Im an apple fan.
I have a mac. And an iPad. And have had an iPhone since the beginning.
But the love affair is over.... At least with the phone.... I think!

I've been waiting for the 5 to arrive, in order to replace my dying iPhone, for the best part of a year. But now wondering if there's a better alternative.

I like to take photos, mumsnet surf the net, text/call.....the usual.

My brother was talking about a new Nokia. Or the most recent Samsung?

What else could I buy?

NetworkGuy · 20/09/2012 23:50

Sorry, Aitch, but *> here

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 21/09/2012 00:26

it did seem unlikely, to be fair. although i've seen rumours that stevie b has said it'll ship for about 400 bucks, and i'd be happy enough with that.

BUT. is it worth waiting until oct 26th to find out when i really really really want something now?

any advice, NG?

Interesting thread.

I have ordered my iPhone 5 though. Did it last night, and with the amount ill get for my iPhone 4, I'll actually save money.

With regard to the EE network, if you are already on Orange or T Mobile, you'll automatically get chance to switch with no change to tariff, as they are the parent company. So will be able to run on 4g.

NetworkGuy · 21/09/2012 12:34

Out of interest, how much will you get for your iPhone 4, and from which firm, please?

PseudoBadger · 21/09/2012 13:22

Just upgraded and my iPhone 5 is on order :o

NetworkGuy · 22/09/2012 13:32

Just spotted an article *> here

PseudoBadger · 22/09/2012 14:19

Well take £500 off the stated price in that article, and it's safe to say they haven't made that much off me!

NetworkGuy · 22/09/2012 16:06

They probably will if you consider being locked in for maybe 24 months paying say 25 quid a month (where a chunk of the money {will have been/ will be} paid to Apple for the device).

Nearly every phone deal where you get something 'free' is just masking the amounts you pay for each portion of the package.

Hello guys!

Lots of apple fans seems here! I am apple fan too! But this time apple's iphone 5 disappointed me.I want to stuck with my Iphone 4! :)

General consensus seems to be that the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, are the two phones to look at first. The S3 has a much bigger screen than than the iPhone 5, but if that still wasn't big enough, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is well worth a look as a hybrid phone / mini tablet.

If you really want to dare to be different, take a look at the Nokia Lumia 800 running Windows software (but don't let that put you off) which is actually really fun and easy to use. Nokia are bringing out a batch of new Lumia phones in the next couple of weeks, but there are some great bargains to be had with the current range. O2 are doing the Lumia 800 on PAYG for £150.

It's well worth a look as a third alternative to iPhones and Galaxies.
