Waiting for the olives on my tree to ripen.

@Sweetpea1532
I've just repotted peace lily (bigger internal pot)
It does seem happy in its spot.
Today I've wrestled this Passion flower into the trellis. 2 of the 3 flower / buds fell off, but they are a hardy plant. I've been after one for a while so was happy to get this at a bargain price.

@AnneKipankitoo
Thank you for the pumpkin photos...such healthy looking oranges. Gets me in the mood for Fall Smile

@AlMummy...do you eat those olives you got there? We've olive trees around but they just fall on the pavement and get smushed...I don't think anyone eats them.
@Robin233
Oh, some more pretty mauve planters.! I love how you've done your passionfruit vineSmile
And glad you've gotten a bloom on your heuchera.

AIMummy · 18/10/2021 11:43

@Sweetpea1532 tbh I don't usually bother as they've always been so tiny so I leave them for the birds but this year we've got normal size olives growing so I'm planning to pickle them for a while after harvesting them later this year. I've read they don't taste nice straight off the tree.

Sweetpea1532 · 18/10/2021 21:57

@AlMummy
Hahahalol...yes, I have first hand information on what you've read...
When I first moved to California there were olive trees everywhere so oh course, being SP, I HAD to give them a nibble because they were black and I Iove black olives. Yuck, they didn't taste like anything but a plant...I was quite disappointed as I'd thought I'd found an endless supply of one of my favourite snacks.Grin It was interesting to see the the purple stain they left after being smashed to bits.

I am still loving that mauve planters! Yoh got a good buy with them...is it 4 total?
Also which variety is your Passionfruit? It looks different to mine...I'm hoping to get another variety for something different..we've had so many fruits this year...Hahahalol I've been eating them almost every day as I've read they are good at keeping you regular Grin...I've even brought one on my holiday.

@PolytheneRam
How is your urban garden doing? And your Passionfruit vine?

Robin233 · 22/10/2021 05:39

@Sweetpea1532
That's 3 mauve planters altogether.
They are lovely and a quick spray of the hose keeps them clean and looking nice.
This is a pic of the Passion flower/fruit label.
But there many different ones I think.
So beautiful- didn't even know you could eat the fruit lol

@Robin233
No wonder you were kind of upset that the flowers had fallen off since you didn't know the fruit is edible, poor thing!
What I have found is the fruit is the main purpose of the vine, not the flowers..They only last a few days, and then the fruit will start to grow and turn from green to purple.they take quite a while to ripen. Then when the fruit will drop off when it is ready..I worked out that, at least for mine, it's a myth that the fruit is sweeter if you let it continue ripen after it's dropped until the skin is wrinkled...I've found there is no difference to the sweetness...wrinkled or not.
My vines have grown up and over my drive, making an arbor of sorts. I tied guide wires from the original stakes and fanned them out...it's nice and cool under there in the hot summer...just have to make sure you aren't standing directly under a ripened fruit or it could bonk you on the head.Grin

Or is there some further down the thread (of which I was late to)?
@applecatchers36

I've still 2 fushia going strong
Love ti see really big ones.
Neighbour has one - I maybe get a photo with permission.

Robin233 · 23/10/2021 14:03

Dh just brought me this lovely Flamingo plant - had my eye on one for a bit.
£7.00 from the local Morrisons.
Not sure if it will stay in this spot as I think it maybe too cool.
I have just had to move my narcissis Bulbs - which I set on stones in a glass varse , as they were going mouldy.
I've reduced the water and put in a warmer spot, so fingers crossed

WobblyLondoner · 23/10/2021 16:33

Hello everyone, I've not been here for a while - as always some lovely photos. All very autumnal here in London. This is my favourite flower at the moment - a gift from a neighbour. Hesperantha I'm told. Fantastic colour.

I’m not much of a gardener but I had to replace some large bushes that died in our snowstorm last year. I’m glad as it was a scrubby waste land. I hope everything survives. I’ve planted 3 trees along the middle with small purple flowers that will one day cover the electrical box. Some grasses to the back and small grasses on the front side
