Lovely colour, Anne. We are having a sudden rose frenzy in our garden too. Roses we thought had finished for the year are suddenly sporting another dozen buds. It's all very exciting!!

AnneKipanki · 20/08/2020 07:24

Thanks @catwithflowers . It is a deeper red but getting the colour on a photo is difficult.

More roses blooming. Lavender is dying and penstemons seem to be flowering again. Anyone know if you're meant to deadhead penstemons and cut lavender back?

I don't know about penstemons, sorry, but I do deadhead everything possible!

Some potatoes we harvested today.

Phenomenal garden, beauty. Love the island of flowers mid-lawn, and the adorable bird table

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/08/2020 16:01

Lovely photos.
My Buddleia is already gone. I'd imagine it was all the rain.

Here are 3 of mine today. Echinacea, Winchester Cathedral, hebe

Thank you 😊 It really is my little slice of heaven, I spend every spare minute I can out in the garden.

Although I may have been a little bit sneaky keeping the messy areas of the garden out of the photos! 😉

The island in the middle is actually a new addition, I wanted a new area for a collection of pots, inspired by so many lovely ones on this thread! It's not quite finished yet so I haven't taken any photos of it by itself.

Lovely photos @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet, lots of beautiful butterflies! Hebe and Echinacea are on my list of 'must haves' for next year - again, thanks to this thread! I must admit the list is quite long though! Blush

AnneKipanki · 21/08/2020 17:18

Those are great @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet . I have found it really hard getting butterflies
in a photo this year . They have not stopped for long this year .

I try and just photograph the nice bits too@beautyisfoundwithin .

I love this thread.
A big thank you to everyone for posting their photos and advice.❤️

@beautyisfoundwithin your garden is spectacular, and I can just spy a egg chair hiding in the bushes with my name written all over it 😀
Wow look at them gorgeous butterflies @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet great pics!! I agree @AnneKipanki I too have struggled to get a picture, every time I run for my phone as soon as I click the camera on, they're gone 🙈

DDemelza · 21/08/2020 21:54

A fuchsia, a salvia Victoria Blue finally deciding to bloom, and my new clematis Piilu, which I was going to plant out today.. but the wind!

It is a truly lovely thread, @AnneKipanki - thank you very much for it. It's very inspiring seeing the love that you all lavish on your plants.

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet that Winchester Cathedral rose is absolutely stunning. How does it hold up in the wind and rain? I would love a white rose but am bewildered by the choice. My nana had a garden full of icebergs, I think.

DulciUke · 21/08/2020 22:40

My lone clematis flower. Japanese beetles decimated my roses this year🙁

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 22/08/2020 08:25

Funny you should ask that @DDemelza because when I took those pictures yesterday, I was out inspecting the garden after one of the worst storms we've ever had here. Some of the taller stemmed roses were damaged, but Winchester Cathedral is perfect. It has lots of buds and looks like it should be in full bloom this week. I'll post a picture of it then.

You have a beautiful garden @beautyisfoundwithin
Hebes are a good choice because they are evergreen. I don't have enough evergreens in my garden. Too many summer flowers and bare in winter !

Rookiegardener · 22/08/2020 12:01

Nothing new here. Roses are in full bloom now and my Peruvian lilies have quadrupled in size the last few weeks. Still can't believe the roses made a come back from being practically dead- they give me the most joy to look at because of this.

I love your garden @beautyisfoundwithin. I love the surrounding area too. I want to be nosey and ask where you're based Blush. It looks serene.

@DDemelza that clematis is stunning. If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't even know that that is. It's on my list for next year!
