Im an apple fan.
I have a mac. And an iPad. And have had an iPhone since the beginning.
But the love affair is over.... At least with the phone.... I think!

I've been waiting for the 5 to arrive, in order to replace my dying iPhone, for the best part of a year. But now wondering if there's a better alternative.

I like to take photos, mumsnet surf the net, text/call.....the usual.

My brother was talking about a new Nokia. Or the most recent Samsung?

What else could I buy?

I know Duchesse but I was fed up with the iPhone- it wasn't just the cost of the package. There was no memory left and I had to delete all my music to make space for apps. I ended up giving it to DS2 )with a PAYG SIM with no money on it) so he can use it as an iPod touch and play games.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 13/09/2012 14:30

I fear judging from the responses on this thread that Apple are heading into trouble

I bet I'll still have to wait eleventy million years to get an iPhone 5 though :o

xMinerva · 13/09/2012 14:32

I'll always be an apple fan but I'm not so excited about the iPhone 5.

I did have an iPhone but sold it as we needed money but between Dp and I we still have an iPad, mac, and a iPhone 4s (dp's).

Not sure I'm too fussed about getting a new iPhone. My cheap LG touchscreen thingy phone does the job for calls and texts. The iPad or mac does the rest.

I hate Samsung so won't ever get one. And android is crap judging by my LG.

Think I'll be sticking with what we have.

TunaPastaBake · 13/09/2012 14:42

I'm still on a 3GS Sad

SunWukong · 13/09/2012 17:32

I value my space, my family are hordes, if somethings not getting used take it to charity shop.

I mean you don't moan about food you buy that use it and its gone, if you've had pleasure from it I fail to see why it would hold you back from a decision to change/tie you to the company.

was anyone really that bothered about buying there video collection again on DVD/BR? I wasn't.

SunWukong · 13/09/2012 17:36

*hoarders

The new Nokia Lumias are much cooler and the new Android phones technically a lot ahead of iPhones.

My iPhone 4 is messy with apps and the welcome screen is years behind Android phones, the battery life is terrible (I feel I'm without phone access half the time) and when the battery goes out it does not wake up immediately - have spent countless anxious inconvenient minutes waiting

I used to have a Samsung and hated it. So unintuitive, I had it for a long time and it never learned to understand me.

Tobermory · 13/09/2012 19:05

Going to work s too inconvenient....missing posts and my thread 'discussion of that day'. Woohoo!

I see I'm not alone. A lot of people ready to move on.

It feels quite weird having had the same kind of phone for years to think about something new. How on earth do I find out which i prefer and indeed which is 'better'

I have to wait don't I?.
Wait till Nov time for the new Nokia to come out and see which I prefer.

My oh is a total technology freak and he hates with a passion Apple . He has said for a while that android will take over . He has the HTC evo 3d and I have the samsung galaxy s3....
its fab :) ultra fast , ultra slim and easy to use. I had the 3gs for a week or so and Hated it, replaced it with the s2, both the s2 and the s3 come highly recommended.

Lolwhut · 13/09/2012 19:19

Got back from buying DS1 an IPhone 4, they are £319, over a hundred quid cheaper than yesterday. Happy not to have bought the IPhone 5.

bunnywhack · 13/09/2012 19:56

Are apple that much better considering the price hike? Not to mention the new stuff that comes out year on year so that is 5 different iphones and 3 different ipads now are there even that much difference between the models themselves to warrant forking out for the latest one each time. Is it just the name?

Londonista1975 · 13/09/2012 22:10

I'm very happy with my iPhone 4S and won't bother selling it to get the 5, the differences between the two just aren't worth it, same as with the iPad 2 and the latest one.

OhlimpPricks · 13/09/2012 23:53

I love my iPad. Looked at lots of phones when I upgraded, but the Samsung Galaxy 3 beat the iPhone hands down. Better sound, great photo and stunning video camera. If you are texting someone, and then decide you can't be arsed, if you lift it up and hold it to your ear, and it dials that person Grin

Plus - you can buy a 64gb memory card for about £20, so you can add extra memory. And the battery is changeable, so you can buy a spare for a fiver, and keep it in your bag, in case you ever run out of juice.

I have a Bose soundwave and can connect my S3 to it wirelessly, to play my spotify collection, so can change music from any room in the house.

The galaxy 3 is worth serious consideration. Remember that Samsung actually manufacture the iPhone for apple...

D0oinMeCleanin · 13/09/2012 23:58

Samsung Galaxy Note. Everyone needs one. You don't realise you need one until you have one, but you do need one. You really need a Galaxy Note.

OhlimpPricks · 14/09/2012 00:02

I only got me iPad 3 , 6 months ago, so can't justify a new tablet yet, but would def consider it, as Samsung have won me over with the galaxy 3.

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/09/2012 00:05

The Galaxy Note is a phone, well according to Samsung it is the closest you can get to a tablet without actually being a tablet.

The new one the Note 5 I think? Is a tablet.

This is my baby

MoreCynicalEsmeWeatherwax · 14/09/2012 00:05

I just got a Samsung Galaxy S2 - I am in love. I loved my HTC before this, but this is just something else.

TheWonderfulFanny · 14/09/2012 00:14

Dooin - it is a phablet

I have one Grin

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/09/2012 00:17

I've had mine since they first came out and I am still ridiculously excited by it Grin

I thought I loved my Desire (my fisrt every smart phone) but this pisses on the Desire and my sister's iphone 4 from a great height.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 14/09/2012 00:48

but look at the sizes of the notes, though, they're RIDICKULUSS

ORANGEgiraffesCantWearGOLD · 14/09/2012 03:54

going to get a galaxy s3 over an iphone I think.

niceguy2 · 14/09/2012 09:59

but look at the sizes of the notes, though, they're RIDICKULUSS

Ha ha, the way I look at it is that everyone else's phone is too darn small!

After using my Note as my primary phone I think I will really struggle to move to anything with a smaller screen. How I used to surf on my iphone I will never ever know! The entire iphone 4 is smaller than the screen on my Galaxy Note!

OH says I look like the guy from Trigger Happy TV but I think she's just jealous Wink

slug · 14/09/2012 10:40

Typical man thinking bigger means better Hmm Wink

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/09/2012 10:48

I'm with niceguy2 on this (I think your Oh is jealous too, my sister is the same Wink) My Note seemed really big and uncomfortable for the first week, after that I also wondered how I have ever coped with a smaller screen.

It's great for Kindle App, browsing and I keep a few children's movies on there for use in an emergency. The battery life being so good means they get to watch Phineas and Ferb, Scooby Doo 2 and Aqaumarine before the battery dies, which makes my phone a god send on long public transport trips. I can fit all of those films on and apps and ebooks and music and pictures and eleventy million text messages and don't get that annoying message I used to get on my Desire telling my "memory is at a critical stage" or whatever it used to say when it would refuse to install an App.

Sallyingforth · 14/09/2012 11:18

The Samsung S3 is a wonderful device and does things that the i5 still hasn't caught up with.
