Beautiful roses @Rookiegardener
And that's so true, I love how they bounce back so vigorously Smile

Here's a new bloom on Winchester Cathedral today. I love the little pink stripe.

Thanks always. The rose is beautiful. There's just something about a white rose against its green foliage.. as stunning as roses are in all their colours, I just love white roses. Something timeless about them

Rookiegardener · 22/08/2020 15:18

Newest addition.. it's already lured 3 dragonflies to the garden.

Well spotted @popgoesperfection! I would definitely recommend an egg chair!

Lovely @Rookiegardener, your pictures certainly don't match your username! Love your new addition too. I'm based in Southern Germany, in the Bavarian Alps. Very close to the border with Austria - Salzburg is ca. 30 minutes away. I'm right in the mountains, in the 1st photo I uploaded the other day you might have spotted one of the mountains there in the background! It really is extremely beautiful, I'm very fortunate.

Gorgeous @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet, I love the little pink stripe too.

And I agree with what you said yesterday too @AnneKipanki, I would also like to thank everyone on the thread for all of the wonderful posts.

That Winchester Cathedral.... augh, another rose on the wishlist. Rookie, your pictures are beautiful and the water feature is perfect. I need a white alstroemeria.

A lot of new things are blooming this week for me (to make up for the things lost to the wind). My sunflower is finally opening! Very hard to photograph as it is eight foot tall. Also, a white double Chaters hollyhock is blooming, even though I sowed the seed earlier this summer and I wasn't expecting blooms till next year. Also, because I dont have a hydrangea, here is a pink sedum, which is my cheapo cut rate imitation.Wink

I've missed quite a few pics Flowers lovely stuff! I lost all my sunflowers in the windy weather this week, but the plus side is we have much more room on the patio now... I've also got a lot of green tomatoes that I'm trying to ripen off indoors as they didnt like the wind either... Wink

Thanks @beautyisfoundwithin. I immediately thought of Austria so I guess I wasn't too far off . Picturesque comes to mind.

@RaptorInaPorkPieHat love the pot arrangement. Beautiful pictures. What is the pink flower? A dahlia?

Slightly different today.. I have a new flower but it is a pea flower Smile. My first year growing veg and I'm so happy to see signs of life

I need to work out what I need to cut back now and what I need to leave well alone. The storms have done for a lot of the taller things. My roses have loads of new buds on them so hoping for more roses before the runner is totally gone. The only new flower I have is this, not sure what it is but it's gorgeous.

Hollyhock ?

Beebumble2 · 25/08/2020 08:25

Lovely double Hollyhocks dita. I have little success growing them, but one has flowered and self sown in my gravel path, in all the wrong places. Enjoy yours, I hope it gives you seedlings.

DDemelza · 25/08/2020 11:05

Lucky you, with your gorgeous pink hollyhock! 😍 Mine that have come out (from a Chaters double mixed seed packet) are white and yellow.

I quite like the way barely opened osteosperma look in this foul rainy wind- a bit like tulips.

And this little green insect has been sheltering in my sunflower for at least an hour.

@Rookiegardener Thanks, yes it is a dahlia Smile I've been really pleased with the colours this year, so I'm going to have to make an attempt to dry them out and overwinter them in the shed.

Lovely peas, I'm not much of a veg gardener so I don't stray much from tomatoes Smile

DrWAnker · 25/08/2020 21:53

@DDemelza
My brother brought me the same osteosperma, thanks for reminding me of the name, and it has grown into a monster!
It was fairly small and when it finished flowering I repotted and started again. Now it just keeps on and has different shades of purple flowers, some like yours and some more lilac.
Lovethe dahlia and the frilly hollyhock 😍

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 26/08/2020 10:05

Soo many amazing pics 😍, just catching up.

@beautyisfoundwithin your garden is to die for
@Oldraver buddleia is aptly named - it is sumptuously creamy
@Rookiegardener love that water feature
@DDemelza your double fuchsia looks somewhat lascivious (in a good way)
@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet sorry to hear about your storm damage. We've not had a storm but very high winds and I'm on a hillside so I've lost my huge sunflower. I had to cut it down because it was bending almost fully over and levering other plants out by doing so. Sad

But on the plus side I picked and we ate the first corn this weekend, my stridolo plants - which are a herb and I planted for culinary purpose, turn out to have sweet bubbly little flowers, and the Japanese anemone is still going strong.

Sorry to hear about you sunflower @BewareTheBeardedDragon.

What's a stridolo? I've never heard of that herb. What dishes do you use it in?

I went to survey the damage this morning (totally forgot I have potted plants and casually went out to water the veg). My dahlia was half way across the garden BlushShock. My shrubs were also blown away. They've been given some water and I hope they recover ok. My roses were squashed by our garden chair which also decided to do a tour of the garden Confused.

DDemelza · 26/08/2020 16:32

Mourning for your sunflower, @BewareTheBeardedDragon - and sorry about your pots, @Rookiegardener. That storm was vicious- my lavatera came off badly, and four cosmos were wholly uprooted. On the bright side they were not the two cosmos plants which have deigned to flower!

New clematis piluu has new flowers and is popular with the bees; the first of the autumn viola plugs has bloomed a fetching burgundy; the cornflowers keep coming!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet, Beware, Rookie, and DD, so sad to hear of the casualties you all have had! I was very concerned for all when I saw the weather reports. I'm glad to hear that all wasn't lost.
@BewareTheBeardedDragon....your corn looks amazing..yum!

DDemelza · 26/08/2020 17:26

Thanks. Yes, that corn upthread makes me want to eat my phone screen!

DrWAnker · 27/08/2020 15:18

The osteosperma and some antirrhinum we grew from seed finally flowering!

It does feel like the end of summer, sadly. Some nice colour still in the pics from everybody. I think I might do sunflowers next year they are so jolly. Something appealing about daisy-shaped flowes and at the other end of the size scale osteospernum look lovely.

Roses do have a long flowering period, one good reason to have them, still going strong here
