It looks so lovely I want to sit and stroke it. But it needs to charge first Angry

So a quick question - the first of many...

Is there any point getting a newspaper app on it or will it be too small to have any point and I should just stick to reading the news on the web like BBC news?

Can you cut an paste from say text or email into internet or calendar. I can;t work out how to do it but I want for example to cut and paste someones address into Jorte (seems good so far) and just can't work out how to do it - surely you must be able to?

I have a Desire Z - the one with the pop-out keyboard which i find v useful as don't like just using the screen to write longer messages

girls love Draw to keep them busy. and Talking Tom and Teeter (already on phone)

I don't like Pulse it seems full of American tosh am going to ditch it.

LoonyRationalist · 13/05/2011 13:02

to copy you hold down on the section to copy until it goes green. you can then adjust the area to cut at each end and click the copy option - (looks like 2 pages, far left) to paste hold down on a blank space and the option to paste will appear. Haven't used Jorte so I don't know if it works here, but it should do.

Kewcumber · 13/05/2011 13:54

will try that.

Is it true that I can use my desire as a wireless router?

OP posts:
LoonyRationalist · 13/05/2011 19:13

Yes to wireless router, go to settings, wireless & networks and enable portable wi-fi hotspot. Drains the battery like nothing else though. If you just want to use it for a laptop etc it works much better connected with the usb cable - choose the "share internet connection option" from the options which display when you connect it.

Kewcumber · 13/05/2011 21:28

Want to use it at my mums caravan so no problem keeping it plugged in so as no to drain the battery. I assume it charges via the of if its connected his USB. Does it really work, I don't want to invest in a cheap laptop to find that it isn't much cop?

Yes, it's in the network settings under portable wifi hotspot.

Thanks for the tips for home vs back and folders tips. I don't have any specific tips but I love:
Swype
Astro file manager
B-folders (password manager)
Evernote

I'm tempted by all the personalisation stuff, but how do you all manage not to run out of storage on the desire? I've moved as much as I can to the SD card, have a cache cleaner and yet am still constantly on the limit. Or perhaps I've just got too much crap apps?

Kewcumber · 14/05/2011 11:44

Can't find swype on market. Where is it hiding?

OP posts:
IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 14/05/2011 11:47

You have to register on the swype website. It's not in the market.

niceguy2 · 14/05/2011 22:11

Well I've done it.....I've ordered the new HTC Sensation!

Cracking deal from Vodafone with £130 cashback via Quidco and a 20% discount on monthly rental via my company employee benefits.

The phone looks AWESOME and hoping it will convert me from my Apple ways. I can return it within 7 days thanks to DSR so will have a week to put the phone through its paces!

Am excited now! Grin

follyfoot · 14/05/2011 22:14

Should I get an HTC? Contract up soon, and dont want an iphone as am broke being sensible and reducing my minutes .

siilk · 14/05/2011 22:26

Jst marking my place. I am about to take the plung and get a Deaire HD..... I think!

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 15/05/2011 06:29

Would definitely recommend a desire. Have heard from some that an HD is not a good as the original. Maybe good to check on somewhere like tech radar. Certainly know that it is quite big and heavy.

niceguy2 · 15/05/2011 09:11

Siik. I would recommend not getting the Desire HD. It's a gorgeous looking phone but the battery life totally sucks. A friend of mine who is a total Android nerd and has been trying to convert me forever even told me to go for another phone.

The leading Android phones at the moment are the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation (well next week).

Extremely good phones are the HTC Desire S & the Sony Xperia Arc.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 15/05/2011 09:23

I have the desire Hd as an insurance replacement for the desire.

They are both ok. Hd is quite a bit bigger (but lighter). It doesn't seem to 'do' more so I wouldn't necessarily pay more for it. don't notice battery life issues but then I charge it every day like I did my desire, and I know that there are issues on paper.

Kewcumber · 18/05/2011 23:05

I love my desire

OP posts:
frankie3 · 19/05/2011 19:32

I have a desire and I am really loving it. Just wondered how much the phone can store in terms of apps..... I don't understand how to store things on the SD card or if it is necessary.

upahill · 19/05/2011 19:43

yes it is necessary to store on SD.
You will soon run out of space if you don't.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/05/2011 19:46

I'm out of space anyway. Bought a 32gb sd card which has loads of space still on it. But also seem to have stuff that can't be transferred to sd card. Have a phone to sd app which transfers most things but some things don't seem to be able to be moved.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/05/2011 19:47

I must admit I'm totally eyeing up a Samsung Galaxy S for my next phone.

frankie3 · 19/05/2011 20:00

How do you store things on the SD card? And what type of apps take up the most space?

VivaLeBeaver · 19/05/2011 20:03

You can get an app called app 2 sd. You install that app and then just click on it, it then highlights all the apps that can be transferred and you click transfer.

Apps are all different sizes, I think the dolphin bowser is one of my biggest.

niceguy2 · 19/05/2011 22:33

I think in gingerbread (v2.3) phones, you can move apps to SD without installing any additional applications. It's certainly an option on my OH's Desire.

That said it's worth noting that not all apps can be moved and even when they can be, it doesn't look like the entire app goes over.

Kewcumber · 19/05/2011 23:23

on a desire you just go into Menu/settings/applications then you cn go into an individual app and choose move to sd card. don't know if yo ucan movethem in bulk though
