@AnneKipanki yes, absolutely @StrawberryFizz26 needs some sweetpeas Grin
And STRAWBERRY, I was wrong...this is thread 5, Hmm
A clap(Wink, AK) for your little doggie!

Sweetpea1532 · 22/07/2021 01:06

@StrawberryFizz26
I am so sorry I'd forgotten that you'd posted recently!
I have to give my head a giant wobble sometimesGrin
I think my head could use another wobble now that I think I've worked out that the masonry in the photo behind the bonsai is the same size as in the photo of your little doggie ...I've been thinking that the bonsai is at least a metre tall in addition to the 40 cm 'large' pot...so very large indeed...But now I think I've worked out that the pot is actually about 15cm and the bonsai is a normal bonsai size. I was wondering how the moss from the original planter worked so well in the larger container....duh, wobble wobble

AnneKipanki · 22/07/2021 07:49

Great butterfly photo @beautyisfoundwithin. It is so difficult getting a good shot .

A dill plant we have let go to seed. I rarely use dill in cooking but just love it as an architectural plant in the herb bed. It's such a vibrant colour, almost limey! And a Nigella/love in a mist called African Bride which I'm trying for the first time. The third pic is of wild marjoram which goes bananas in the garden but I love it so let it stay! The insects love it too 🐝

Loving all your photos, especially the roses. Our roses have fared badly this year, all apart from Vanessa Bell which has been great. Ronald Dahl flowered once then stopped, no more buds that I can see, despite deadheading. And Sceptr'd Isle was beautiful but then got black spot on the leaves so I've cut her right back 🙈. I think I might have over watered the roses and also, they are surrounded by other plants which are maybe too close, lots of salvias, marjoram and lavender so not enough air circulation ☹️

Roald not Ronald 😂😂

@catwithflowers Ronald is Roald's lesser known nickname
Grin
Those herb flowers are amazing...i didn't think about how the herbs can be extra useful...they do double duty...first in the kitchen then in the garden for bees and colour...I'm going to start an herb garden! Your African Bride is so unusual...I'm sorry about your poor rosesShock
@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet thanks for sharing your gorgeous specimens....I bet your garden looks like a child's painting set has exploded...so many different colours that all meld together beautifully...and they are so healthy...even your lawn grass is spectacular...I can't remember, which continent are you on, if you don't mind me asking?
@applecatchers36
Your colours are beautiful, too..
So bright..I love cyclamen...they do very well in Calif.

Sweetpea1532 · 22/07/2021 16:52

@WobblyLondoner you made the New York Times online newspaper 2 days ago! It was an article on how Londoners have started growing oasis Gardens in the city that are hidden behind their back fences. ( Your name wasn't actually mentioned, but I knew the article was about youGrin)

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 22/07/2021 17:28

Lovely pictures. I thought cyclamen bloomed in winter!

Thank you @Sweetpea1532 I’m in Ireland, next door neighbours to most on this thread Smile

In between both of you Smile y’all Wink
The grass is so green because of all the rain we get, and the flowers are so colourful (I think) because I’ve been feeding them with tomato food this year.

Some more from today - Claire Austin, hydrangea and mums/daisies?

I find that the dreaded black spot appears on most of my roses, but the carpet roses do seem to be disease resistant

Thanks @AnneKipanki, it kept flying away every time I approached so I sat down on the floor right next to the Lavender and held my phone in position expectantly until it came back! I also took about a million shots and had to go through them all till I found one that had worked! 😆

I let a dill go to seed recently too (although I must confess it was by accident through sheer laziness!) and I know what you mean about the lime vibrancy @catwithflowers. Love that Nigella too, really unusual.

Great colours @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet! So vibrant!

I love how that white wall brings out all the colours @applecatchers36, even just the green foliage looks great with the white backdrop.

catwithflowers · 22/07/2021 17:52

@beautyisfoundwithin I've done the same with the parsley, let it go to seed as it gets huge and the sweet peas clamber through it, like a natural support. The problem is we can't even see the rosemary or sage, let alone use them, as they have been ambushed by parsley, dill and borage 😂

We are moving soon and in our next garden I'm planning on having a neat and tidy and practical herb bed to use in cooking and an additional 'wild' bed, where things are allowed to seed and climb and do their own thing 😂. The insects love it 🐝

catwithflowers · 22/07/2021 17:54

pop. I love your rose 🌹

Sweetpea1532 · 22/07/2021 19:01

@catwithflowers
Oh no on your future move! Will you be able to dig up some of your flowers and plants? Or are you ready to just start afresh?

Sweetpea1532 · 22/07/2021 19:02

@beautyisfoundwithin
Wasn't it you who said you have a gardening dress?😂

WobblyLondoner · 22/07/2021 19:13

Evening all.
@Sweetpea1532 Smile - assume you meant this article? www.nytimes.com/2021/07/19/t-magazine/how-to-garden-backyard.html

All I can say is I wish! Much more space and much more expertly designed than mine!

Fantastic photos all - love the dill and marjoram in particular. Those lucky bees.

My two photos - Astrantias have been a real star this year, I think helped by such a wet spring. And the crocosmia is coming into bud. I just love the intricacy of the flowers even through the leaves flop around very annoyingly (there is a path next to them somewhere!)

It was me indeed @Sweetpea1532! It was after you shared a photo of you in your gardening dress! If I remember rightly you were attempting some especially precarious gardening perched on a slope like a mountain goat! 😂
