Lovely critters. Great rose pics showing the advantages of the long flowering season for roses

This thread is amazing! I only just found it. I'm in awe of all those beautiful roses.

It's our second full year in this garden. It was almost all concrete when we arrived so we're slowly digging up the slabs and planting. It turns out to be right sun trap and we've got chillis, courgettes, calamondin oranges, olives, tomatoes, raspberries and grapes. Only a handful of each, but it's a good start! We have a very vigorous old fashioned rambler that does well but it doesn't flower for long. It's actually too hot for most other flowers besides sunflowers, pelargoniums, roses and unexpectedly a bougainvillea that somehow survived the winter. I might try lettuce in November because it's hopelessly wilted the rest of the year.

My flowers are almost gone so I thought I'd show you all some photos that my DH shot of my gardening in progress...I always make a gigantic mess like a tornado has blown over but then I pull it together in the end, much to the relief of my NDN. And yes, that's my gardening dress Grin

AnneKipanki · 03/09/2020 07:32

Lovely dress !
I wear a boiler suit and muckboots.

Interesting hidy hole.

Great to see yours still going strong @Noflora

Nothing new here. It's lovely to see the beginning of autumnal colour on the trees

@AnneKipanki @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet
Glad you like my gardening attire!
I have a swimming costume dress, alsoGrin
Btw, that hidy hole is actually the storm drain from the street up above our hill. It just occurred to me how lucky I was that nobody was draining their swimming pool up there at the time! Never know when a flash flood is going through....or else I could have been flushed down to the Pacific Ocean😂

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 04/09/2020 11:04

This morning - Harlow Carr and Winchester Cathedral

That is a mesmerising Clematis ❤️
@RightioMalbec

Once again I've missed so much since I last looked! More beautiful pictures as always 😍

I'm also feeling the end of summer mood unfortunately, and I'm not ready for it to be over yet! 😤

Too many stunning roses to mention, I love seeing them all, especially as I don't have many myself. They really are gorgeous.

Also love all of the clearance rejects that are flourishing! I'm always happy to see something end up so lovely instead of being thrown in the bin!

Pretty gardening dress @Sweetpea1532, I can also relate to your method of gardening - I'm exactly the same! 😂 It always works out in the end though, right?

I haven't got anything really new going on, lots still flowering which is great, but not really anything different to what I've posted before!

I'll add my last Lily that's just opening, a Dahlia that ends up very full and ruffled but also looks pretty before it's fully open, and my Buddleia that's coming to an end but still teeming with Butterflies.

That is a lot of butterflies . We did not have many on ours this year . I think it needs the heat. The weather has not been that warm where I am.

Wow, that truly is a butterfly bush! 🦋 Lucky you!

sweetpea the dress pic looks very vintage (in a good way)!

My Aldi dahlia has come back with a fab show after going quiet for a bit, weirdly slightly differently coloured second flowering.

Lol, I'm thrilled that you lot appreciate my gardening dress...a tkmaxx £15 special. I just pop it the washer and it is good to go ...no ironing necessary. Wouldn't be caught dead in a wrinkled gardening dress!
I am really enjoying everyones beautiful flowers...thank you for taking the time to post the photos. And @AnneKipanki , you are a genius for uniting flower gardeners around the world! Thank you! What a brill idea!SmileFlowers

Your flowers are gorgeous... those butterflies are amazing! Glad to know there are at least 2 of us from the tornado school of gardening...it surprises everybody when we finally pull it all together, doesn't it? Maybe you should try a gardening dress, too.Grin

That tree looks really alien! Very cool though.

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet I'm British Dutch. Gardening in the low countries had turned out to be significantly less swampy than I expected. I'm far more worried about water shortages and everything getting cooked in the sun!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 05/09/2020 12:29

Well it seemed like an obvious thing to do, on a gardening forum.

Here's ''Claire'' today. She's 'exceptionally healthy' (according to her tag) Grin

Is it an acer griseum *@NeedToKnow101* ?
@AnneKipanki - it's not mine, it's my favourite tree I see on my walk. I think it's called a strawberry birch tree but I'm not sure. It's beautiful.
