Quite.

He so smug and deflects every question. Shouts over and is just ruuuuude.

I would be shouting too if someone was just refusing to answer the questions

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:45

I'm interested in what KS says about Gaza it's pretty important to some of his seats

He said he would open a border force.
Employ teachers
Bring waiting times down

Sure but how

MagnetCarHair · 04/06/2024 21:46

Surely prosecuting smugglers would only be an effective solution there were an upper limit of smugglers and not a endless whackamole of thugs willing to give is a shot to make a fortune?

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:46

2 state solution ...

sandorschicken · 04/06/2024 21:46

Keir is simply embarrassing.

OneFrenchEgg · 04/06/2024 21:46

I know what you mean but I'm much more interested in what he has to say about this country.

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:47

Weird. Linking defence spending to Hamas?

PrincessofWells · 04/06/2024 21:47

Anxiousheartbeat · 04/06/2024 21:46

Sure but how

I think his government will have the civil service on side, which will be half the battle.

Starmer doesn’t believe in himself. He doesn’t believe what he is saying.

Wewereonnabreak · 04/06/2024 21:48

What job did Starmer do before? I’ve forgotten.

BIossomtoes · 04/06/2024 21:49

Fucking hell, that was low.

Hahahahah it’s one of the key phrases he’s been told to parrot.

he’s just been told these things to say specifically to avoid answering actual questions.

Their plan is to make everyone is the NHS work more hours! There are no new people.

Where are the teachers coming from? There is an exodus now…. And it isn’t just a Tory govt issue. It’s the level of shite teachers have to put up with from parents. And god help us when a great deal of the 7% privately-educated join the state system because a significant number of those places are for SEN kids and only the very poorest kids will be pushed out further. Absolute madness.

Allwelcone · 04/06/2024 21:49

Cheap shot about the CPS

Finleyandfigg · 04/06/2024 21:05

I just want someone to ask them to explain what a woman is.

Education, elder care and NHS way more important to the majority of normal working people. This country is in crisis with public services - children, health, education, mental health, the list goes on - in absolute crisis.

If your biggest worry is transgender then you're clearly insulated from the actual crisis.

Is brylcreem the secret winner of the debates or have they lost brand capital in this mess?

Hyperions · 04/06/2024 21:39

I prefer Sunak Both men are very rich so having a pop at Rishi is a bit rich.

Edited

Enjoyed this pun 😁

OneFrenchEgg · 04/06/2024 21:50

It's weird isn't it! Kind of 50s gelled look.

CaveMum · 04/06/2024 21:50

Why is Starmer citing prosecuting terrorist groups in his previous job rather than talking about what his plans for defence spending are?

I’m an undecided voter at the moment, a small-c conservative. Starmer is doing nothing to convince me why I should vote for Labour.
