Thoughts? I think Rishi is even more desperate now.

BIWI · 25/05/2024 22:16

Thinking about it, it's in the same kind of league of suggesting that we should bring back hanging.

<watches space>

Cattenberg · 25/05/2024 22:17

I think Rishi should make all UK citizens do national service in order to improve the quality of the public.

Bluebell247 · 25/05/2024 22:17

Not for me.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 25/05/2024 22:17

I think National Service is a great idea in theory and would massively benefit today’s teens, but I don’t think they would implement it effectively at all. It would probably end up a huge waste of money.

In what way?

He is trying to bring reform back into the fold. That or Dad's army.

No! I haven’t even been on that thread.

I think the idea is ridiculous. Much like most of what sunak says, it's performative. He says it for affect, he's got no rational or determination to implement it.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/05/2024 22:22

Thoughts? The Tories are absolutely desperate.

I know it’s not just for the armed forces, however the armed forces themselves don’t want National Service. It won’t work in the modern world and won’t do anything to help with the massive recruitment and retention crisis that they have.

sprigatito · 25/05/2024 22:22

Yeah this is just another cynical attempt to mop up the gammon vote. Beneath contempt.

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 25/05/2024 22:23

It wouldn't benefit young people - and is not intended to - and is an outdated idea. That ship has sailed, it is 2024 not 1924.

I think the public are too weak for ideas like this.

It's the sort of policy you propose when you know you're not going to enact it. It's just hot air.

Hahaha

BobnLen · 25/05/2024 22:25

So alongside university, how will that work.
Obviously he really doesn't want to get back into government, must have something lined up

The quality of the public what?

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 25/05/2024 22:27

BIWI · 25/05/2024 22:26

The quality of the public what?

Perhaps the public toilets, if the weekend option involves cleaning them?

Starting with his Conservative MP’s….

We could do with improving many of them. 😆

Monkey tennis! Inner City Sumo! Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank!

Salacia · 25/05/2024 22:33

Army recruitment is in such a mess they can’t even process applications from people who want to join. If this ever actually got implemented it would be a complete shambles. Not to mention the timing with things looking increasingly hostile and unstable across Europe and the Middle East, suppose they’ll need the cannon fodder (not that Rishi’s children would ever be at risk).

Same day labour is talking about lowering the voting age the Tories want to go back to an imaginary bygone era in a desperate bid to win some votes back from reform. And people still claim they’re all the same?

Noras · 25/05/2024 22:33

I think that in context of all the other messages eg stock pile and prepare for emergencies etc there is a feeling of 1970s when we had to prepare for a war. It’s all quite alarming.

As it is, the army is small, elite and highly professional and does not want a bunch of kids messing things up.

However it might be one way to end migration when it ends up in conscription

There are serious issues with Russia and China and their alliance etc and one thing they have is manpower.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/05/2024 22:34

Yet more “stuff only the gerontocracy are into” from the tories. Full on twats.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2024 22:35

National Service😂

Hes really scraping the barrel isn’t he? Who wants that shit for their kids?
