To think the UK will become a barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, hell-scape if Labour win?

Fiftypencepiece · 24/05/2024 13:02

AIBU to be worried that within 2-3 years of a Labour victory, the UK will become a barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian hell-scape?

Kier Starmer seems like a mad, leftist radical to me. It starts with VAT on school fees but where does it end???

I’m also really concerned that the imminent collapse of civilisation will have a big impact on house prices, and leave us in negative equity.

Anyone else?

I listen to most of the speeches of big political actors and its quite clear to me that Russia wants no threats on its borders and otherwise good trade relations. Even if we don't like what Russia does or how it goes about its business, we are a tiny island nation in Europe and Russia is our nearest and biggest food exporter. We simply don't have the ability to keep up this 'oh well you do things I don't like so we snub you' honestly. The majority of oils and grains fed to farms in the Eu are from Ukraine and now the grain deal is over, we need to start making our own deals even if we don't like the people selling the grain.

Britain just isn't a large enough or influential enough player to be picky right now.

Well, I agree that we have an overinflated sense of our own importance in the world which is heavily reliant on regurgitating stories of WWI and WWII. I agree we need a different model. But I don't agree that the best or only solution is to turn to a nation which has some very questionable behaviours and ambitions - I'm not sure how you can buy the line that the Russian government just wants to be allowed to exist peacefully. Which 'big political actors' are you listening to, and how are you balancing out the messages that they're trying to transmit?

You’re right @Fiftypencepieceit’s a catastrophe im Planning on stockpiling baba ganoush I’ve cancelled the housemaid leave she’s making artisan stew to freeze. I’ll need to down size my groceries from fortunm & mason to Waitrose.

The ponies will have to eat value hay

piano teacher weekly as opposed to daily

i suppose I’ll have to consider some ghastly London day school, slum it at Westminster. Dear god how will the children cope

kier is a heathen, I mean he lives in a terrace house. Adjacent neighbours on either side. How very gauche

DragonFly98 · 24/05/2024 19:10

They tried that approach with the 1997 election , keep up op.

What worries me is that ALL OF OUR CHILDREN will be forced to identify as cheetahs at school. Apart from when it is drag queen club on a Thursday lunchtime (on the school field if sunny; in the woodwork room if wet.)

Bloody woke politicians. .

SauronsArsehole · 24/05/2024 19:16

I’ve been waiting to go all mad max so bring it. My inner Furiosa needs the chaos.

Far too much to go into context here. But I only hear war-mongering from people like James Cleverly or Joe Biden. I would always recommend people listen to all actors involved in world politics and base their judgements on what is said and done rather than journo or political spin.

But even if everything parroted about Russia/China is true, I simply don't believe that Britain is in any position to push a narrative that we are above anyone else when it comes to foreign policy or colonialism. Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, most of Africa... I could go on.

If we want to survive the massive shifts in the world currently and not just be eating turnips in the cold, we really need to take advantage of the large food exporter to our east. Especially when the food exported has exceptionally high standards, which I think we all want to keep.

Funny post and funny thread 😂😂 thank you - needed a laugh!

No and are you OK hon

Nottodaythankyou123 · 24/05/2024 19:25

You almost had me until the last paragraph 😂

Blackcats7 · 24/05/2024 19:25

I think this is what that dear sweet little man Rishi was trying to warn us about in saying we need to stockpile food and water. We must keep the valiant tories in power to save us all!

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 24/05/2024 19:26

Polishedshoesalways · 24/05/2024 19:19

Ha ha 😂 exceptionally high standards…

Russia has banned GMO crops in entirety and also has very, very high welfare standards for animals. Similar, if not better, than the UK and Eu.

Please research this before dismissing everything as negative 'because Russia' as its simply not true in this situation. My focus is on the UK being functional in a changing world and I don't see any option other than us allowing food exports from the East. After all we did try to have food exports from Canada (America through the back door) and we would have had to suffer such a decline in standards that the deal fell through. We have limited options of where to import food and in my opinion it is cutting off our nose to spite our face to decide not to consider Russia.

I’m planning on watching the Mad Max films to prepare but I’m not sure whether to watch them in order of release or in chronological order of when they are set.

You can skip half of them, but I strongly recommend watching 'Fallout' on Amazon Prime.

BIossomtoes · 24/05/2024 18:35

They were best for anyone who needed the NHS.

No they weren't for everyone. I had a horrid experience giving birth in 2002 due to severe neglect and incompetence. Both my mother and father in law died at the hands of the NHS neglect and incompetence in 2008 and 2010, and in my FIL's case, that was after two long admittances a few years apart where animals wouldn't have been allowed to be treated so badly. One of my local hospitals is where the "Whistle in the Wind" author was working and having read his book about that hospital, I can well believe it re the incompetence and cover ups and the author being forced out whilst the doctors he reported for incompetence continue to work as doctors!!

EmilyTheCriminal · 24/05/2024 19:30

This is brilliant.

I'm particularly enjoying the responses from people who didn't get the joke.

Amista77 · 24/05/2024 19:31

@IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour Completely agree we're not above anyone else, and have contributed to a huge amount of shit around the world. And I'm definitely not advocating US foreign policy as a guiding principle. But I would definitely say that you can't just listen to the politicians - they are ALL trying to sell you the version of themselves that smells sweetest. Read the independent commentators, seek out book (not just journos). I hugely recommend Catherine Belton's book about Putin, for a start.

Lifeomars · 24/05/2024 19:31

Hi Nadine, hope the lambrini is slipping down easily and that you are not still pining for Boris

MichaelAndEagle · 24/05/2024 19:32

Seems quite a few may have missed the joke. But maybe that says something about some of the serious posts on here that aren't that far from the OP?!

therealcookiemonster · 24/05/2024 19:34

Britain is already a hellhole. 14 years of tory government did that. not sure if Labour is going to get us out but either way they are getting in

anyway @Fiftypencepiece or should I say rishi, why do you care? you will just jet off back to the US the day after the election

Is this Laurence Fox? Or Katie Hopkins? Someone of that ilk. Not a deep thinker that's for sure. Get help, OP.

You can mock me, but you won’t be laughing when your house is forcibly requisitioned by the state to be converted into a collectivist art therapy centre.

Edited

sounds great. as long as they use my shit amateur art work as part of their displays
