Just a little fourward planning . We are all looking forward to another thread of fabulous pictures. It can be a quiet time but I am sure some of us will have autumnal colours to share . The trees are starting to turn here . I have just picked an allium from my photo collection to start the thread off .
You are very welcome to finish or visit the old thread . I do not know how to do ... this is the old thread here thing .

I have so much Rose envy right now!

My basil plants keep trying to flower, and this one got away from me, but where the others are white and insignificant this is rather marvellous! It is Red Robin basil and currently covered in these beauties.

@BewareTheBeardedDragon That is so lovely!

It's been funny weather here in the north east, an autumnal chill in the morning followed by some lovely sunny days. Lots of things which would usually be dying off are coming back into flower. Here is a pretty little salvia and Erigeron Karvinskianus or Mexican fleabane which I just love. It's the first time I've planted it and it's sown itself into so many little nooks and crannies. Next year I'm going to plant up a strawberry pot and have this in it 😊

Lots of Rose envy here too! Beautiful flower on that basil @BewareTheBeardedDragon!

Love the Mexican Fleabane @catwithflowers! I have a stone wall I'd like to add some prettiness to, and I think from a quick Google this might work nicely 😊

That's a striking Clematis @AnneKipanki, lovely.

It's a lovely sunny day here today so I'll share some splashes of colour looking cheerful in the sunshine ☀️ Hope the sun is shining for everyone else!

Lovely, beautiful colours, for your stone wall, heathers do well.

Is anyone feeling a wee bit sad that the good weather will come to an end and goodbye to many of our lovely flowers 😕

beautyisfoundwithin · 20/09/2020 19:10

Gorgeous @AnneKipanki & @Rookiegardener.

Thanks for the tip @SBTLove, will look into that. And yes, I've been feeling very much like that today! Saw a sprinkling of brown leaves from one of my trees on the lawn and thought oh no, not yet!

catwithflowers · 20/09/2020 19:16

@AnneKipanki and @SBTLove. I know what you mean. BUT ..... I do love the changing seasons. It's one of the reasons I love this country so much 😊. Soon it will be time for candles and log fires and planting bulbs which will be so lovely next spring. I'm looking forward to the beautiful dogwood with its red stems and to waking up to crisp mornings.

I think autumn and winter bring their own kind of beauty. And wouldn't it be dull if every season was the same? ❤️

catwithflowers · 20/09/2020 19:17

Sorry, that reply should have also been to Beauty. 🍁

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 20/09/2020 19:31

Wow, so many beautiful pictures.
Yes, mixed feelings about the season changing...
@catwithflowers I've already planted my spring bulbs. Was I not supposed to? Blush

catwithflowers · 20/09/2020 20:31

Always Mine have just arrived today so I'll be planting them this week. 😊.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 20/09/2020 20:49

Great @catwithflowers
Looking forward to spring pictures ☺️

beautyisfoundwithin · 20/09/2020 20:52

Mixed feelings is definitely the right description! It's strange because I am sad about the end of summer but I do also love the different seasons. I love the candles and our wood burner, the spectacular colours in autumn, and the snowy mountain scenery in winter. It just feels like summer seems to have disappeared more quickly somehow this year...

beautyisfoundwithin · 20/09/2020 21:29

Actually, speaking of spring bulbs... last year I found an amazing deal on Tulips (my absolute favourite) so I planted LOADS in a new bed that I made for them. They flowered this year and I was really happy with them, and thought they'd come back there every year. But then a friend said I should only have planted them in pots as in the ground they'll naturally bury themselves lower and lower and then they'll be too deep to flower. Is that true?

ALLIS0N · 20/09/2020 22:51

I’m enjoying all these lovely photos. Here’s some of mine

@beautyisfoundwithin I'm not a tulip expert, but I do have some in ground tulips which have flowered every spring I've lived here (3 years now), and my parents have some which were there when they moved in and have flowered every year for 30+ yrs.
My understanding was that some types are perennial and keep coming back, and some aren't and need to be renewed every year.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 21/09/2020 06:55

Quick bit of research - this article suggests that they do bury themselves but only to the correct depth and then they stop, and it is a function that protects and prolongs their flowering life rather than the other way around (which makes sense, evolution and all that) Grin

Rookiegardener · 21/09/2020 06:59

I too feel sad about the summer coming to an end. I love all the seasons but I HATE British daylight hours in the autumn and winter. If only the sun would set a couple hours later at least!

Re the tulips I agree with @BewareTheBeardedDragon. My family home has had tulips year after year since I was a child (many moons ago). They reflower every spring.

beautyisfoundwithin · 21/09/2020 16:35

Lovely @ALLIS0N.

Thank you @BewareTheBeardedDragon & @Rookiegardener. That's what I had thought, but then my friend was so insistent that I must dig them all up IMMEDIATELY or lose them all that I got a bit concerned! 😆
