pc and a profile with reference to things she like including a user name. There is more info too about the inside of our home, and tbh i am rather freaked out.

we were googling for a site to see how popular our names were.

the site Deviant art is one i 'may' have liked or been linked too by my best friend on facebook. DD is totally adamant it's not her.

it's me and her here. noone has access to our home or pc/laptop.

shit.

How did you deactivate the deviantart account if it's not hers? Wouldn't you have to be logged in to do that? Xmas Confused

shakeitright · 02/01/2012 13:05

Do you clear your browser history? If not,you could find out if this site has been accessed from your computers.

piratecat · 02/01/2012 13:18

ok have downloaded and will run the malware. looked in my avg vault yesterday, and did another full scan and the only thing there in the virus vault was

details of threat that was thought to be Malware
ouc.exe
time of creation 25/09/11
C:\Programmefiles\t-mobile.

when i got this laptop in 2010 it came with the dongle which i have never used. installed it, yes, but signal was terrible, hence i synched the orange live box up.

I,m not getting at you, only want to help.I can understand the shock at what you found especially as your daughter is only 9.
I can help you with your computer settings, but need to know exactly what av and malware programmes you have installed. Also did you leave Remote access on or did you turn it off.

piratecat · 02/01/2012 13:26

ok

i put her username in the thingy to try and log in. i had no password of course, so I asked for it to be reset. they confirmed an email had been sent to the email provided when account set up.

I went into dd's user on laptop. there was the different desktop piccy. at that time i didn't know it tho. went onto IE and her hotmail inbox was there, open. This is the hotmail I closed down in august. There was no email from deviant art. Of course not i thought, i closed it down. ok i'll see if i can reacivate it. I did so, and then the link came through from D art. Followed that back to the site, reset the password, and was in.

Then followed the instructions to deactivate. thing is after 5 goodbyes are you sure you want to leave us, her pics are still there if you search her user name, as are all her comments. If you click on her user name on a general page, you get 'this user is deactivated'.
I checked the page about what happens when you leave ,and everything is meant to go, comments pics the lot. Confused

remote access was turned off. networkguy made sure i changed my password for it, one he didn't know obviously.

ok i have AVG on here, the laptop. spybot is on the pc upstairs with avg. historywise everything is cleared from dd's user on lappy. she has no idea what history is. when i went in to look there was nothing. i would have expected something.
nothing on my history on the lappy. there is history to deviant art on the upstairs pc for november. i need to look more on there. we never use the pc. now we have the lappy. the deviant art history is there amongst history of her egypt project which we were both doing becuase we needed to print out and the printer is only connected to the pc. I have asked dd if she has been on d art on upstairs pc (the one that did have remote access that time in 2010) and she says no. i belive her, she has been glued to her ds for the last 3 months in any spare time.

have you got an ex on the scene? anychance they could have installed spyware or keylogger somehow?

piratecat · 02/01/2012 13:46

there is an ex dh. who has no contact with dd. he knows her old hotmail addy, the one i cancelled. dd tried to instigate contact again this yr but he let her down.

noone has access to any pc lappy in the home except us. is that what you mean by being able to install a key logger?

there is a bloke i fell out with last yr. he would know some of the details on the deviant art site. but not the one's about the name of our new cat. a name we changed anyway after a week. i didn't even post that name or any name on fb. saying this because he used to be a fb contact.

Do you use ccleaner?Running that will delete history.

RebeccaMumsnet · 02/01/2012 13:49

Hi piratecat,

What a horrid thing to happen, fingers crossed that you get it sorted asap.

Mailing Deviant Art should help, they may be able to check the IP etc?

We have removed a few of your earlier posts. If you suspect a fellow poster, please do mail us and we can deal with it at HQ rather than posting about it.

We do hope that you can get to the bottom.

Best wishes

shakeitright · 02/01/2012 13:53

I would install and run that Malwarebytes on both the laptop and pc,it will detect if there is a keylogger. It surprised me that Remote access is enabled by default, you have to turn it off yourself.

piratecat · 02/01/2012 14:07

hi hq, so sorry about that. i should have reported them myself. just clutching at straws. wasn't a suspect as such as more of a time when there might have been a way in. but my god it was 2010 anyway.

i have sent 2 emails to deviantart, there is no way of knowing when they will get back to me. her pics are still there. being techy, do you think it's a matter of time.

OP posts:
piratecat · 02/01/2012 14:09

shakeitright, i have actually deleted my own history a few times when on my user, so i guess that would also delete dd user, as i am the 'administrator' of the pc?

sorry to sound so thick.

of the lappy i mean.

OP posts:
piratecat · 02/01/2012 14:19

ok am at pc. we have ad aware, malwarebytes, Mcafee and avg on here. but of course it's rarely used as we are never on the pc.

will do ckecks now.

OP posts:
piratecat · 02/01/2012 14:31

have two trojanhorse downloader.banloadbbdv in avg vault. if you click on them there's no details that will come up, only options to restore them or delete them.

avg has been doing its scans daily, on the scan results overview i cannot see anything infected right back to 08/11/2010. thats as far as it goes.

OP posts:
shakeitright · 02/01/2012 14:41

You shouldnt have Mcaffee and avg, both are av,s and may conflict with each other.I would delete one of them.

piratecat · 02/01/2012 14:45

yep, the mcafee always used to say 'use me use' and i never did from what i recall. will get rid.

To enhance your security you could add Threatfire to your security suite. It does not conflict with AVG. Instead of looking at heuristics (the manner in which suspect programs are coded) it works on how a program attempts to access data on your pc and blocks them from doing so. I use it in conjunction with Avast and Superantispyware, and my pc is clean. If you try to download Threatfire and it won't install, it's probably because you have an infection: it will only install on a clean pc. Threatfire updates automatically, even the free version. No, I don't work for them, I just evangelise about security stuff that seems to work for me.
Oh yes, I also use CCleaner.

piratecat · 04/01/2012 11:29

well deviant art have said they can't give out the IP address due to privacy law. unless they are supeonered (sp) by a law enforcement officer.

the account was set up under my dds deacctivated hotmai, in july, and of course that point to her, but i know someone has used her hotmail.

so i will just leave it.

i was able to trace the devaint art to references of her moshi monster user name, and there were many postings in the summer made in her name but not by her. One posting was made with a very adult ref to deviant art. It being the summer hols noone asked her 'hey what are you on about' ie in school, the people on her friends list who are mainly her school mates ( about 10).

I will be deacctivating her moshi monsters account becuase somehow this imposter has also allowed 100 new people to be friends!
