General election 2024

AIBU to think no one agrees with conscription. Does Rushi want to loose the election? This feels like a threat not and election promise?

This has been popping up on my SM overnight. I feel like Rushinis doing his best to throw this election.

Who exactly thinks Conscription is a good idea and how would it work??

Rishi used to deliver prescriptions for his mum's pharmacy on his bike as a boy..

Good for him. I can’t imagine that took him away from a paid weekend job that meant he could afford going to university though.

I bet he delivered things about twice.

Actually rishi got his dad's help to buy a flat in Kensington in his first year as goldman sachs investment banking analyst..

Fast forward to 2024 and the guy viewing my flat in zone 3 NW London (nowhere near Kensington prices) is also an investment banking analyst...we bought our flat for 400k in 2019 and its not worth much more today (plus it is more than an hour door to door to canary wharf)..while rishi's old flat is now worth in excess of a million (he still has it solely for the use of guests).

This is the difference between having family money and no family money. Same job but very different prospects..

I read only appropriately 1 in 60 will choose military service.

That aside, for all the other hundreds of thousands of 18 and possibly 19 year olds, how are voluntary positions in the NHS/Fire/Police going to be found? Where is the manpower that is going to train them?

This on top of going to University, presumably which will be delayed at least a year to fit in this, and have lots of debt to their names on getting their degree, and they're expected to work for free for a year? Maybe tuition fees should be scrapped in that case.

The only ones in this country who had to do National Service are men currently aged 84/85 plus. It would be hypocritical to vote for those too young to have any choice in this matter.

There’s an average of 700,000 18yr olds
30,000 places for military NS, that’s for NEETs and those not working
voluntary for all others 2 days a month (weekends ) for a year.
both sexes.
