So I googled it and he's it's crocrosmia - another mystery solved! We bought our house with a beautiful garden and trying to keep it up and maintain it and I'd love to know all the different plants that are flowering.

DDemelza · 26/07/2020 16:06

Lucky you. I am sure you will do a lovely job!

The sun has come out and the osteos are deigning to show their finicky faces.Hmm

So many beautiful pictures.
Anne I love your begonias in that ground structure. Wouldn't tulips look fab in something like that, in spring?

''Tranquility' has completely opened up today, and it's stunning Shock

I love your LIDL Hydrangea @Mamia15
Here is my Aldi one Smile

My echinaceas are just about to bloom. They are one of my favourite flowers. Although they were on Gardeners' World on Friday night, and Monty said that they usually only last for 3 years. I planted a lot of them last year thinking that they would last forever 🤦‍♀️

Lovely Roses right by your door @AnneKipanki 🌹

Stunning photo @catwithflowers!!

What a beautiful bright Hydrangea @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet!

catwithflowers · 26/07/2020 17:57

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet my heart also sank a little when Monty said that about the echinacea. I'm sowing loads of echinacea white swan in the autumn and hoped they would last many more seasons (if they grow at all!)

Out of interest, I pronounce echinacea very differently to Monty! Ek-in-ay-sha. Am I saying it wrong? 😂

TeddyGizmo · 26/07/2020 18:09

Our garden is very scrappy, house is rented so can't do any landscaping. Husband sews sunflower seeds every year that he has kept from the previous year.

I've forgotten which way Monty pronounced it. I was too busy despairing at what he was saying 😂

I say it a little differently to you. I say etch in a Kay ah. (Although the t is silent, so I'm not sure why I've included it 😂) I say it that way because I was looking at them in a garden centre last year and a man asked me 'Do you like etch in a Kay ah'? I had no idea how to pronounce it until he said that. So who knows who's right. 😂

AnneKipanki · 26/07/2020 18:22

Beautiful sunflowers @TeddyGizmo !
I thought it was eck in ay sha.
However I do mispronunciations 😂

catwithflowers · 26/07/2020 18:23

I'm going to have to watch that bit again to see how he pronounces it 😅

AnneKipanki · 26/07/2020 18:26

Can we put it into google?

catwithflowers · 26/07/2020 18:29

Just watched the clip again. Monty says ek-in-ay-see. With an emphasis on the third syllable!! Well ...... 😅

Anne I did that yesterday and it came up with the way I pronounce it. But surely the lovely Monty can't be wrong? 😍

Seems to be hard k sound as in echo.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/07/2020 19:12

I checked my book Grin
And no, it offers no explanation for Monty's pronunciation of 'Echinacea' 😂

I notice that Monty pronounces lots of plants differently to how I say it, I presume it wrong, surely Monty can't be !?! Haha 💁🏻‍♀️

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/07/2020 19:38

We'll put it down to the various regional dialects Grin I refuse to believe that Monty could possibly be wrong Grin

AnneKipanki · 26/07/2020 19:53

Maybe that is how he remembered to spell it .

OP posts:
AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/07/2020 20:07

@AnneKipanki 😂
Yes, of course... when he was typing his book. I think we have our most likely explanation Grin

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 26/07/2020 20:24

@Elladisenchanted your second set yellow flower (middle pic) is evening primrose - hope I didn't miss someone else naming it!

Couple of pics from earlier today.
