BBC Election Night coverage

Who do we think is likely to front this programme? At one time I would have said Huw Edwards but he's now out of the picture. I can't see David Dimbleby doing it again given his age, unless he really wants to. I hope it will be Sophie Raworth or Fiona Bruce, someone who's been round the block a few times. I expect the likes of Jeremy Vine, John Curtice and Nick Eardley will be doing their stuff too.

Laura K and Chris M are v dull. Hard pass on BBC if it’s them. Channel 4 looks much more interesting.

C4 is promising Emily Maitlis as well as Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart. I never thought I would desert the BBC but for this I might well do.

I'd like to see someone new have a go

I wouldn't. I'd like someone with experience who can share a bit of knowledge

pointythings · 27/05/2024 18:14

I'll be watching it on C4. No Tory pandering on there, and a crack team of interesting people. Quite looking forward to Rory Stewart's take on things!

GreenClock · 27/05/2024 22:51

I like the dark haired Welsh chap with the hearing aid.

LuluBlakey1 · 27/05/2024 22:57

I can't bear Laura Kuenssburg, Sophie Raworth or Fiona Bruce (apart from on Fake or Fortune) . They are all Tories.

Clive Myrie gets my vote, with Jo Coburn- otherwise I will be watching Channel 4.

CrushingOnRubies · 27/05/2024 23:21

Jeremy vine doing the swing-o-meter again?

Clive Myrie and Reeta Chakrabarti for the main bits

Turkeyhen · 27/05/2024 23:32

I always watch GEs on BBC but for that lineup I will switch to channel 4 (but am torn because what about john curtice? He is essential)

Wonkypictureframe · 27/05/2024 23:37

We are going C4 too. Interesting selection of presenters and their news has more energy and edge to it. BBC’s coverage has been off the boil for a while. Also (controversial I realise) DH has personal beef with John Curtice and resents his increasing ubiquity on there!

MaggieFS · 27/05/2024 23:39

C4 or Sky for us. Laura K has been the final nail in the coffin for my lifetime of on,y watching the BBC for news. I've been pleasantly surprised how I've been enjoying Sky's Electoral Disfunction pod.

Wonkypictureframe · 27/05/2024 23:41

I love Beth Rigby and Sam Coates but the election night coverage is going to be anchored by Kay Burley, who I just can’t watch, and they are also digging up Adam Boulton for the night.

OpusGiemuJavlo · 27/05/2024 23:42

I'd like it to be Rachel Parris (who did The Mash Report)

Zonder · 27/05/2024 23:44

If Kuenssberg is involved at all I'm going nowhere near the BBC. Same for Bruce. I bet it will be Rajan.

MaggieFS · 27/05/2024 23:45

Ah ok, if Sky is Kay Burley and dredged up Adam, then it makes it easy to pick C4.

HRTQueen · 27/05/2024 23:46

Maybe Amol Rajan

I really like him

GennyLec · 27/05/2024 23:50

I thought Laura K was already down for doing it. Might have imagined it, tbh.

Clive M would be great.

TakeOnFlea · 27/05/2024 23:56

Not watching Laura so...anything else really.

Blackcats7 · 26/05/2024 07:20

As long as Laura Kussenburg tory poster girl is nowhere near it. Although in some ways it would be nice to see her face as they are wiped out.

Ha ha wouldn’t it just!

For that reason alone I hope they choose her.

Totally disagree, Chris Mason, Adam Fleming and Laura kuenssberg are brilliant on newscast thoroughly recommend it. It would be great to see the three do the election night coverage

FiveFoxes · 28/05/2024 08:35

Pretty sure it is Laura as she said as much on Newscast.

I really like her and don't think she's biased. I think she has a questioning style which is less aggressive and which I actually prefer. Interviewing people isn't about shouting over them. It's about asking them the difficult questions and listening to their answers before asking a follow up if necessary. Emma Barnet and Victoria Derbyshire shout at people to make themselves look like 'tough'.

Anyway, election night coverage isn't really about interviewing people - it's about reporting what's going on and what it means.

If you don't want to watch it, you can be part of it by signing up to count the votes at your local borough council.

Wonkypictureframe · 28/05/2024 08:39

I don’t have a problem with Laura K either but I find Jeremy Vine unwatchable. The C4 line up is mostly appealing although Alistair Campbell is not my favourite.

But the BBC is not our only broadcaster. It’s not a choice between watching them or nothing!

Agree about Laura

Turkeyhen · 28/05/2024 08:41

@FiveFoxes I would love to count votes or work at a polling station but there are no vacancies for any election related jobs at my local council 🤔

@Turkeyhen My council doesn't advertise them as normal jobs, you have to either look at their elections webpage and hunt for the information or email their elections department. I would be very very surprised if your council has no space for you!

Turkeyhen · 28/05/2024 08:46

@FiveFoxes thank you, I will get in touch with them Flowers
