Artificial grass - yes or no?

ChicagoBears · 01/05/2023 21:40

I have a substantial garden, some has porcelain tiles but it’s mostly loose stone which looks bare and is difficult to use so I was considering artificial grass.

I know there’s lots of grades of grass, I’d opt for the premium grade but wanted to garner opinion, what (if any) are the drawbacks of artificial grass? Will I love to regret it?

Our ecosystem would be non existent if everybody decided to put down fake grass.

Luckily most people aren't putting down fake grass. So that's good, isn't it? Likewise, many people are making other efforts to help the ecosystem. As I mentioned a while ago, our garden now attracts many more birds than it did beforehand because I created a border that wasn't there before with wildlife and bird attracting plants and trees. Also, despite every other person on our street paving their front gardens, I am keeping ours as real grass despite not having a parking space as a result (which would massively help). Not everything is blindly right or wrong.

So plenty of articles on the internet lie about how awful it is for the ecosystem and the environment?

Enlighten me on this information please.

Go yell at the CEO of BP if you want to do something about the environment.
One of the top polluters in the world.

I'm on about fake grass, not BP.

If you could share some facts why you think fake grass is good for our ecosystem, go ahead.

Oh yes. There isn't any.

BP famously only make products for their board members and executive elite, certainly no masses utilise products made from, or as consequence of, petroleum extraction.

You've clearly never walked on it and it certainly doesn't feel hot to walk on in the summer heat. It feels very soft and silky to walk on.

Plenty of articles on the internet just flat out lie too.

There is nothing better than lovely summer's day sitting in the garden with bare feet, feeling real grass in between your toes.

The smell of freshly cut grass too is priceless.

I just hope your dog doesn't have any accidents on your fake grass, like pees or poos on it etc
In time that will smell.🤢🤢

No it does not . As long as you pick up poo. And pee soaks away . Plus you can hose it as well. Dogs also wee and poo on real grass

Yes, but have you considered plastic doesn't grow, therefore I don't need to cut it, therefore I don't need a mower, therefore I don't use more petrol/electricity.

It's a clear win for the environment. We should roll this "grass" out to every greenbelt area to reduce council upkeep costs and allergies, which is a win for the NHS too.

For too long the tyranny of grass has been tolerated. No more.

What utter garbage you're spouting.

Have you heard of a handmower? The power of pushing it yourself to cut the lawn, without using electricity.
Shock horror, they exist!

Let us all put fake grass in our gardens. Humans will die off as our ecosystem which keeps us alive will die and take us with it.

Humans are the worst for this planet. Utter selfish arseholes we all are.

Real grass soaks it up. Fake grass it just sits there, the smell. 🤢🤢 Soaks in, not soaks it up.

It depends on the subbase that's used under the fake grass also the type of fake grass

You can't convince me the people I see on the street could push an empty shopping cart for more than ten minutes without myocardial infarction, and you're telling me humans can push a mower that does work? Like in the Victorian times?

Get outta here.

Yes this heat argument is getting really annoying, in the heatwave last year it was nowhere near as hot as the patio, sand etc. It was perfectly easy to stand on barefoot in full baking sun. Maybe we have some sort of magic fake grass 🤔

You must have, plastic that doesn’t get hot in the sun, that’s a total scientific marvel and first . Best you write to the national geographic and new scientist, and let them know about this phenomenon as magic plastic grass you’ve got going on there,.

Wtf are you even going on about. 🙄🙄

Let us mess with our ecosystem.
That will cause all humans to die because of it, and frankly that is a good idea if everyone thought the same way as you do.

I mean, I already said we should pump as much plastic as possible out there. I'm trying my best!

I didn't say it didn't get hot, just that it didn't burn like everyone else is insisting.

Liebig you're making me giggle 🤣🤣

What's wrong with a push mower? We had one in the 2000s when I was a child... it was fine? Why bother gardening when you can pave over everything? It's part of the fun of having a garden

I have a gorgeous vintage Webb push mower/roller so I can do traditional stripes on my lawn. It's bloody fab!

whenthelightsgoout · 03/05/2023 05:46

@ChicagoBears you could always look into a robotic lawnmower? We have one. We haven't cut the grass in over a year and it looks lovely.

OddsocksinmyDocs · 03/05/2023 07:17

I'm not sure why everybody is saying it gets so hot? Even when we had the high temps last year, mine was warm but not scorching hot?
