Would you vote for this lot if they "protected women's rights"??

IMO, for millions this may be a deal breaker.

I'm all for equality and that stuff, etc. However, reading Labour stance on women rights Vs Conservatives stance on women's rights.

Will Labour voters who are ladies vote Conservatives just because of their stance on 'women's rights'?

Tories plan to amend Equality Act to protect single-sex spaces

Government considers manifesto pledge to overhaul New Labour’s equality laws in effort to protect women-only spaces and female sports

They would have to do a lot more than protect women's spaces in order to protect women's rights. They've not exactly helped women in the last 14 years.

I won't, no. I'm not stupid enough to have my vote swayed by a single issue.

I fundamentally disagree with just about all of their other policies. There are too many other issues to be addressed, some of which are (dare I say it), somewhat more inportant to this country as a whole at this point in time.

Thanks and fair comments

However, from what I've read here mainly, many women are fundamentally upset re Labour's outlook on women's rights and equality.

I'm safely guessing that Labour like any good politician/party will now throw in the dustbin re their previous stance on women's rights and equality. I'd eat my hat if they did not

As am I, but it is not the hill I am currently prepared to die on. Funnily enough though, Labour's official stance on this matter is not shared by my own (male) Labour MP.

In any case, one would hope and expect any sane political party to listen to the views of the electorate with regard to unpopular policies and adjust their position accordingly.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 26/05/2024 14:22

I will be voting Labour

Lifelikinotdothinki · 26/05/2024 14:25

I can’t bring myself to vote for Labour. I like the idea of protecting women’s safe spaces but I can’t bring myself to vote Conservative.

Women died so I can vote but I’m buggered if I know who to vote for.

I am far from happy with the Labour Party's stance on this issue, but frankly, anyone voting Tory because of women's rights is an idiot.

TheTories have done nothing for women over the last 14 years, and for all of the talk about legislating to protect single sex spaces, they have chosen not to prioritise this despite having a majority large enough to have easily pushed it through. The only conclusion I can draw from that is that it suits them very well to leave this issue unresolved so that they can carry on fuelling the culture wars which they believe will play to their advantage.

When you look at what the Tories have actually done to protect and promote women's rights since they have been in power, it's abundantly clear that they don't really give a toss, and it's just a cynical attempt to manipulate people who have valid concerns. Most intelligent voters will thankfully see straight through these tactics, only a few will fall for it.

SofaThrow · 26/05/2024 14:48

Not voting for either.

Cattenberg · 26/05/2024 14:51

I won’t vote Tory, but here it’s between the Tories and the Lib Dems and how on Earth am I supposed to vote Lib Dem? They treat feminism and women’s rights with contempt.

SiobhanSharpe · 26/05/2024 15:15

i can't vote for either of the two main parties as things stand. The Lib Dems and Greens are even worse on the subject of protecting women's rights/safe spaces, while at the same time actually furthering batshit gender ideology.
I will see what apprears in the election manifestos, usually published a couple of weeks before the actual election. If either party is equivocal on this I will vote for the Social Democrat party if there's a local candidate standing. The SDP has stated it is gender critical.
And for those who dismiss this as a single issue, I am a human being first and foremost but next I am a woman (with female relatives) and this 'single issue' goes to the heart of all our futures as women, and to those of our daughters and grand-daughters, with ramifications which will extend to all parts of our lives.

Health, education, employment and sport will all be affected if anyone who says they are a women is given access on demand to our spaces and opportunities. For example, equal pay for women will go out of the window as higher paid males (e.g. in IT, management in general ) who identify as women are included in the women's categories. Women's prizes and scholarships will effectively cease.
(I believe the fund set up after the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox to aid four or five women a year to get into politics has already been awarded to one or more transwomen. Not only wholly inappropriate but also disproportionate. )
The dread hand of Stonewall has already reached dismayingly far into public life with the NHS, Education unions and the Civil Service infected with 'Stonewall Law', i.e. gender ideology law as Stonewall would like it to be, and not as it is in reality.
As for safety/safe places; why do we have them at all? Because they are necessary.

Protect women's rights? The Tories?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

AutumnCrow · 26/05/2024 15:19

Why do you start so many separate threads, OP? They seem to be everywhere, all at once.

Tootiredforallthiscrap · 26/05/2024 15:39

Yet another pointless thread 😂

Women's rights are being eroded left, right and centre (see what I did there?), and it doesn't matter who is in power, it will take years to sort out the mess.

Meanwhile, the country is going to the dogs under Sunak. The economy is a shambles and public services are being cut to the bone. Never mind though, the rich can pay for private alternatives, and the poor? Since when have the Tories cared about them?

Bumblebee907 · 26/05/2024 19:05

Naaaa.

What with the fact they haven't.

I’m a disabled woman. The Tories don’t give a fuck about me, so no I won’t be voting for them. Ever.

Do you really think the Cass report would have been published under a Labour government?

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/05/2024 19:43

Anyone who votes Tory is not voting for women. They are voting for more damage, poverty and violence against women.

I know the naysayers will come on and say that Labour et al don't know what a woman is but I would counter this by saying that they care about women a damn sight more than the tories.

I don’t think they do. I’m beginning to think there isn’t a single politician who gives a flying fuck about women.

I haven't seen a copy of the Labour manifesto yet (as they haven't published it).

Are you able to share it so we can see their published stance please?

HandaFae · 26/05/2024 19:58

Yes, I will be voting Labour. No I won't be voting Conservative.

A right to a decent education is a right for everyone man or womanand we are certainly not getting that from the Conservatives.

Our children deserve the best education.

Elaan · 26/05/2024 20:00

I'm voting conservative solely on one issue. My prospective Tory MP in Reigate and Banstead is fully supportive of women's rights safeguarding
