We've had siskins for the first time this week, now daily visitors

GreyShepherd · 01/04/2023 10:01

I've seen a robin and a wren this morning. My family of blue tits fledged yesterday. My nest boxes are used every year.

The weather has been a bit savage down here this morning so far fewer than usual.
Tiny new build urban garden that I have planted but everything is baby still..
I saw a tit clinging to a branch,
several sparrows lined up on the fence
the usual pigeons
we often get black birds bathing in the water feature

We're in Dorset. Moved house last year and have been trying to improve our garden to encourage birds ever since. So satisfying when we get someone new arrive!

We are really happy to see our swallows have come back again - just arrived yesterday. It's their 4th year with us, and so wonderful to see them swooping around the garden.

Which birds have been in your garden so far today?
GreyShepherd · 01/04/2023 10:44

Yes very early OP. They came back during that spell of very mild weather. Not warm, Northern England.

parklimes · 01/04/2023 11:33

Magpies, rooks and seagulls

cobblers123 · 01/04/2023 11:37

Two horrible crows that appear to have decimated the nest in my tree where the pigeon was nesting. I'm not sure if there were young in there or eggs but the parent birds are nowhere about and the nest seems empty.

I'm not a massive pigeon lover but I didn't have the heart to knock their joke of a nest out of the tree once they were sitting on it.

Lurkingandlearning · 01/04/2023 12:32

Saw a pair of chaffinches for the first time ever. Our usual are pigeons, doves tits blackbirds robins crows magpies. Occasionally jays woodpeckers and wrens. And lots of parakeets which I have mixed feelings about

SeeWhatYouGetWhenYouAskAStupidQuestion · 01/04/2023 12:40

Blackbirds
Collared doves
Wood pigeon
Sparrows
Robin
Starling

CockSpadget · 01/04/2023 12:47

the nesting blue tits, blackbirds, robins and wood pigeons. Next doors doves. The numerous sparrows that live in my conifer hedge. There’s been some coal tits and goldfinch on the feeders this week but not seen them yet today.

piedbeauty · 01/04/2023 12:54

Robin
Wren
Blackbird
Great tit
Blue tit
Dunnock
Pigeons (shagging)
Goldfinch

But we do feed them!

PureGrit · 01/04/2023 13:06

@LookMaAStone I get all sorts coming to my garden, but siskins are my absolute favourites. I love how they hang upside down on the feeders to get the last bits out and always patiently wait their turn…unlike their goldfinch cousins who seem unable to resist an opportunity to squabble!

Seen in my garden today -

siskins
goldfinches
a female bullfinch
great tit
coal tit
blue tit
long tailed tit (they’re nesting somewhere in my garden, which excites me no end☺️)
robin
blackbird
house sparrow
dunnock
collared dove
wren
a crow
lots and lots of jackdaws, gathering nesting materials
a tiny wren 🥰

I actually spent half an hour watching the feeders this morning, which is why the list is so long.

eurochick · 01/04/2023 13:08

My favourite visitor at the moment are the nuthatches. I love them.

AlwaysLatte · 01/04/2023 13:10

Robin
Goldfinches
Blackbirds
Pigeons
Doves
Sparrows
Chickens 😂
We sometimes get Kingfishers but I haven't seen one for a while

Milliways · 01/04/2023 13:12

Red Kites
wood pigeons
robin
blackbird
magpies
Blue tit

also we have just had 2 huge diseased trees felled so some unhappy birds out the front.
